How is that extra-fine tea bag leaf through that bombilla of yours? The bombilla usually goes in first, and then mate goes on top of it. Shoving that bombilla down into the wet mate only happens when you have a super special sharp-ish curved tip like that one. There is always a different way of doing things depending on circumstance. Not everyone is going to do it like you.
Michael The Namesake Everyone should prepare mate however they desire. This video is for educational purpose only. Not dogmatic principals. It’s just mateeee... so smile :)
Thanks for the video. I bought a yerba mate kit today and am trying this drink for the first time. I'm in Mexico, and the Liverpool department store is a good source for yerba mate products here. What are your thought on the Rosamonte and Taragui brands? Another brand that they carry is called Suave Union.
No sugar?😮 My dad doesn't either... My wife is Porteña and I've slowly grown accustomed to it after spending time down there. I like to put honey in mine.
Okey guys. I tried doing it your way, from previously doing it my way. I felt no difference, except mate was less strong, and lasted longer. What I was doing, was simplest way of doing mate, Put mate in cup, plop the bombija, and add water. I prefer my way, I go through bag of mate faster, but I don't mind it.
Depends on the ''mate'' (mate is called the ''glass'' sorry for my eng btw). Is also correctly to do it like u do. Greetings from Corrientes, Argentina. World capital of yerba mate :)
I just found out about the unsmoked and traditional smoked differences by your article. You said to drink unsmoked. Is drinking traditional smoked ok if you drink it occasionally? I just opened up a fresh batch of the guayaki brand (smoked) and don’t want to throw it out unless I really shouldn’t drink it. I also have the Ecoteas unsmoked which I love. Thanks.
Tony Paoletto 99% of all yerba is unsmoked. And 99% of all yerba has smoke contact for at least a small period of time (thus, massive confusion in the market). Then there’s a ‘true smoking’ process call barbacua. Scientifically speaking, non-barbacua yerba is mostly likely healthier than barbacua, simply due to less free radicals and reactive oxygen species produced in the drinker’s body. With that said, there is still no longitudinal study to show without a doubt that either type is healthier than the other. So, for me, it’s a personal decision to drink mostly non-smoked yerba, on the basis of my common sense of what’s healthier.

Is the room temperature water really necessary? It's been shown that hot water extracts more from the mate than cold water. As long as it's not too hot shouldn't it be okay to just use hot water by itself?
I enjoy maté. I read that a study linked cancer of the throat, lungs and oesophagus to regular drinkers or maté over long periods of time. Im asking what your opinion of this is. I know it has a lot of health benefits. I dont think their have been lots of studies on this topic. However surely if this was true it would be more concrete if you know what i mean. And lots of athletes drink maté who have thorough health checks so it can't be that harmful right?
Hi, I seen in the comments that you said to replace the mate after it’s tasteless or about 30 cycles. Do you think there is a limit on how much mate someone should consume? Like after my mate is tasteless is it okay to make another than another?
Hey quick question Are they any age restrictions on drinking mate? And also, if it’s too bitter, can we just add sugar? And if we do add sugar, do we mix it in or pour water and absorb it? I rlly wan a try it and I wanna know how to work with it man lolol
Children under 12 should limit their intake. However, in South America, you have pregnant women whom consume tremendous amounts of yerba with no ill effects to the child. Sugar is added to the gourd before the water is added each time, or as needed.
Would like to know if its Normal to have some of the seeds going through this straw while drinking it? I tried every way ( using taragui con palo) but everytime i drink it, its always the seeds going into the straw
Do I can the Yerba mate leaves once a day, or every time I'm going to drink mate, or can the same leaves until the following day or days? If that makes sense. lol I'm trying to learn.
Just asking your opinion. I just started having tea bags that have Mate in it. I've done some research on it and many sites are saying there are risks of certain cancers with prolonged use. What's your opinion on this?
+EyedeaOne Good question! I'll make another video explaining that in detail. But basically, it's to preserve some dry yerba to use later, after the yerba you're drinking on the current side becomes tasteless. It's called "hemisphere switching."
+Circle of Drink Well, I'm curious to see that. If you're going to end up pouring hot water over the mountain later in the drinking process, why not get it wet with dummy water at the beginning with the rest?
Sure, some people do that. But I don't because it defeats the purpose of extending the cycle length of the mate. It's a sort of subtle detail that allows you to split the mate in half, allowing you to drink the fresh yerba of one side immediately, then later starting fresh from the preserved mountain of mate. You'll see in the next video.
Always put your finger on the upper en of la bombilla when introducing it into the water. This prevents air from getting out la bombilla and making it clogged with yerba particles. This prevents you from ingesting them too.
What do you call "energy" exactly ? Also I've read it can contain carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, depending on how it is dried... and found nothing on nutritional benefits. So I'm not sure it's that good for you health. Drinking carcinogenic coumpounds is not the best idea ever :)
@@Circleofdrink i tried it. it's extremely strong. might just use tea pot except on special occasions . i see now why it's tradition to pass the gourd around like a blunt
A lot of great information, leaving like. That being said I could go without a lot of the bullshit, "mate is the most powerful herb in the world", like what does that even mean? By what metric?
I have a question. After I add the warm water and i don't see the white bubbles is that necessarily bad? My mate has been in my cabinets for about a year or two or three, i don't know if thats a bad thing.
That may indicate that the mate lost some of its potency (or it could have been a weak mate to begin with). Stored properly, in a dark and dark location with some airflow, mate can actually improve with age. But if it has gone bad, there's no return.
Im from Argentina and i never had put room temperature water first, i dont think is neccesary (i dont know anyone that does that) but it WAS A REALLY GOOD VIDEO!
Does anyone find that a triple filter bombilla makes the liquid cold? I don't know if that's good or bad, compared to a standard bombilla even when liquids warm
Good vid but you made one crucial mistake. Always put your finger on the upper en of la bombilla when introducing it into the water. This prevents air from getting out la bombilla and making it clogged with yerba particles.
Juan Sebastian Gomez Nah, I don’t like doing that. I never get air in the bombilla. Thanks for the tip, though. I do see many Brazilians doing that technique but it’s not for me. Salud.

Man you make it seem complicated but it is how it is...almost 15 minutes!

How long does the mate in the gourd last, before you have to replace it ?
Until it's tasteless
Do I can the Yerba mate leaves once a day, or every time I'm going to drink mate, or can the same leaves until the following day or days? If that makes sense. lol I'm trying to learn.
Do I change* the Yerba Maté leaves once a day...
Sure, you can use the same leaves up to 2 days.
Circle of Drink but it won't taste very good if he does that... :/
I use less mate in my "gourd" which is actually stainless steel.
Is it necessary to shake out the Yerba to get the excess dust out if you are using a French press?
Nope, the powder is good. It adds to the body of the mate.
Just asking your opinion. I just started having tea bags that have Mate in it. I've done some research on it and many sites are saying there are risks of certain cancers with prolonged use. What's your opinion on this?

Great video 😀😀😀 tastes so much better
Grazie :)
Drinking the same Yerba as I pulled up this video 😀. I love watching your videos 👍
Many thanks :)
beautiful
What is this mate (brand) called? I want to try this.
When you add the dummy water, why don't you drop some on the top of the mountain of mate? Why do you want to keep that part dry?
+EyedeaOne Good question! I'll make another video explaining that in detail. But basically, it's to preserve some dry yerba to use later, after the yerba you're drinking on the current side becomes tasteless. It's called "hemisphere switching."
+Circle of Drink
Well, I'm curious to see that.
+Circle of Drink
Ahah! Yes we're in the details here!
Thanks for the reply, I will keep an eye out for the next videos.
For how long can you keep on adding hot water to your gourd before it sort of goes bad? Can you ''refill'' it multiple times throughout few hours?
Depends on the strength of the mate. Around 30x / avg. Read more here: circleofdrink.com/yerba-mate-cycles-explained
Plaza Costa Rica? Awesome location. Mate + party right across the street. Not too bad eh.

When we are making this is okay to drink the tiny pieces of mate that make it past the “bombilla”
Nothing happens but it feels kinda gross
Always put your finger on the upper en of la bombilla when introducing it into the water. This prevents air from getting out la bombilla and making it clogged with yerba particles.
This prevents you from ingesting them too.
What do you mean by powerful herb ? Powerful in what sense ?
Powerful in many senses: nutritional benefits, energy, sense of well being.
Drink too much and you have a powerfull watergun in the toilet
how long can you keep adding water before you need to replace the mate
Antonio about 30 cycles.
Thanks for the wonderful feedback :) Salud to mate!
Must agree.... too much talk
I bought mate from natural grocers store here in Kansas... It was sweetened with Stevia. Now all I taste is Stevia, no mate 😞
Excuse me i love the yerba mate but where do you buy the termos for the water mate??
Walmart has GREAT thermoses for mate. Keeps it hot for hours and hours. Easy to pour too.
Can you use a glass gourd? Or does it have to be calabash
Lupii Jasso you can use ceramic, glass, silicone, etc. calabash is just more traditional
Awesome
Does anyone find that a triple filter bombilla makes the liquid cold? I don't know if that's good or bad, compared to a standard bombilla even when liquids warm
and what s the mountain for ? when we refill its soaking ?
max berthault Yes, it's a reservoir of fresh mate to be used as the current side of mate loses taste.
Circle of Drink thank you for respond.
very inspiring video
I want to try this
Gonzalez Tutorial Musica Con Proposito try some now! :)
NICE
Thanks!!! ;)
Andresito is the best yerba mate
I'm Mexican can I drink it?
Irving Macias Hmm I’ll consider it and get back to you in 19 moons.
@@Circleofdrink I had a friend from Uruguay and his dad would always drink mate and that's where I found out about it.
Salud.
@@Circleofdrink well thats what matr is all about. Doing it ur way, cheers
Too much Mate for myself. I think i Just do it with a french Press and Like 3 spoons of Mate

I do like on your video, but my mate have only a little taste. IT is weak I dont have clue why
Muy bueno, Burton Fabrica y venta de mates y Bombillas
I'm getting a lot of powder through my bombilla ... Is that normal?
Sure, for the first few cycles. Make sure you are using the proper bombilla for the particular mate cut.
@@Circleofdrink Had about 4 cycles... still getting bits. Get a finer bombilla?
@@iandrewtv Get a spoon bombilla like the "Simone Round" model we carry.
@@Circleofdrink or also cheap "yerba mate" contains more powder.i recommend getting a fine strainer and passing it through at least once
@@elrufino7066 More powder doesn't denote cheap mate, no. Some of the finest yerba is actually, pure powder!
We drink mate in Syria everyday
Tasneem Durid god bless yerba Mate.
Tasneem Durid this is not Syrian though it’s original from Argentina
Looks like green tea
I was the 999th person to like your video tonight I have finally made my first cup of yerba mate I was introduced to it in 2002 and haven't drank any since then but I finally bought a gourd and two bags of yerba mate.
8/10 pero salio un buen mate. I enjoy this video. Thanks
