It's similar, but not the same. Think of damping like using acoustic treatment for specific frequencies. When you put up acoustic treatment, it doesn't cut those frequencies like an EQ cuts them, it just dampens them in the room. That's why there are separate parameters for damping and for EQ. I like to think of it like I'm throwing a blanket over that specific frequency range. In the example, I boosted the highs to exaggerate what it sounds like. It can be a little tricky to wrap your mind around the difference, but if you play around with both of them enough, you'll start to hear the differences.
