The Thousand-pierced Bear skin is canon. That's basically what "The Volibear" looks like whenever the Ursine calls for him, while his "normal" form is for when he just walks about in the Freljord.
correct, this was originally planned to be Volibear's new design but they decided to make it into a skin which is really clever
why is that skin canon? I personally think his basic skin fits his character better

Since u were wondering about Ornn, remember that he was forging a weapon in the call cinematic? Yes he didnt do much for a long time but he started working again which is taken as a sign for well... shits about to go down.
Also Im pretty sure Volibear doesnt care about the people of the Freljord(because u keept saying that what he wants might not be best for them).
He cares about the Freljord itself, the land and everything in it but only as long as its wild and untamed.
so thats why he wants bristle to eat sejuani's heart
so a little context on the zilean voice line. back in the day riot zilean the dev hated the idea of an armored bear as a champion and was always against it. so back then zilean would do 1 extra damage and have the buff armored bear hater when he was on the opposing team as voli. its something that has always stuck around
Orrn and Volibear are an interesting pair of brothers, it seems as if they were always fated to be enemies.
On a personal level, as you will read in Ornn's Bio, Volibear killed all of Ornn's followers, who Ornn cared for deeply.
However, on a fundamental level, the brothers were always fated to be enemies due to their very nature. Volibear represents the wild and untamed of the Freljord, from the land to all who inhabit it, both in all their natural beauty and savagery. He calls for his followers to live like beasts, no homes, no farms, no tools, nothing but them and the land. Whether weak or strong, Volibear does not care for his followers but rather what they do and how they follow his teachings. Ornn is the God of the Forge, which doesn't seem like Volibear's antithesis, yet what are forges used for? They are used to make tools, make homes, change man from beast to humans, with homes, farms, tools and weapons used to tame the land. Ornn's followers built a village devoted to reach the mastery of their craft, master of the practical and the artistic. Ornn personally looked over every single creation his followers brought him and praised the best among them, but didn't disparage the worst either.
(On a side note, please react to Sylas when you can. He represents perhaps the largest shakeup of League lore in the roster and is one of the most complex villain's of the cast. I would recommend the Just Another Nobody's voice line video.)
Some curiosity:
-The song he is singing is his own theme
-Volibear true name is unknow even for lore nerds(like me) because, in runeterra, if you know a spirit name you can use his power.
-The interaction with Zilean is because the old volibear had the story crossed with him, before the remake: Voly was not a god but a bearursa, a race of humanoid-bears in runeterra and Zilean was racist with that race. Now is just an easteregg.
-"Vol kau fera" means "cower before me".
-The Thousand-Pierced Bear is his real form.
-The first theme to have lyrics is Diana's.
I suggest to do Ornn next, than the three sisters, starting with Lissandra.
To clarify, Zilean the character was not racist, Zilean the developer (whom the character was named after) hated the idea of bringing an armored bear champion into League so it became a joke reference in-game.
Also, Thousand pierced bear is simply A FORM he takes for certain people, primarily the ursine for their twisted perception of Volibear/
The Thousand Pierced Bear is A FORM of him, as a god Volibear looks the way his believers thinks he does, there's a sect that sees him that way, which channels his more animalistic traits. But there is no "true" form.
To add to the topic of his "true" form, his Runeguard Armor skin is also one of his "true" forms.
It's his oldest form from when he was still wearing his brother's armour before they had a falling out.
Kind of how Miss Fortune canonically looks like the "Captain Fortune" skin.
While her basic skin is how she looked in the past before overthrowing Gankplank during the burning tides.
Pretty sure his name is Valhir
Something to note is that the bridge he slammed at the end (The Location for the Howling abyss game mode) was made by Ornn and is almost indestructible according to the myths. It is considered "almost" indestructible because Lissandra cast some magic to trap the watchers beneath it but most of Ornn's creations are made without magic and Ornn himself doesn't like magic much either
the "spirit walker" in Stormbringer is actually Udyr, spirit walker is like his little nickname every league champ has, like Ekko, the boy who shattered time for example

57:13 Context ~ There is a game mode in league where its just that bridge. The bridge was built by ornn, and the teaser for volibear's rework was him walking up to the bridge and giving it a good thumping, trying to destroy it.
This knocked everyone on the map up, was quite a meme.
Fun fact: Volibear, Ornn, and Anivia has two more Demi-God siblings the Iron Boar and the Seal Sister!

Ok, I said it before and I don't know if you saw it, but you HAVE to react to Sylas. He is honestly one of the best character lore-wise in the game.
When you are doing Lissandra, i recommend listening to her old speech on howling abyss. It is old lore but still very cool.

Also, You should definitely follow this up with Ornn. His lore, theme and voice lines are just fantastic. It definitely leans more into the nordic mythology feel of it all. (PS: Definitely react to his teaser song with translation in conjunction with his login theme, cause his Teaser song is what the people of Frejlord sing about him, it is so fucking good)
Great video as always, Im glad that you’ve used skinspotlight video this time. Reactions to his brothers death etc is quite important to understand this character I think. However, the spell sounds etc are kind of repetitive, good thing you edited them out. Looking forward to see urgot as well.😀
I really love your videos !! i think the Skin spotlight videos are better for voicelines because you can see to who or when the champion is saying the lines and you get a better feel for the relationship. But again a great video.

When it comes to themes, champion designs, voicelines, and stories Freljord has some of the best there is to offer. The region is perfect for a fantasy setting
You should as well react to Vel’Koz lore and his quotes! He explains by his lore really about what the Void is and the Watchers, it is soooo interesting!

Most of my absolute favorite champions hail from the Freljord. Orrn is definitely atop the list, but also Nunu and Willump are excellent. Definitely check them out, perhaps after a specific Lissandra episode to learn about the Three Sisters.

Volibear and Ornn are my fav champions with themes, but Volibear is special, because of Einar Selvik himself gave that Skald vibe to the theme.

Udyr’s rework was released on Wednesday, in said rework his forms were changed, he now has a stance for the Volibear, the Iron Boar, Ornn and Anivia.

The themes for Volibear, Ornn, Aphelios, Jinx, and Vi all have sung lyrics. Gwens has singing, though no actual lyrics. I can't think of any others offhand though.
My favorite thing, as a bitter adult, is just absorbing the energy of a geek geeking out about the thing they are geeky about. It's so pure and wonderful no matter what it is. Liked!

Also, the song that he's humming in game is his actual theme in the game, it's kinda hard to notice since with the instruments is super epic

About the sky bit notice how he almost never says THE sky he just says sky, I enter sky, sky calls to me, etc that agian makes it sound like a being like the name of someone

He is not necessarily about war but more about the strive to survive the savageness of the land. The Freljord is all about survival through strength, you dying is because you are weak but your attempt to survive is respected

Volibear and his siblings are sprit gods basically just a very powerful spirit embodies culture beliefs, hench call 'demi-god'
This guy very much fits with the D&D god of blizzards and cannibals in my group's setting, Tyrwulf. He despises civilization and peace, and his followers are dreaded for raiding settlements and taking both possessions and people. He was once wed to Tarkan'Nala, the Mother of Monsters, but her father, Rohagru, caught him preparing to devour her in her sleep in attempt to claim her power over wild beasts.
Not a good idea to piss off a god known as the Weeping Ruin, the Blood-Boiler, and Destruction Incarnate. Rohagru slammed Tyrwulf into a mountain so hard that the blizzard god's legs got trapped in a magma chamber, charring down to the bone. This fate is reflected in his truest children, the wendigo.
He's well known for his hatred of Imrash, the goddess of fire, hardship, and forgiveness. When her greatest prophet, Lazureus, embarked on a mission to proselytize to the smilodeans, Tyrwulf appeared in person, slaughtered his companions, and trapped him in a cave with an avalanche, gloating as the prophet wrote a final letter to Imrash and her church before succumbing to the cold. He will still try to goad Imrash into striking him by mocking the fate of her prophet, recalling the taste of his frozen flesh.
More light-hearted is his constant struggle with Balthus, the kindly god of the frost giants. Every year, at the beginning of winter, Balthus manages to bury Tyrwulf in a snowbank, ensuring that the first thirteen days of the season will be mild and peaceful. The Ides of Balthus are essentially the world's equivalent of Christmas.

Recently, there's a story about Sejuani where The Winter's Claw are desperately in need of food bec the harsh winter is coming, after their failed hunt, she was told that only The Cauldron of Ornn could fill the stomachs of the starving and warm them for the rest of the winter. A blood red light was seen within the mountains so Sejuani and her tribe investigated, it was later revealed that the cauldron was stolen by the Ursine, Volibear's followers, and are living in that said mountain leading to the events in The Call cinematic. Before this, she also met Udyr and had a glimpse of Volibear's true form, the white bear we all see and knew is what we believe, his true and current form is actually his Thousand Pierce skin as a result of lack of followers and had to rely on beasts and savages.
As of now, The Winter's Claw, Sejuani along with Olaf are fighting their way to the cauldron and potentially facing Volibear. While Ornn is beginning to forge weapons

I like this format, reading on Universe is really the way to go and just using the wiki to get answers to questions you want to know on the spot. The wiki is good for telling you stuff, but not really showing who the characters are. Every champ has a color story like that an they're all 7-8 minute reads that just show you who the character is beyond the bio, all very well written, Riot hired the best writers in the industry when they revamped the lore. Sadly many have been let go and now Riot is reevaluating how they update Universe in the future, Udyr didn't even get a new color story with his re-release T_T
The Thousand-Pierced Bear wasn't just going to be a skin, that was legit one of the main directions they were going with for Volibear during his 2020 VGU, in the Udyr/Sejuani Short story, Silence for the Damned by Odin Austin Shafer (regarded as one of the best stories ever written for League, seriously read this), they explored an even darker angle for Volibear, much more pagan and ritualistic who consumes the minds of the shamans who venerate him, making them vicious and primal, turning them into horribly disfigured bear-men called the Ursine. It's actually an aspect of Volibear as a god, one of his many-facets. If the polar bear standard Volibear is about the wildsthen the Thousand-Pierced Bear is Ruin incarnate.
Ultimately they didn't choose that route because it's too far from the Volibear that the players love which is understandable

If you want Champs that build the world so that other Champs make more sense, you should do lissandra, soraka, Jax, vel koz, ryze, and azir. That's not all, but it's a good start for a lot of the major events and key terms in league of legends.

so fun fact, when Volibear arrives and slams down onto the howling abyss, this actually happened in game where you could potentially encounter him while playing ARAM, this no longer happens tho
I feel volibear has arrogance but its hard earned arrogance through power and battle, he has lots of wisdom and lots of rage inside him he seems very focused and strong willed, at the same he has kindness in his heart the way he talks to and about anivia, overall he feels like an old warrior that will never give up battle.

League is hinting to the VOID becoming an issue in the near future, and we all know that a large part of The Watchers are sealed below the ice in the Freljord due to Lissandra. I'm kinda hoping for a Freljord reunite under a greater cause scenario. All three of the demi-gods uniting to strengthen the Freljord. Voli re-dawning his rune armor, Ornn crafting Rune Weapons & Armor again, and Anivia "Unleashing the Raging Blizzards" against a greater foe. This could be the thing that truly "BUILDS" the Freljord into something extremely unique.

Fun fact, the thousand pierced Volibear skin is his canon form. After his rework Riot gave the thousand pierced skin for free for everyone who played a game as Volibear since some players were upset that they didn't go with the thousand pierced Volibear as his base, canon, model.

fun little fact in league history: the designers of zilian hated the idea of an armored bear in the game. when volibear and zillian are on opposite team there is a passive that honor the history of the designer of volibear and zilian.

Random fact about being forgotten: while Kindred are the embodiment of death in Runeterra, the Etherfiend is the second death. A death that even gods are subjected to: being forgotten. So yes, gods and demigods do die in this universe.

Not sure what you mean by "Ursine" being familiar - whether the exact word "Ursine" regarding the lore or if it just sounds familiar. Because if it's the latter, you're probably thinking of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor (Great Bear and Lesser Bear, respectively) - the two constellations.
i think I had had it mentioned before or something but I wasn't sure where i had heard it but the ursa major/minor fact is cool!

for what I know, if people stop believing in the Freljord's gods they won't stop existing but they would lose a lot (not all) of their power. But that's just what I think lmao I think there is no exact answer in lore to that yet

If you're planning on doing Lissandra and the three sister. I think it would be better if you do all 3, Ashe, Sejuani and Lissandra in one go. Or you can do Ashe and Sejuani together, followed up by Lissandra later on.
