This song takes me back to my University years. Riding in the car with Kate, singing at the top of our lungs. Young, free, full of life and love. I miss you Kate. RIP...
Listening to this makes me remember that once not too long ago bands made music without a thought as to how marketable their work was to radio airtime. Art(music)for it's own sake. Thanks Despondent I'm a little less so after listening to this.
Smashing Pumpkins made music that spoke to my soul more than any other music in my lifetime. When I hear it it takes me back to some of my most influential memories. Very sentimental to me.
I was 17-18-19 when the early grunge stuff took over in 92-94, and I always loved Billy's guitar sound and style the most. What an amazing few years to be a teenager. I listened to this for the first time in a few years today and even teared up in the into for a moment. This music is so deep inside me all these years later. Even if I walk away from it for many years. After 25+ years, in an instant, I am 17 again. There is a line in John Mellencamp's Jack and Diane when he says "after the thrill of living is gone". Though we move on, we never feel the thrill of life like we do when we are 16-19. Then I hear this again and instantly, I REMEMBER HOW I FELT AND WHO I WAS.
I was 10 when siamese dream came out but it's still my favorite album of all time. Just wish Billy didn't lose his passion. I'm still gonna see them on tour this summer but the new stuff is meh and they're riding on the nostalgia feels without trying it seems.
Thank you for posting this non-crap version! This is the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard... My mom had a stoke on Christmas Day of '92 and this was the first song on a tape my sister had made me for Christmas.
This song is perfect in every way. IMHO, the best Smashing Pumpkins song out of their outstanding catalogue and one of the best songs of the 90s. Utter genius, from the first solo with those amazing notes sliding in opposite directions all the way to the feedback solo. I could hear this song a million times.
DG, tyvm for being the only one on YT BRAVE enough to bring us the pure, uncut, unrefined mojo-goodness that is "the Drown feedback solo", you have my gratitude.
It is a miracle in the history of rock and roll that this song was made, enjoyed, and then even played (full and unedited) on the radio. Speaks to not only a different time period in music, but to a different type of listener.
Thank you for posting the full version. This was the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard. My sister made me a tape for Christmas of 1992. My mother had a stroke the very night and it was all I could do at the time to play it.
whenever i doubt how good Smashing Pumpkins were, I listen to drown and remember just why they are my favorite band. No other musicians in the world have ever created a song that sounded just so perfect.
I fucking love this song!! I used to play this on jukeboxes in bars!! The feedback at the end makes this song. I miss the 90s!! It was the best years of my life!!
my favorite tune by these cats. The reverb and feedback destroy me. I met Billy one time, he was cool. He has a giant birthmark on his arm/hand. That is all.
"here comes the best feedback solo ever" goddamn right it is ^^ in rotten apple drown got this feedback cut into fade out...now that just SUCK!!! Drown is all about the feedback if you cut that there's no point listening to it !!! thanks for uploading man...appreciated it :)
i chanced upon Singles on HBO (again, for the nth time, and i dont mind) and this is the song that keeps sticking in my head. thanks for posting the full version. i agree with the explosion of emotion and stuff. I feel like Linda in the movie when she said, i get different kinds of emotions every five seconds....or something like that =)
I was just a kid in the 90's but I had an older brother and he loved Smashing Pumpkins as well as many other bands from that era so i got exposed to good music early. Now everything that's popular just sucks. I'm in the third decade of my life and of all 22 years, the 90's will always be the best. Maybe one day good music will replace the generic "have somebody write my lyrics and I'll auto-tune my voice to them" that plays on the radio. Until then, thank you 90's!!
This is the first song I heard of the pumpkins,by chance,6 years ago. Ever since I'm in love with the Smashing Pumpkins. And I'll never understand how someone can dislike them.I can get that for any other band, but the pumpkins?? That's nuts to me.
He used a little handy thing called an e-bow in correlation with fx and feedback. It's a cool toy, worth a look for guitar players who dig control over sustained sounds. :) I've got one, super fun!
they used to play this song on the radio in the 90's. one of my favorite of all time as well. probably thee favorite from the pumpkins....maybe...probably:)
I remember hearing this band for the first time after moving to SC from the Northwest. I told my gf who worked at a radio station that this was going to change music forever. At the time Poison and Damn Yankee's were making it big and the "NEW" band was the Black Crows. Nirvana might have put grunge on the map, But Smashing Pumpkins gave the Alternative namesake a place to call home. They were our generations WHO. Love everything about them.
@cglawrence I remember the first time I saw these guys was at Lollapalooza '94 here in Vancouver. Some guy in one of my classes in highschool was ranting about this band on the radio in the days leading up to the concert. My jaw was on the floor the whole time! The light show combined with the music, the beer and the pot! The were my favorite band for the next for 4 years (until Adore). It was songs like this that made them one of the best rock bands of my generation.
@SimplyRawToby Like you, I used to play this on the jukebox in the pub I frequented back in 1992. They had the Singles soundtrack on it, but I don't think they expected anyone to play this track. I love this song from start to finish, but to see the looks on people's faces during the feedback solo was a bonus.
its up beat, but its gives u that feeling, that u want to cry, cause u have never experianced something so good. and u just want to be sad. just because the world we live in, everything is supposed to make u happy, and u finally hear something as good as this. and u just want to cry, cause u feel so good, but u cant express it in any other way.
@jgbuckley Jimmy is actually a jazz drummer who wound up in a rock band. But, you are right, without him SP could not rock nearly as hard. I have some of their early stuff when there was no Jimmy and just a drum machine. He transformed the sound of the band and gave it attitude. He is the bite behind Corgan's snarl.
i had a studio tape years ago all i knew about it was that it was a copy of something that hadbt been released - must hav ebeen the singles sountrack - missed this stune a lot since the tape wore out- never knew who it was by and thought the solo was a different tune altogether ! JOY

I'm 44 and this brings so much emotion. The things I struggled with as an adolescent were painful but having this song really soothed my soul.

Amen Lady ... Born in 1980 But I grew up in the 90s...This music defined our generation.
Listening to Smashing Pumpkins had a way of accessing untapped energy reserves for weekend bicycling work out tours.
Thank you for posting this non-crap version! This is the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard... My mom had a stoke on Christmas Day of '92 and this was the first song on a tape my sister had made me for Christmas.
another one of the many many gems from 90s music the best decade in music
Anita Whiting Absolutely!! Lived it and still love it! 🌞🌙🌟🌜🌕🌙

The feedback solo is beyond amazing. What a piece of art and expression, it makes me shiver, so good.
Google ebow.. that little machine creates that beautiful soundscape whilst used on an electric guitars pickup :)
Love the full version. Billy's feedback and delay is really beautiful and mesmerizing. Pure epic.
It is a miracle in the history of rock and roll that this song was made, enjoyed, and then even played (full and unedited) on the radio. Speaks to not only a different time period in music, but to a different type of listener.
So much of the Pumpkins music is like pure nostalgia transformed into sound. One of the greatest bands of all time without a doubt.
Thank you for posting the full version. This was the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard. My sister made me a tape for Christmas of 1992. My mother had a stroke the very night and it was all I could do at the time to play it.

Jimmy's drumming on this always makes me swoon with joy. What a brilliant song.
my favorite tune by these cats. The reverb and feedback destroy me. I met Billy one time, he was cool. He has a giant birthmark on his arm/hand. That is all.

This song blew me away the first time I heard it. It just blew me away again nearly 30 years later.
"No matter where you are
I can still hear you when you drown"...
This one's for you Chris Cornell! You will be missed! RIP 🌟 gazer!!! 🌌🌞🌙🌟

Im sure im not the only one who thinks Smashing Pumpkins is a freakin awesome name for a band.
I was just a kid in the 90's but I had an older brother and he loved Smashing Pumpkins as well as many other bands from that era so i got exposed to good music early.
