- While getting ready for Burning Man 2022, among all the other preparations, it occurred to me that I should apply for a drone permit. After filling out the application I kinda forgot about it concentrated on other things. When I did finally get the news that I had permission fly a drone at the event, it changed my plans for the week completely. Now I had a mission!
Even though my week was cut short by some last minute difficulties, I still managed to get some cool footage. But even before I got home, I was plotting and planning on how to capture even more. Next year's going to be the best. See you there.
**Shot on a DJI Mavic 3, and an Insta360 One RS 1" edition. The shot at 0:36 and the end are just a 360 camera on a stick, never fly over large crowds.

Actually only about 3 feet! It's a 360 degree camera, so you can warp the image to a ultra-wide view, which gives it the impression of being far away.

Hey there. I shot some amazing drone footage at night and the org filed a copyright claim on my work and had it removed from RUclips because I didn't register my drone. But the FAA says, "To ensure the maintenance of a safe and sound air transportation system and of navigable airspace free from inconsistent restrictions, FAA has regulatory authority over matters pertaining to aviation safety. Because Federal registration is the exclusive means for registering UAS for purposes of operating an aircraft in navigable airspace, no state or local government may impose an additional registration requirement on the operation of UAS in navigable airspace without first obtaining FAA approval."
So my first question is did you register your drone prior to the event and secondly, did you file a project request with Media Mecca and have to submit for review before you posted this video here?
Yes and yes! Regarding the above quoted regulation, my guess would be that the org obtained FAA approval to require the extra registration.
It is SO Beautiful. It makes me wish i had gone to Burning Man more while i was there. :|
