    I was 13 in 1967 and I had the same awestruck reaction to this song then as I do now to this live version. This song is a masterpiece, Gary's voice is stellar, and that Hammond organ played the greatest organ riff in rock and roll.........

    Boy that was refreshing. Having a couple of spring chickens that were around like I was in 67 when this masterpiece came out and appreciate great music. This was by far, the best performance ever of this iconic song. Gary's voice got better as he aged, which few artists can claim. Thank you young ladies.

    Once heard, never forgotten. Timeless Classic! - So many great songs in their catalogue. Another favourite of mine is "Conquistador" (Live version from Edmonton, Alberta). - Long history to the band too, going back before they became Procol Harum. Robin Trower was once part of the line-up. He left to go in a totally different direction. "Bridge Of Sighs" is definitely worth checking out.

    JUST SUBSCRIBED Grannies. Your channel just came up on my home page today and I love this song, esp. this 2006 version. Gary Brooker still sounds as good now if not better than when I was a teen. I went back and watched the Meatloaf and Heart concerts, some more classics. I have been following the career of a young prodigy singer by the name of Angelina Jordan, who is now 15 years old. She won Norway's Got Talent (NGT) at age 8 and appeared last January 2020 on America's Got Talent with her rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the age of 13 just a few weeks before turning 14. She received the golden buzzer and a shout out from Queen for her rendition. She went viral on NGT on her first audition song at the age of 7 singing Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" and ended the show a few weeks later with "Summertime". Angelina is an "old soul" and she has over 150 videos covering mostly classic songs from the 30's to the70's. She has millions of loyal followers worldwide that are mostly in the 50+ age range. You will not believe the talent of this young lady that signed with Republic Records last year as a "high priority" artist. Republic agreed to let her finish high school before an all out promotion. I suggest her to you because you are "retro" and so is Angelina at least until she hits the big time which should be soon. I recommend you react to her Bohemian Rhapsody performance and you will see a huge following flock to your channel and I guarantee you won't be disappointed in this rising star. You can check around YT and see how much she has been viewed by reactors. Once you hear her you'll want more. Hope you read this and try Angelina Jordan. Sincerely.....Cheers from Florida

    It was 1967, I was 3 and this was a massive hit. As time slipped by, the song became a classic, and I would think that everyone over a certain age will have some kind of memory connected to the song. I won't share mine, it's not for family viewing. (Rude, is being polite). A big favourite among the "flower power" movement, when weed meant more than common sense, and getting down and dirty ceased to be a love act, and instead was giving the complete wrong message about what love truly is. This song and "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies were the 2 songs of choice when I was being badly behaved with girls. See, I wasn't always a nice guy.....LOL
    Anyway, wonderful song then, and still is now. TTFN

    Listening to Gary's voice verifies the saying ...."improving with age". I think he sounds better now. Also, you mentioned about the organ. Nothing can equal the sound of the big old Hammond Organ that was so prevalent back in the 60's & 70's.

  • @carolhayar3037
    @carolhayar3037 Год назад

    Oops, you cut off Gary's thank you, thank you for having us & his lovely smile. There are many misconceptions surrounding the meaning of the song -- see ruclips.net/video/Pf73XwjZIFQ/видео.html for the interview w-writer Keith Reid & composer/lead singer Gary Brooker, founder of the band began in '67 who passed away in Feb. 2022. It is also said that Reid was "going to reveal the true meaning before he died" but he died before he explained anything. Many people believe it was about a drunken one-night stand. Procol Harum is supposed to have been the name of a friend's cat -- the name is a mis-spelling of the Latin phrase Procul Harun (roughly meaning “far beyond these things”), or that it was a corruption of Procellarum, a vast ocean on the Moon. It was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's “Sleepers, Wake!” and “Air on the G String” but contrary to popular belief, the song is not a direct copy or paraphrase of any music by Bach although it makes references to both pieces. As per Reid, the line "as the miller told his tale" is definitely not a reference to Chaucer's Miller's Tale. Reid has repeatedly explained he'd never read The Canterbury Tales when he wrote A Whiter Shade of Pale. In Roman Times Vestal Virgins were priestesses and acquired their name after Vesta, the goddess of the hearth and home to keep the home fires burning. It was their duty to not only remain a virgin for 30 years but they were to keep Vesta's sacred fire burning. This is the Danish National Concert Orchestra, filmed by Ledreborg Castle in Denmark 2006. The song has been the most played song in the U.K. for the last 75 yrs. Thanks - new subscriber.
