    I am right now living in Argentina and really want to get this right and authentic, the taste of the yerba mate is very strong for me but I am still trying it out to see its effects. I really appreciate your video and attention to detail, I have a few questions you mentioned after the taste gets weak you will show us how to use the upper fry part, do you have a video on that? The second question I am finding is more leafy mate here and not this fine grounded version that I see in your videos, do you talk about this in one of the videos? I would love to learn about this as well. Also if you know of any workshops or places that one can go and learn more in person about yerba mate that would be wonderful.

    Good video and very good way to prepare the Mate ... but we do not use tea bags, the dust grains in the tea bags are too thin ... and they can produce bulb obstruction ... About adding sugar to the Mate. ... is considered a crime ... Mate and sugar or honey are not compatible ... Many people add in a very small amount to other plants to flavor, such as cedron, peperina, donkey tea, a bit of orange peel ... but most people drink mate using only Yerba Mate and nothing else ...

    The stuff from the bags is probably not good for preparing loose like that. I imagine it's like the difference between loose (whole leaf) tea and the smaller, leftover bits of tea used in tea bags.

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  7 лет назад

      tropicalscot The powder is akin to a ground up spice or herb, no difference. It may actually make the drink healthier, as the cell walls of the plant are more exposed and nutrients can better infuse in the water. I love the powder.

    How is that extra-fine tea bag leaf through that bombilla of yours? The bombilla usually goes in first, and then mate goes on top of it. Shoving that bombilla down into the wet mate only happens when you have a super special sharp-ish curved tip like that one. There is always a different way of doing things depending on circumstance. Not everyone is going to do it like you.

    I just found out about the unsmoked and traditional smoked differences by your article. You said to drink unsmoked. Is drinking traditional smoked ok if you drink it occasionally? I just opened up a fresh batch of the guayaki brand (smoked) and don’t want to throw it out unless I really shouldn’t drink it. I also have the Ecoteas unsmoked which I love. Thanks.

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  5 лет назад +1

      Tony Paoletto 99% of all yerba is unsmoked. And 99% of all yerba has smoke contact for at least a small period of time (thus, massive confusion in the market). Then there’s a ‘true smoking’ process call barbacua. Scientifically speaking, non-barbacua yerba is mostly likely healthier than barbacua, simply due to less free radicals and reactive oxygen species produced in the drinker’s body. With that said, there is still no longitudinal study to show without a doubt that either type is healthier than the other. So, for me, it’s a personal decision to drink mostly non-smoked yerba, on the basis of my common sense of what’s healthier.

  • @JLucRob
    @JLucRob 8 лет назад +1

    When you add the dummy water, why don't you drop some on the top of the mountain of mate? Why do you want to keep that part dry?

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  8 лет назад +3

      +EyedeaOne Good question! I'll make another video explaining that in detail. But basically, it's to preserve some dry yerba to use later, after the yerba you're drinking on the current side becomes tasteless. It's called "hemisphere switching."

    • @JLucRob
      @JLucRob 8 лет назад

      +Circle of Drink
      Well, I'm curious to see that.
      If you're going to end up pouring hot water over the mountain later in the drinking process, why not get it wet with dummy water at the beginning with the rest?

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  8 лет назад +1

      Sure, some people do that. But I don't because it defeats the purpose of extending the cycle length of the mate. It's a sort of subtle detail that allows you to split the mate in half, allowing you to drink the fresh yerba of one side immediately, then later starting fresh from the preserved mountain of mate. You'll see in the next video.

    • @JLucRob
      @JLucRob 8 лет назад

      Ahah! Yes we're in the details here!

      Always put your finger on the upper en of la bombilla when introducing it into the water. This prevents air from getting out la bombilla and making it clogged with yerba particles.

    • @Circleofdrink
      @Circleofdrink  5 лет назад

      That may indicate that the mate lost some of its potency (or it could have been a weak mate to begin with). Stored properly, in a dark and dark location with some airflow, mate can actually improve with age. But if it has gone bad, there's no return.
