Doll mad Kathy Libraty is barely visible amongst her astonishing collection of antique dolls - worth a whopping £1.23m. Every inch of the 52-year-old's home is filled with over 1000 of the figures she has been collecting for over 25 years. Mum Kathy is so obsessed with dolls she now has to smuggle new editions to her hoard into her home - past her husband who said 'no more'. But along with pretty daughter Elisa, 19, even hubbie Frank, 52, gets roped in to helping her repair and organise her vast assortment. Kathy's dolls - ranging from two inches to over three feet high - come from all over the world including countries like Germany, France and the Far East. Some individual models are over 170 years old and all cost between £30,000 and a meagre 60p. Included in the range are famous figures like Henry VIII and his six wives, Victorian dolls from the 1900s, voodoo dolls, and even some from the 1880s used to smuggle opium.
Literally my room right now I currently have 126 and I love collecting them I am only 13 but I love dolls so much. I have much Childhood trauma from past years and never got to have a normal childhood so collecting these pieces of art makes me happy to express my inner child

But I was always afraid of the ones that can close their eyes when they lay down 😖 still to this day if I ever sleep in the same room as a doll I’ll turn it to face the wall before going to bed.
when i was a little boy i used to love my sisters dolls, my dad was not happy but to this day i still love them, love your antique dolls. i always think if something makes you happy why not.

Even if worth more than my car most of I would not buy them. I am glad she enjoys collecting them. Other people would appreciate them. A few of them are cute.

To those that own Japanese bjds and continue to put down collectors of antique French and German bisque dolls, please know your doll history. If it weren't for European antique bisque dolls and the traditional Japanese Ichimatsu dolls, modern Japanese bjds would have never existed.
As someone who just entered the BJD community, I applaud this woman's collection. And if other BJD collectors really do talk mess about other types of dolls and doll collectors, then wow....what an embarrassment. I most definitely will try to avoid rude and toxic individuals like that and surround myself with more positive ones. You know about ichimatsu dolls? :) I believe those are still being made actually.

Ivy Magallanes wait do bjd owners really do that? Im savin up for a bjd right now but i adore antique French and German dolls. I dont understand why bjd collecters would put them down when they are so pretty. Im still trying to learn more about doll history myself and the cultures behind the dolls as to not be disrespectful.
You speak from my thoughts... Some people who doesn't know anything about doll history itself are even rude if you tell them that there ARE interesting dolls beyond resin BJDs that might be art or worth collecting :-(... I love dolls in general and am happy if anyone appreciate them, no matter what style, material, period or price tag (though I PERSONALLY have a weakness for handmade artist porcelain dolls but I have a collection with all kinds of dolls and I love them all)...

Very nice! I hate how people who comment ask how you can sleep at night and stuff, and for that question I'd say for myself VERY easily. I collect BJDs and I just love them to bits. They stay in my room (sense I have nowhere else to put them). Dolls have a lot of beauty that some people just don't get or understand. I wish you and your collection well. (:
We have different levels of tolerance. Some like her is not afraid of these things, some gets disturbed by these dolls.
This is definitely going to be when I'm older. I see dolls at yardsales and things and want to get them but don't have any room to put them. But before my grandma passed away she would give me dolls like these for every occasion for years. So they make me think of her. And besides I just think they are beautiful world of art. Only problem...some people are terrified of dolls and would probably never come over again lol

Like alot of successful businesses, the love of dolls started before the actual business.

That is beautiful. I grew up with a doll collection. I was hoping to pass it down to my daughters. Instead I went through a robbery and they were stolen. Bad roommates with drug addiction problems will steal and sell anything.

Nice large collection of Antique Dolls:). I personally collect mostly Teddy Bears as an Adult, but I have kept some of my Dolls from Childhood. My Grandparents gave me a collectable Madame Alexander Snow White Doll that I received for my 10th Birthday. I still have my 2 Effanbee collectable Dolls I got as presents as a child. One of my Effanbee Dolls is Bride's Maid I called "Holly" as a child, My other Effanbee Doll is a Doll in Victorian Dress that was named "Kathleen" by the Effanbee Company. I also have kept 4 of my Barbie Dolls. Now sadly none of my Dolls are in mint condition because as a child they were so well loved and even entered my Madame Alexander Snow White Doll and others in 2 Dolls in Contests at my Summer Day Camp, but I never won.

When a person is afraid of dolls its called pediaphobia. Some dolls can look frighten. My grandmother use to have a doll that I was afraid of, my mom had this antique doll that sat in a rocking chair and if you winded the knob looking thing at the back of her neck she plays music. I think porcelin dolls are unique and cute, But some of them I woulnt want to own cause looks to human like. But I Love Them😉

I'm cool if some of you are afraid of dolls, but seriously that doesn't mean you can just say their evil and should be destroyed, dolls can be a form of art, back then those antique porcelain dolls were handmade and people took a lot of hardwork making them, I'm fine if you're afraid of those old antique dolls but at the same time those dolls should also deserve respecte cause like I said, they were handmade and people took a lot of hardwork making them

I found a Doll inside a wall I was tearing down. On her neck and joints it reads. (AM Germany) and signed by needle point "E R George" Does anyone know who that is ? I've found multiple Doll makers from the AM Germany company but E R George seems to be non existent.

Just tossing out a random thought: I keep the dolls I need to get to more often on a lower shelf and put the ones I don't really touch much on a higher one. Because the black dolls are rarer and she has a far amount, maybe she gets requests from people requesting photos of them for reference books. Easier to get them off a lower shelf than carefully take them down from a top one.

🖤💗🖤Tiffany Taylor from the 70s is my favorite doll her hair flips from blonde to brunette. I found one on ebay for 28.00 plus 15.00 shipping UNREAL DEAL they go for hundreds but its in mint condition with a pink fluffy dress on like they wear at Kentucky Derby she is also being shipped from Kentucky. I love her at 1st sight and could not resist she is Sooooo pretty ☺

All these dolls are very exquisite and antiques, very rare and very costly, if you look at their costumes too, the details are amazing, its like antiques but in doll form.
