Enjoyed that. I see I`m not the only one who spotted that the opening titles used to seem to say "Doctor OHO" before settling into Dr WHO. Thing is I spotted it in 1963!
My dad and I noticed that too while watching! It’s become an inside joke between the two of us now while watching, now whenever the intro starts we laugh and say ‘Doctor Oho.” Hahaha
I think it's because it's not saying "Doctor OHO", but actually "DoccoD OHO", mirroring the letters, and then settling for "Doctor WHO", probably a reference to how they used some mirroring technique to make the Time Vortex effects
@@angelsone-five7912 they explained this in a documentary with Verity Lambert, they made two title cards and one had to be mirrored so that they could get the fade from one into the other right, tho if you look closely you can still see which is which in the final episode
I absolutely love these videos. I read an online forum that was super helpful but hearing it and seeing the clips is lovely. And I love your quips 😂 thank you for all you do good sir 😆
This is wonderful! Thanks so much for your hard work. I am currently re-watching all of classic who and you are helping me to fill in all the gaps from the missing episodes. Invaluable!
I keep coming back to these because they're such fun - I love the gentle ribbing. In Galaxy 4 where it's explained the beautiful blonde Drahvins, with the exception of Maaga, are clones that are 'specifically bred for war and unable to think for themselves' has me musing. At the risk of offending anyone, I'd like to have a small army like that under my command. Now, dare I click 'comment?' Oh, go on.
I'm loving this - an entertaining and informative synopsis of Year 3- funny, clever and a bit cheeky too. 60's Who is simply the coolest, and I look forward to more of your videos. Many thanks!
trust me, I know exactly what you mean, I have a similar series where i review every episode of gunsmoke, I've reviewed season 1 so far, season 2 is already written, I just need to record/edit them and hopefully I'll upload my season 2's reviews May 2023
The only real flaw in the early series' logic was The Doctor saying things like "we can't change the past"... like, bro, you're a timelord from the future. Everything is the past to you.
I would say the Doctor and the Time Lords are from the present day, like us. His more technologically advanced world is only separated from Earth by a distance in space, not time. The Tardis's default factory setting is to return to the present day. Is one of the reasons the Doctor's second home is present day Earth, and in this way, he CAN tell the past from the future. And yes, I think about this stuff way too much
@@THEGREATMAX "Himself from the past" yes but each incarnation is from his own era which is based in his own present day. Obviously. First Doctor from the early to mid 1960's, Second from the latter '60's and so on. He's a time traveller, of course there's a crossover lol. But each one returns to the era they're from, to their ongoing present... the Doctor is not from the future unless he meets his future self
The Doctor never *directly* kills anything. He might, by his actions, indirectly cause death. It helps him sleep at night, convincing himself that he didn't kill.
Cannot wait for the toymaker to return portrayed by nph on the new special coming out “the giggle “ ! Had to brush up on the lore , cant wait for david tennet to go nuts on screen again
I have no idea if this was on purpose or not, but when the Doctor is trying to explain gender to the Draven commander, he gestures repeatedly at her crotch. I can't tell if this was a sneaky Hartnell ad-lib, an intentional joke or just a coincidence, but it's amusing all the same.
I love the playfull sarcasm, satire & irony of the naration! Its a joy to listen to & laugh along with. Looking back now at these early seasons almozt 60 yrs on, I find it both laughable & shameful that the Whitaker/Chibnall seasons have been so brutaly criticised for WOKEism. DW has ALWAYS been of a socialist moral/political bias so accept a pretty blond female doctor just as in 1960's we accepted a knackered old man way past his prime as the doctor. Stories are as politiacaly relevent now as they were then 60 yrs ago which is a deeply sad irony as sooo many fans watching today, haven't got here the long way round as they were born too late to enjoy/suffer the whole journey.
"I find it both laughable & shameful that the Whitaker/Chibnall seasons have been so brutaly criticised for WOKEism" They haven't been criticised for being "too woke" and "puttin isis in my nascar to turn me into a hummusexual" outside of radical circles full of brain dead mouth-breathers, it's been heavily criticised for the abysmal writing (Jay Exci has a 5 hour video titled "The Fall of Doctor Who" on this and it's excellent) and its complete disrespect to the established lore, setting and almost completely destroyed the character of the Doctor with that Timeless Child bs. "Doctor Who has ALWAYS been of a socialist moral/political bias" My brother in Christ, it was a science fiction show meant to educate and entertain children. It was never and should never be political in nature, if you continue to project your political stances on to media you enjoy, you're going to be in for a bad time. "So accept a pretty blond female doctor just as in 1960's we accepted a knackered old man way past his prime as the doctor." Assuming anyone has a problem with the Doctor actually being a woman, you can't equate it to having an old man play the Doctor... an old man wiht a time machine. Additionally, Patrick is one of the lowest rated actors for the role which makes your whole point fall completely flat.
@@Malkether Some people prefer to claim racism, homophobia and misogyny rather than acknowledge the terrible writing, as a comfort. I don't mind them. They're only human.
Yep. The BBC really don't like me doing these videos I'm afraid. Every time the BBC complain about a section of the video, I cut that bit out and then when I re-upload a new version, they flag a different bit. Season 1 and 2 seem to be ok now but I'm having real trouble finding a version of season 3 that they will allow.
There are a few bits from The Savages that still exist. There are still images (production stills and "telesnaps", which are pictures of the TV screen that people took as the show was being broadcast). There are a couple of very short film clips (again recorded by fans pointing an 8mm home video camera at their TV) and the full audio soundtrack (again, recorded by fans at home). For any stories that are missing, I've tried to gather every available bit of content for these reviews to give a good flavour of what the story was like.
@Dankmeforus Sadly, the stories with just still images have been lost (destroyed by the BBC) so there are no clips to play. I've used video clips as much as possible based on what's survived, but if there's a still image here it means that there are no clips for that story.
The quality of these video is way better than some of the extras on the restoration dvds.
Screw the BBC, this is brilliant!
Many thanks for your hard work and I can only wish you all the success you clearly deserve.
That feast of Steven Line hits way harder when you consider some of the ACTUAL things that happened on film sets in the 20’s
