Denys - From my experience as a retired oil company engineer, when you analyze the effectiveness of AFU strikes on refineries don't focus on burning tanks. Tank fires give spectacular flames and smoke and can only be extinguished once all the contents are burned which takes days. But tanks are relatively inexpensive and quickly replaced.
What I am sure the AFU knows is that the expensive and hard to replace equipment are the high pressure processing vessels and the pumps and compressors. These are highly engineered and required specialized expertise and plants to produce. It is likely very difficult for Russia to replace this equipment due to the sanctions.
they know this as well but also by burning the fuel it causes immediate shortages in the area . if the military vehicles don't have fuel it slows them down.
You are totally wrong...AFU is only concerned with the burning of oil...depriving the Russians of immediate resource. It can be manufactured in many locations up or down line ...but the immediate threat is to battlefield supply and then manufacture secondarily. I didn't start with I am an Retired Oil Company Engineer ..but will finish with I am LTC (Retired) IO with a MEng! I am sure Ukrainian forces are using their same in their capacity.

Tanks are cheap and easy to replace - there are substitutes for tanks. The infrastructure is FAR more critical in the long run. Sure, low on fuel helps some now. BUT Not having the ability to process crude, pump product and maintain a POL network is FAR more serious. Any 2nd Lt knows this. Why you dont ? Who knows, I guess its why you didnt get the full chicken. I spent time with some of the AFU, and "Col" they know what is critical. They understand tactical efforts and strategic efforts, its a joke that you do not.
Correct Paul, while the tanks and POL they contain are good to get rid of, the destruction of pumps / processing and other infrastructure is FAR more valuable. Russia simply cant replace a lot of that gear. Thats one reason BIDEN - yep BIDEN not Trump, has given sanction waivers to Oil Field Companies - WHO ARE WORKING IN RUSSIA RIGHT NOW. Enforce the sanctions, work on US oil and gas fields, NOT Russian - that is how we help Ukraine win this.

I think the strategy is obvious - the combined forces (NATO) tactics and hardware are much more effective in open ground, not a minefield and multi-layer trench fortification. They are essentially putting their fish in the water.
Nato is not involved. All members are totally independent. If they work together to support Ukraine that has absolutely no connection to Nato.

Can you comment on the rail infrastructure? This is a region where grain is grown and has to be transported out. As I have noted Russia use the rail system to move a majority of freight. If grain can't get to Moscow or Saint Petersburg to process grain into a finished product, what pressure does that put on the average Russia wanting to buy a load of bread?

The GDR, where the Soviet military was stationed, was an internationally recognized sovereign country. In 1990 the GDR joined the Federal Republic. And the withdrawal of the SU troops was negotiated and went on without problems, while the German Army already expanded until the Polish border.
None of the east bloc was actually "sovereign" in reality, they were all controlled from Moscow

And with the 4+2 treaty in 1990 all post-war stationing of British, French, US and Soviet troops came to an end at the latest. Ukraine is doing well, tactically strategically and are efficient. Russia is the exact opposite and is all about over whelming Ukraine, you MAY be able to recruit enough soldiers for now to keep this up but your equipment can't sustain losses like they are taking for much longer.
The same can be said for Ukraine. It's average soldier is over 40 years old and its govt and military funding is fully dependent on the West. Ukraine has also has difficulty recruiting/conscripting soldiers. Many like Denys, have fled the country.
