literally as I saw the behringer mixer - "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
I owned one, two people I know owned one. All of them are dead, now in the studio it gets used for storing jack converters.

KLAK (97.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Tom Bean, Texas; mainly serving the North Texas/Southern Oklahoma region (popularly known as Texoma). The station broadcasts an Adult Contemporary format with some Classic Hits content.
    History[edit]
KLAK started broadcasting on the 104.9 FM frequency on August 14, 1984, licensed to Denison, Texas. It moved to its present 97.5 FM frequency on May 12, 1987.
The call letters (which, unlike many stations, have not changed since the initial broadcast) are a reference to nearby Lake Texoma.
KLAK is the sister station to KMKT-FM 93.1 (Katy Country) and KMAD-FM 102.5 (Mad Rock 102.5); both based in Sherman, TX.
The KLAK studios, production facilities and business offices are located in the First United Bank Building at 1700 Redbud Blvd in McKinney, TX. The 50KW transmitter and 659' antenna/tower are located approximately 4 miles south-south-east of Tom Bean, TX

There is a KLAK-FM in Tom Beam, TX, which plays country hits. KLAK is free for use in AM or TV.

I was going to suggest WANK, but a station in Tallahassee has already got there. I think KACK is unused.
Not that these describe your output, mind!

I have an AM transmitter which is a bit more odd than that one. A kit built one that actually sends out AM stereo transmissions using a system developed by Motorola. It is part 15 legal if the input it 12 volts or less meaning it fits the bill for these types of experiments too. Operating on 1620 is a good choice for the reasons that your antenna will be about as efficient as it can be despite being shortened also the AM expanded band (1620-1700) is not as active.

I was on my 3rd transmitter in 2003 when I heard one of these talking house transmitters over a mile away doing better range than me. Encouraged by a ham buddy who reasoned that I'd not be satisfied until I bought the best, he told me just buy a Rangemaster now. I did and it's been running for 15 years in my backyard. Source is a Mac mini with compression done in software and audio leads through an impedance transformer. That's it. Audio I think is better than what you got but nowhere close to commercial. Need an Inovonics 222 with the famous asymmetrical peak limiter for any chance at that.

When I lived in Omaha I had a little Part 15 station called "WOQ" (With Out Question). ran OTR, music, and talk shows on 99.1FM. It was also on line as well. Kinda miss doing it, but it was fun!

Given once upon a time I used to be fairly big into ham radio (until sticker shock set in and i gave up on the whole notion) I have to say I'm always happy to see these rather weird attempts at making analog transmission work.

They still have talking houses. You tune into radio stations and they tell you about the house on that station. I've seen a couple in my town recently.

  • @brettcooper3893
    @brettcooper3893 5 лет назад +1

You've got it wired incorrectly, the compressor/limiter is supposed to get the feed FROM the mixer, and then on to the transmitter. That way, all audio (music and mic) get processed.

I would appreciate an OA radio station that ONLY played rip-offs.

Please don't block me Ben, but there _is_ a KLAK. Broadcast in the Texoma (North Texas/Southern Oklahoma) region.

Had a buddy who used one of these with a properly loaded antenna cut to the proper frequency, and he got darn near 2 miles range with it. These transmitters are marginalized because if you have a minimum of know-how, you can really make them shine and cover a modest sized neighborhood. I had a 100mW AM rig 25 years ago and used a dipole cut to the right frequency and got nearly 5 miles. Granted, using a properly loaded antenna makes you officially illegal. I went to FM shortly thereafter as you can go much further with very little power. AM is a totally different beast, but a blast to tinker around with. Only downside is if you're trying to actually get listeners, you need to go FM Stereo.

I run a LPFM station and for the money, an old Radio Shack Realistic mixer is still one of the best out there.

I actually just bought one of those today. Apparently you can use external antennas and get 1/2 miles and still be legal. You should try it

to be fair to the inbuilt mic it's still better than trying to listen to what someone is saying on an inbuilt laptop mic, with crazy digital compression.
