I used to work at a movie rental store in the late 1990s, and this video was infamous at work. The box had a big ass button that said "PUSH ME" and if you were foolish enough to do so, it screeched across the entire store "WANNA DATE?" It was hilarious watching the guys slink away in shame being caught looking at the movie called "Frankenhooker".
Joe Bob Briggs tells a great story that when this movie was sent to the MPAA for rating, the censor sent it back to the director with a letter saying "Tell you what, I'm gonna do you a favor. How about we refund your screening fee, you take this movie back, and we're both going to act like it never happened, because we don't have an "S" rating." the director replied "S...you mean for 'Sexy'?" the MPAA man said "NO! FOR SH*T!"
My grandma loves this movie. She's been trying to hunt it down on DVD for years and my aunt finally found it for her. I always wondered why she loved this bizarre sounding movie so much. Now I know. Thanks, James XD
Frank Henenlotter is actually one of my favorite directors. He has the ability to blend the absurd with the touching. He can take a silly movie, and add heart.
I like the reviews for this kind of movie. James got the perfect mix between serious film critic and a friend that recommends you some fucked up shit with "you've got to see this, trust me"
I thought this low-budge film was a true classic. They used to play it every Saturday night at midnight at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles. They should bring it back!!
It's pretty great. Hennenlotter's movies are always interesting. It's like he's trying to deconstruct the idea of filth. He's like a funnier "William Lustig" in that regard.
I remember always seeing the box for this at Blockbuster when I was growing up. Oversized with a big button on the front that you could press and it would say "Want a date?" - hah! My mum would never let me see it though...
To be perfectly frank, your a bit of a frankenfreak James...and I mean that as a term of endearment. This is just the type of movie I need to jump me back to life...just made it through hurricane Matthew while watching the old dark house using the storm as perfect atmosphere…Courtesy of you James, of course
Hammer's Dracula and Frankenstein films are some of the best films ever made of any genre, in my opinion. They're all absolutely GORGEOUS to look at! And Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing?! Come on! They're the greatest team in acting history!
I fee like like the lead actor decided to emulate Eugene Levy the whole movie. I fucking love this movie. Felt like the director was trying to alienate the audience, then bring 'em back, then back and forth, like a comedian toying with the people watching them. It's fucking gold.
this ones looks pretty interesting to watch... Just out of curiosity, whats up with the gargoyle at the ending of each vid? did you make it?, mike? is it borrowed? did it take a lot of time?
Yo James man, you gotsta start workin' on your own horror movie! YOU GOTSTA! Gather all that horror knowledge and film making skills into a horror to astonish your fans with
Just found this at Astronomicon 2020! Gonna watch it when I get home! We were hoping to see you here James. You should totally come next year if you’re able! My hubby did see someone from your crew here on Friday though. He was telling me about it. Can’t wait to watch this! Hope you had an awesome weekend!
Frank H is such a nice guy. I just got an autograph from the twins in Basket Case. Love your video store. I could tell you stories for days. I used to be a family video store clerk. We had everything for the kids, right up to Moms and Dads only.
If I could make a few requests for Franken Friday. Here are some other Frankenstein related media pieces out there. 1. The Famous Adventures of Mr.Magoo - Doctor Frankenstein 1965 2. Alvin and the Chipmunks meet Frankenstein 3. Wishbone's Frankenbone (not really a movie but this episode does a rather well-done rendition of Mary Shelly's story) The Mr.Magoo one is really great, I've watched it several times on RUclips
Lol I'm so happy you covered this one. I caught it a year or so ago on one of the digital cable movie channels and I do NOT regret watching it. Definitely one of the "terrible greats".
Totally waiting for James to review "Tusk". Hmm.. it's not really a "monster movie" But the villain DOES make a monster out of the protagonist... so...kinda monster-movie-ish... but also having other elements of weirdness.
My favorite Frankenstein movie is Frankenstein: The True Story. Not one of my friends or family has seen it or even heard of it. I've loved it, since I was a child.
Hey James, if you love this, you need to see director Frank Henenlotter's more recent film "Bad Biology". Just as F'd up as this film (it may be even more screwed up). Thanks for Monster Madness, I've been watching them since the beginning and love them every year.
I love MST3K, Rifftrax and those types of Movies that they riff. I enjoy Cinemassacre, even though I mostly consider myself a Sci-Fi nerd. I know this video is 2 yrs old, but I had to post to say, I just bought the Blue Ray of Frankenhooker. It will be here on Monday, which is labor day, and I can think of no way better to celebrate it. :)
blowing up the bodies for the parts you need seems very risky. like you wanna make a custom action figure, so to seperate the peices from the whole you tape firecrackers to them
Why still shots and not videos from actual movie, you think they remove it, if you do it? I might never see the movie. At least you are moving when you are talking.
zate1982 yeah, but I went to his website and they aren't moving there either. A lot of these films are in public domain, so I don't see why he doesn't use actual clips, at least on those.
Tried to be like # 666, but I had to settle for 669.....that'll work especially for this review. Thanks, I've never heard of this movie! I've already looked it up and plan to watch it this weekend. Happy Halloween James and crew!!

Lol
Thats great. Makes me miss the old video stores though. Thanks for sharing
Odd how I miss that...
Wish I was able to work at a video store
I miss that button!!

the director replied "S...you mean for 'Sexy'?"

Frankenstein's story with exploding hookers, how could you pass on that.
Sign me up!
And a pile of tits.
Dana ... i have a lot of Movie Ideas with you and me inside ; )
Intimidation need to write a captivating story? Add exploding hookers, a pile of tits, and BOOM you got a movie.
hookers,titties, Excitements!
My grandma loves this movie. She's been trying to hunt it down on DVD for years and my aunt finally found it for her. I always wondered why she loved this bizarre sounding movie so much. Now I know. Thanks, James XD
I remember watching this as a kid on USA's "Up all night" hosted by Gilbert Gottfried
mmm Rhonda Sheer

I like the reviews for this kind of movie.

3:50 you can see the player at the left top bottom, just a note :D
same on 4:31 but it's okay
ahhh yes, the top bottom!
Yup...saw it. lol
Sorry my english haha, it´s an ok mistake, but not normal in a James video.
Left top bottom....... Got it
Frankenhooker is a classic.
Frank Henenlotter was/is a genius.
It looks like a movie that has so many shitty ideas working in perfect unison, that it turns it into a good movie
I thought this low-budge film was a true classic. They used to play it every Saturday night at midnight at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles. They should bring it back!!
4:14 THE HEAD LINES UP PERFECTLY WITH THE SKULL IN THE FOREGROUND
Nice Mighty Boosh avatar
I love seeing James happy, talking about these movies that he loves. He's very passionate about films and it is conveyed very easily
Fun Fact: A person I went to Middle School with's Mom played Frankenhooker
Lmao i wonder how she explained it to her kid
+eric anklovitch She was also a Penthouse Pet so I told the person and they got in trouble with their Mom
Lightning Poops
Jeez thats actually crazy
nope it's true her name was Kate Morse and she told me her mom was an actress, so i looked her up on ImDb
Her mom had only been in two movies and she didn't know which ones?
I actually remember watching this movie on late night cable before. Never knew the title of the film before now. Thanks, James and Monster Madness!
My uncle was actually the second assistant director on this movie. He was also a production assistant on Creepshow as well as Ghostbusters 2.
You had me at exploding crack rocks. Definitely watching this.
I'm the one who knocks
*Throws explosive crack on the floor*
I love Frankenhooker, it really is often genuinely funny. Definitely one of my favourite bad movies.
omg!! this movie takes me back. saw this as a kid on hbo or something. great flic for a kid to watch! hehe
now THIS is a monster madness movie!
1:44
is that Christopher Walkens head?
That CG monster at the end is like some late cycle PS1-shit
I mean that in a good way. Well done. :)
they had this movie at the local rental store when I was young. it had A cool little button on the cover that said quotes.
I think this should've been saved for a WTF Wednesday.
It's pretty great. Hennenlotter's movies are always interesting. It's like he's trying to deconstruct the idea of filth. He's like a funnier "William Lustig" in that regard.

Hope Marry Shelly's Frankenstein movie is next.
loved frankenweenie
SHINOBI-03 HOLD YOUR TONGUE!!! They'll fuck it up!!!
It's up.
Does it have exploding hookers?
Now we wait for his review of the underrated classic Bikini Frankenstein
Come on hollywood how about we reboot this?
How have I never heard of this masterpiece?
I read the title and was like
"Is it wtf Wednesday?"
OMG James! I could never remember the title of this movie, I saw it as a kid on USA "Up all night" now I know the title. Thank you.
Finally, been waiting for hours.
I miss watching the actual footage
200 years? Already it's been that long? Dang, I've always thought it came out in 1908
This sounds godamn amazing
Oh yeah, I remember watching this movie! Thanks so much for reminding me, I have to go check it out again this Halloween!
Hammer's Dracula and Frankenstein films are some of the best films ever made of any genre, in my opinion. They're all absolutely GORGEOUS to look at! And Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing?! Come on! They're the greatest team in acting history!

I've been recommending this movie to people for 30 years! it's hilarious!!
I never knew that Freddie Mercury was so stacked 4:33
Yo James man, you gotsta start workin' on your own horror movie! YOU GOTSTA! Gather all that horror knowledge and film making skills into a horror to astonish your fans with
ill look into this movie you speak of
I mean snix
Just found this at Astronomicon 2020! Gonna watch it when I get home! We were hoping to see you here James. You should totally come next year if you’re able! My hubby did see someone from your crew here on Friday though.

Loving Monster Madness this year, but why no clips this time around?
Man I'm going to miss Monster Madness once it's gone. Always loved it and still love it. : )
I watched the similar 'Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers' yesterday - felt like a NSFW Creepshow episode.
That ending explanation perfectly summarizes my enjoyment of The Brothers Grimsby.
that god damn demon at the end always scares me
Cmon James it's all about the Monster Squad!!!
Holy shit, I gotta check this movie out. This looks awesome!
Gotta love all Frank Henenlotter's creations
3:49 Oversight or Easter Egg? He must be rushing these.
Frank H is such a nice guy. I just got an autograph from the twins in Basket Case.

Fuckin gargoyle at the end. Despite the fact that you are waiting for it, it scares the shit out of you anyway
Was this a Troma movie? Sounds like something they would do.
TheMoogleMaster thank god it's not.
TheMoogleMaster
That Hooker explosion scene would be...um...a lot more MORE if it was Troma.
Did you do Monster Sqaud?
If not then please do.
I hope he reviews Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994). I love that movie, and I'm surprised he hasn't talked about it yet.
R rateing not x or NC 17 can they pick one rateing
Lol I'm so happy you covered this one. I caught it a year or so ago on one of the digital cable movie channels and I do NOT regret watching it. Definitely one of the "terrible greats".
Just watched this movie and it's just as great as James said it was!
Looks like a wild ride of a movie. I had it on my watch list for some time now but didn't think it would be any good.
I love this movie. Truly a cult classic of mine. Lol
I just saw it, and loved it! Thanks for this review James, my type of retro movie!
Gorgeous and funny actress btw
I had the pleasure of watching it on the big screen! in an international film festival
When I heard Franken Fridays I knew this was going to be one of the ones you did.
Classic. Forgot all about it. Almost like a bigger budget Troma? IDK; it's how I'm remembering right now. Will watch again with friends.
Shit! I always forget the demon that pops out at the end of the video, it jump scares me all the time.
One of these videos he should put a Freddy Fazbear jumpscare at the end. Just to mess with the audience.
Alfonso ST
What? I thought it'd be funny. Haven't seen anything FNAF in a while.
GravekeepersMonk Don't listen to that idiot.
Noside Foxhound
Yeah. Planned to. Was just an idea. Geez.
What is that demon at the end from? I swear I've seen it in a movie but I can't remember what.
The scenery is to save money. The director would often use New York itself the way it was.
This was done in basket case as well.
if it's out there i can't find it. do you ever review Frankenstein from Penny Dreadful? or the series itself? new sub. great channel.
Can't wait for James to review Frankenstein Conquers the World.
Totally waiting for James to review "Tusk". Hmm.. it's not really a "monster movie" But the villain DOES make a monster out of the protagonist... so...kinda monster-movie-ish... but also having other elements of weirdness.
I thought it was gonna be filthy Friday, showing off exploitation films
My favorite Frankenstein movie is Frankenstein: The True Story. Not one of my friends or family has seen it or even heard of it. I've loved it, since I was a child.
It's the doorman guy from Street Trash! I love that dude!
Hey James, if you love this, you need to see director Frank Henenlotter's more recent film "Bad Biology". Just as F'd up as this film (it may be even more screwed up). Thanks for Monster Madness, I've been watching them since the beginning and love them every year.
3:06 Best part
im glad James show me interest on old classic horror films, i got myself a copy of The Wolf Man (1941) on VHS good film i love it! thanks James!

Love the demon at the end. It grows on you
4:11 4:02
Elizabeth : Want a date? Looking for some action? Need some company? Got any money?
Hope James does the "Mary Shelley" Frankenstein (1994) next Franken-Friday!
I can't believe you covered this hahahahaha
3:49
Whoops, looks like your screencap caught the timebar.
And that's not to mention the hilarious poem! 😂
I'd like to hear your opinions on Andy Warhol's Flesh for Frankenstein from 73
looks like a rad flick to check out, perfect way to enjoy on a sleezy october weekend.
Frankenhooker is definitely a must-see.
Ever since you mentioned Basket Case, I was hoping that you'd get around to this one!
Sounds hilarious. Gotta check this movie out.
so glad your doing monster madness this year
Ok I just watched this, its great! Patty Mullen is great, shame she didn't do any more. It does look like she has a great sense of humor.
I love MST3K, Rifftrax and those types of Movies that they riff. I enjoy Cinemassacre, even though I mostly consider myself a Sci-Fi nerd. the movie is on youtube. at least parts of it
But previous MM were with clips, i love James... seeing his expressions/mood/intonation is allways entertaining.
yeah seeing only pics and not clips really takes away from the enjoyment
That's why he used to post them on his website right?
zate1982 yeah, but I went to his website and they aren't moving there either. A lot of these films are in public domain, so I don't see why he doesn't use actual clips, at least on those.

This is my favorite "bad" movie
Has he done Blackenstein yet? If not, it's a MUST watch.
