Was Mumbai unprepared for rains?
    Heavy rains pummelled Mumbai and its suburbs in which two persons died of electrocution and bringing normal life to a grinding halt on Friday (June 19) with several areas waterlogged and local train services cancelled leaving thousands of commuters stranded. As civic authorities described the rainfall in the country's financial capital as "unprecedented", they said 283 mm of rain, which is normally received in 10 days, was witnessed in just 24 hours. Mithi river is around the danger mark, according to Yuva Sena Chief Aditya Thackeray. Educational institutions were shut and government and private offices reported thin attendance. The Bombay High Court and other courts were also shut. "The city has witnessed unprecedented rainfall in the last 24 hours, more than that the city usually receives in 10 days. Mumbai witnessed 283 mm of rain in 24 hours," the city's Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta told reporters. "Of the total annual average rainfall Mumbai witnesses, 10 percent of it has been received in 24 hours, which usually takes 10 days," he added.

    Dear Arnab,
    My sincere thanks for getting this things out in the media. Lots of thanks on behalf of every Mumbaikar. But the people are ready to forgive what has happened, Sorry we have no other option other than forgiving them, but we would like to know what is the plan of action, how are they planning to tackle the technical, project planning and anti-corruption challenges. You should have half of the time reserved for the debate between these politicians an the scholars, critics to get to the bottom of solutions. Get the deadlines from them on television. Get all party leaders on the answering side. Who ever has better plan will get chance soon. And the competitions will be at the peak. People will know why the issues are still unresolved. You should get the answers from them.

    In Singapore it rains through out a year and they don't have any waterlogging problems like in India. This is what happens when cities are poorly planned. Corruption in municipal corporations is a big problem through out India. Privatization or private management can cut down corruption and inefficiency

    See the Panipat of Mumbai, and remember how Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj competed with the 17th century Mogul ways. Now we need to excel in the 21st century global ways

    Why so reactive measures? Leaders going out in last minute on the street does not help. Govt should have been proactive and indulge all scientific and civil engg studies and measures and make corrective measures. Corruption is very deep

    "The drainage system is from the times of the British Raj" ..... what a miserable statement. The people are to the politicians are dumb, that is why they can say statements like this,. If the British raj's drains are working til today then, is she saying the British were better in dealing with the monsoon of the 40's, as their system was coping till 2015.

    NYC and JERSEY CITY are divided by the Hudson River and those flood all the time and there is so much water logging in the downtown areas .... So this is not a phenomena limited just to Mumbai ..

      ***** Really? .... What happened during hurricane Sandy in 2012? ...... Google if you dont know about it ..... and NY and NJ dont even get such torrential rains as mumbai does ..... yet the place doesnt have an evacuation plan ... some places looks electricity for weeks .... here only those slums field with filth from UP, BIHAR and BANGLADESH are affected and rightly so .... you build slums illegally on land that does not belong to you and stop the flow of water into the occean ..... MARNE DO SAALON KO ...BHENCHOD!!

    • @drewtocrewoffense5082

      New orleans is a city located below sea level ... and they have hurricanes every year ... katrina was just too catestrophic and nyc and jersey city have skyscrapers too which are more densely populated and adjacent to each other...... and most importantly, there are very few human civilizations in the downtown area of both .... people work there and live on the outskirts of the cities ... yet they have these issues ... in mumbai, these slums are built in the middle of the city ... andheri, ghatkopar. Sion and those areas is where slums are built and there is maximum water logging issues .... you dont see water logging issues in south mumbai or in uptown like borivli and kandivli ... why? Because uptown and south mumbai have take care of these issues .... oh btw, you are an educated man ... quit acting like a child to prove you dumb hypothesis correct
      ...hurricanes can cause torrential rains and you are well aware of it ... btw, if the marathi chauvinistic force as you call them was so destructive, then bjp and shiv sena wouldnt have ruled over the 30 legislative seats in mumbai ... this corrupt congress-ncp alliance would have been been triumphant ... anyways, i know you will.go to any level of Hysteria to prove your hypothesis so i wont argue anymore ...

    • @drewtocrewoffense5082
      @drewtocrewoffense5082 9 лет назад

      The old structures have contributed as the structures are over 100 years old .... even NYC has been built over a period of 100 years old .... but slums over drainage system have added.... you talked of dombivli ... you should check out the slums built in mumbra and diva areas by bangladeshis and thenn talk ... and dude please dont show my articles from presstitues ... there is a congress-ncp votebank that lives within these shanty delapidated structures and shiv sena knows that very well....they wont dare to.say anything against them.on national.tv ...and plz tell me onething ... are you against any infrastructural development? ...uou want the slums to rise? ... go.to dahisar link road and see.how these illegal slums have risen in mumbai ....i am not saying that BMC has done a fantastic job... they have made their share.of mistakes but dont be biased ... look at all the aspects

    • @drewtocrewoffense5082
      @drewtocrewoffense5082 9 лет назад

      ***** why go anywhere else .... the biggest/dirtiest slum dharavi is the reason the Sion/Kurla/Matunga area gets flooded ... anyways, I am done arguing with you over this

      @drewtocrewoffense5082 9 лет назад

      Hahaha .. really? .. ever lived in sion area? ... you live in navi mumbai which is relatively new and well planned ... its not the case with mumbai ... water logging in these central areas has been happening for ages
