I love the word Cariad/gariad my grandparents used for each other when I was a child.---happy days.
Cutch melted me and I don't think I can say popty ping or even meicrodon without smiling
My favourite Cymraeg phrase is " bydd popeth yn iawn" had to say that a bunch of times after the world cup semi final this past weekend against South Africa. Diolch !
Thanks for uploading! I've been learning Welsh recently and I love your videos. I think my favorite words are ones with 'll' since it sounds funny to my ears, but it's fun to say. I'm quite fond of the llyfrgell
Brilliant! Really love your explanations of Welsh words
Glad you like them!
S'mae! My favourite word is: Derwyddon (obviously) 😁🏴
Bonus favourite: Heddwch
/|\
My favourite word at the moment is bendigedig :D
Thank you for putting together such fun words. My son's favourite is popty ping!
Wonderful, recognised all the words from childhood.
I love the word cwtch. My parents were both born in South Wales and I have so many memories of my parents saying "Let's cwtchy up". It is such a feeling!!!
I'm so glad u are making these videos 🤩
Well done mate. Love it
Awesome!! I've been attempting to learn Welsh for a while as I've been trying to write a book set in Wales. I am back at learning more words lately.
sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Tony Evan Instablaster ;)
@Lionel Markus i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Lionel Markus it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !
@Tony Evan glad I could help :)
This one was so useful!
Some of my favourite welsh words are nos da, this was the first word I loved, hoffi coffi, I know technically 2 words in one, and wedi blino. I love words that have a nice sound or are fun to say.
Love to know about every day words that people use. Sglods is brilliant 😊
Jason in another thread /comment, I asked about the Welsh rally team from Neath whose name means "Knights of the night". I now have it on good authority that they are, of course, "Marchogion-y-Nos". Cheers...(the secret seems to be to pronounce the 'g' as an 'n').
Really like this! Thanks!
Oh, you are sooooooo funny...I love these words!!!!! I love the historical and spiritual words like CYFARWYDD, poet, ancestor, Faery, wizard, etc.
It is hard being American and away from the lands of our ancestors. I was trying to learn Gaelic but the Mabinogi has my ancestors in it and the sound of the Welsh language stirs my HWYL....
Have you ever come across "spreeth" which means to chap in the wind? We used it in our family but no-one else seems to know it!
My favourite Welsh word is Bendigedig.
I really love cynefin. Like hiraeth, or the Danish word hygge, it's so much more than you could translate into one English word - you need a whole sentence.
I like Bwrw glaw
Omg yes!
Rolling the palate... rrrrs always knock me sideways now. A large part of my family did its best to hide their Welshness after moving to the states. It took me 6 months to learn to pronounce the LL. I'm pretty sure I'll embarrass myself when I visit the far cousins again, who assured me it's easier than English. LOL. But I intend to.
Pwp, or as the English say it Poop... very Welsh !
cool
Diolch! What about gwdi hw, or tylwyth teg?
I absolutely love the Welsh words Prynhawn (prynhawn da) and swyddfa (it's an office, right?). Smwddio is also great for mnemonic memory
Are there any Welsh songs that express the meaning of Hiraeth?
Meicrodon sounds like a small dinosaur. Like Mastadon.
🦕🦕😂😂😂🦖🦖
Shumae Jason, I downloaded your beginners Welsh book on amazon and the links to the audios don’t appear to work. Do they still exist? Diolch Gareth
zork I’m sorry that you haven’t been able to download the audios yet. I moved to a new web host yesterday and I will be uploading the audios over the weekend and updating the ebook with the new links. I’ll also add the new links to this comment so you can find them easily.
zork Hi Gareth! If you re-download the ebook into your kindle or kindle app, you’ll find new links for the audio lessons.
Oh no, I’ve been pronouncing Iechyd Da all wrong
Cariad, as my father always referred to me this way (S. Wales born and bred) 🙏 then Blodwyn bach 🤣🤣
My memories of cwtch were my Mam-gu trying to get the dog to go to his basket 🤣🤣🤣 I use it for my dog now.
"Cer I cwtch!" My childhood was the same 🤣
Sboncen is a fabulous gair yn Gymraeg.
Is it proper using dwt on people or does it only work with animals?
uneliasmarsu Yes it’s used for people. Mostly when talking about children.
I'm glad you dispelled the "Yachi-da" rubbish... I heard a friend toast me the other day with this but wasn't sure enough of the correct form to give him instead.
I'm from the UK and I am quite horrible, so you can blame me if you like 🤣
Tidy!
Diolch
Fy hoff air yw 'hollalluog' (neu 'hollalluogrwydd', efallai!).
Bendigedig
Dwt.
