  • You might have considered switching from a carburetor to electronic fuel injection before, but held back because of worries about complexity and price. We visited FiTech to take a look at their Go EFI throttle body injection systems, and came away impressed with all the different possibilities, as well as how affordable they've made the conversion.

    It’s a throttle body with common shared injectors. Basically an electric carburetor, I’ve heard stories regarding controller issues so be aware and do further research.

    I have an issue with your set up. You are running the units backwards which puts the throttle linkage on the passenger side and all of the wiring sticking out the front. You are doing this because the ECU interferes with the distributor. This might work on a run stand but what about a car that you need linkage and a clean looking installation? I noticed because I am trying to install this unit and it does not fit the way it should.

    I have a 572 BBC big M block with brodix heads and a FX-4711 dominator style carb, crank trigger that you remove the sensor and turn it to adjust the timing msd 6 ignition box with rev limiters and 2 step controls producing over 900 hp stp normal aspiration in the Denver Colorado area through a dominator style carb. the solid roller cam is 4/7 swap .800 lift. I now have it down here at sea level and I need to go larger on the jets or even smaller on the air bleeds combination it has 98 jets in it now.what all is involved to install the 8 injector version that can handle 1200 hp.

  • @Jimmy-Volmer
    @Jimmy-Volmer 8 лет назад

    Ok, wait just a minute. From what I've been told and have read, you need an aftermarket ignition system for any efi kit to run properly. Now you're telling me this isn't so. How is that possible? Again, from what I've read and have been told, these kits simply won't run properly without say an MSD or Mallory type ignition unless you really luck out. Am I wrong? Oh by the way, I was told this by Richard Nedbal, a technician/dealer for the FAST and Holley efi systems. If you're in the industry, you should know who he is.

    • @PowerPerformanceYouTube
      @PowerPerformanceYouTube  8 лет назад

      +Jimmy_Volmer Please don't hesitate to speak to a representative at FiTech to answer your question regarding their EFI kits. Here's the link to their website, which has all of the contact information you need: fitechefi.com

    • @rogerramjet5092
      @rogerramjet5092 7 лет назад

      YOU should know that each brand has slightly different requirements. Mr Nedbal will tell you this himself. In fact the FITECH can run the ignition for you. At lest a distributor base don't know about DIS(distrbutorless ignition system) ie:LS coil near plug or ford & chryslers coil on plug perhaps not. You would need to go to there websit or call them.
      Don't know where your getting your info from most will run off the stock distributor. This a design feature to keep over all cost down.
      So yes you are wrong!!! They encourage after market because a hotter spark is a good thing. In the case of MSD they also make highly respected ignition boxes and distributors but they are not going to put off the guy who is stretching to make the cost of the EFI. by limiting it to only aftermarket ignitions. That's bad business. Look at FITECH best value on the market that I am a ware of; last I checked they were living the dream sold out on back order as of dec 2016..

    • @Jimmy-Volmer
      @Jimmy-Volmer 7 лет назад

      +roger depew I reallize each efi system is different. I also don't have a clue where you ot the idea that I was talking about replacing distributors. I simply was trying to confirm, or unconfirm, the info I got from Rich Nedbal.
      He said, and I quote, "These efi kits need clean signal", referring to the cd ignition boxes. This was roughly three years prior to Fitech coming to the market. He told me speciffically the FAST kits, which I was considerring buying, would not run without an MSD style ignition 99.9% of the time. He only became a tech/dealer of the Holley systems within the last year or so, shortly before Firech came out. I have also conversed with others in the efi game and they all said the same thing, that you'll need an aftermarket ignition box.
      i have tried getting through to someone wgo can answer my questions satisfactorily but they either don't respond or thery answer half my questions but don't answer that speciffic one.
      So I guess I'm gonna it again. How is it that every other system on the market requires you to have an MSD box, or similar, yet Fitech doesn't??

    before you buy a fi-tech system read this.. after many years of loving my carb i decided to try efi.. to save some money i tried fi tech.. it never worked properly.. after fooling with it for many months we had to send it back for a complete firmware update. it was a brand new system.. so now after 4 months of my car not running we had to spend many more hours with it. only to have the software die.. all 4 injectors failed. once again the system was useless. fi tech would not help me at all.. i sent the unit back to see if they would stand by their system and refund my money, but like before crickets.. fi tech does not stand behind their system.. before you decide on efi, check carefully and be very weary before you spend your money on a fi tech system. i went with holley and am very happy..be aware..

    Contrary. The only advantage I’ve ever seen with EFI over Carbureted is cold starts, which I personally have never had a problem with. Never had a well-tuned carburetor that made less power than an EFI on the same block. I’ve drag-raced people boasting EFI and TBI setups in “professionally-built” engines and walked away with thousands in bets. That being said, even most “modern” mechanics wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to tuning carbs save for RUclips tutorials, and they’re gonna spend only the amount of time they need to get it idling nicely. They aren’t gonna spend the time necessary to meter and jet it, and half of them don’t even know what a carburetor is to begin with. So TBI and EFI systems are a very good alternative for young yuppies who don’t know what they’re doing, but don’t even start pretending that there’s any “huge advantages” between EFI and a well-tuned carburetor.
