babes just a tip (esp for aot) DONT LOOK UP ANYTHING, no fanfiction, no discussion of themes, even if you have doubts EVERYTHING WILL BE EXPLAINED so pls dont do it bc youre gonna get spoiled, love ya!
Manga has gotten me out of so many reading slumps in the last three months. I struggled with Fruit Baskets as well. I put it aside and read Uzumaki, Tokyo Ghoul and Death Note which made me so much happier. Can't wait to see your future manga adventures! Putting Blood On The Tracks on my TBR!
If your manga era enters a 'cry my flipping eyes out' phase, I highly recommend Orange. It's complete: 2 regular volumes and a follow-up volume called Future. It's got mild fantastical elements, but it's mostly contemporary. It is so, so good! :)
I took a Graphic Novel class in college where we read Persepolis and that memoir is SO GOOD. I even did a paper on it. That class opened my eyes up on graphic novels, and just from your video, I've been inspired to start looking in to Manga for the first time in my life. I can't wait for this journey! :)
Congratulations on the two years, but also THANK YOU for awesome two years of videos, books and laughter and really, truly inspiring for me to just live my life and truth. It's hard to explain but Just thank you 🥺💖💖
Yes!! Love manga era. 💗 Sometimes its so much fun getting out of our norms and to something different. Enjoy 😉 and yeaaa i just picked up House of Leaves for my October read. Ive seen your reaction to it lol your blog so im interested how the feels of reading will be for me lol. 😊
I definitely recommend continuing with the AoT manga. Also, if you wanna try out any manhwa (Korean) my all-time favorite is Killing Stalking … trigger warnings for everything tho
Bummed you didn't vibe with Fruits Basket! It is my absolute favorite manga, and I usually don't read Shōjo - it starts of silly cutesy weird but it very quickly becomes absolutely devastating. Some manga recs - Assassination Classroom, Uzumaki, Black Butler, Psycho-Pass, Deadman Wonderland, Erased, and Full Metal Alchemist is really fun. Naoki Urasawa has another series called 20th Century Boys that I really enjoy. Queer recs - Our Dreams At Dusk (incredible!!!!!), Our Not-So-Lonely Planet Travel Guide, Love Me For Who I Am (the diverse representation!!!), I Hear the Sunspot. ⚔
Shoujo Manga - Intended for female audiences (not necessarily romantic/sweet, but obviously moreso than Shounen) Shounen Manga - Intended for male audiences (usually teenage boys 😅 thus the action focus). Also comics/graphic novels aren't a huge distinction, and given that most individual comics get collected into graphic novel volumes, it's kind of a moot point 🤷🏻♀️ (can you tell I'm the kind of person who goes to Comic Cons? XD)
Absolutely loving this manga era, I've recently entered my manga era too! My friend is obsessed with Jujutsu Kaisen and says it keeps getting better and better. I'm obsessed with Soul Eater - Death runs a school for weapons and meisters and it's full on Halloween vibes, it's stunning. I'm about to pick up Drifting Dragons too, which might be interesting.
We are all living our best manga moments. I think that you, Jordaline, & Gabby should do a manga readathon! Recs: Mieruko-chan by Tomoki Izumi & literally everything by Junji Ito but especially Shiver!
I want you to get the ego boost when you realize you got me to read SpyxFamily before it blew up and got the show in April and now it's my new hyperfixation in the middle of it getting all this hype and new content, so thank youuu for feeding me 🗡
Yessshh finnally you start reading manga!!!! Oh Katie you must pick up Demon slayer, Chainsaw man, Parasyte and Asassination classroom, Hells paradise, Koe no katachi/a silent voice and.... Uhh i just cant remember any other titles rn. Ps. I dont know if this is right up your alley but One piece is a must! Also i know you'll love Demon slayer and Chainsaw Man so pls give it a chances (if you like Jujutsu kaisen you will adore these two). If you like horror/thriller then maybe Ajin or Alice in borderland Edit. Fruit basket is oldd old series i have not read this yet up until now but i must say if the anime, they are dope! I was crying a lot, 1st and 2nd seasons both are worth it, have not finish season 2 tho bcs i was not ready lol might start over from the begining. Anime. Recent and popular: Demon slayer Sports: Haikyu (i loveee this) Comedy: Konosuba, Mob psyco, Gintama and Grand blue (Grand blue hilarious! Gintama is a classic! Mob psyco supenatural+comedy) Sci-fi/comedy/post apocalyptic: Dr.stone Horror: Promise neverland and Ajin Slice of life/wholesome: Natsume yuujinchou/Natsume books of friends (adoreee this one), The sluggish tanaka, Yuru camp Historical/war/kingdom: The heroic legend of arslan (underrated!!) Mafia/underworld but not too dark+a hint of BL: Banana fish Bl anime: Given and Doukyuusei/classmate Movie: Violet evergarden (sad) and A silent voice Wholesome BL manga: Our dinning table, I hear the sunspot and Fangs Lgbt+/fashion manga: Boys run the riot Classic manga: Vagabond
glad to know i'm not the only one stuck in a manga/comics era right now 😂 they're pretty good as palette cleansers between novels, even when a lot can go on in some of them. jujutsu kaisen is one of my favorites, and let me just tell you-- you're in for a whole ride and i hope we get to see your reactions to the rest of it. utsubora i read earlier this year and it's.....definitely something. i'm still not sure how i feel about it lol. and i JUST started reading blue flag today and i'm already OBSESSED and i blame jordaline for it 😭⚔
Honestly me too. Gabby talked about monster so I got the first volume and I’m moving it. I’ll def finish it. And then u talked about the one with the crazy mom and it makes me wanna read it too. I might be getting into manga for sure.
okay, if you're curious, there is a japanese mystery horror novel by Yukito Ayatsuji called "Another". and it has a good anime show adaptation. also there's always Pet Shop of Horrors by Matsuri Akino [this one's a manga and there is an anime]. another good one is Psychic Detective Yakumo, it's like mystery thriller series with horror elements [there's also an anime] also since you liked battle royale [or at least its premise], i highly recommend future diary by Sakae Esuno [there are much less characters in it btw, so they get more flashed-out]. it's basically a classic and if you know you know xD [also has a very faithful anime adaptation]
KATIEEEE!! watching you enjoy manga is such a joy man. it honestly made me drop everything and continue reading manga. SCORE FOR THE HOT MANGA GIRLIES!! i'd really like to recommend wotakoi : love is hard for otaku (josei) , children of the sea (seinen) , a man and his cat (shounen) , yotsuba&! (shounen). out of these, children of the sea by daisuke igarashi is my all time rec. it's slow and confusing at first but by the end of it, i was REAL doozy. it gave me a proper existential crisis for 30 minutes to say the least. if you're up for some psychological mystery fantasy mythology type story surrounding the ocean and it's secrets, then i think you might love it. HAPPY READING MY LOVE
Even if you don’t want any Shojo - I would say pick up some Josei, particularly Sweat and Soap (and give it a couple of volumes). Also really recommend My Brothers Husband, Beastars and if you can get them second hand then I think you’ll like Ikigami (only 10 vol complete)!
⚔ I picked up my first manga in August - Spy Family (the first 2 volumes) and loved it! And I also picked up Monster because of you and Gabby (sadly my library only has the first volume) - my husband and our friend love the Monster Anime, so I have to watch that after reading it!
Katie, I love that you're in your manga era because I seem to have forgotten what books are too. I'm here to recommend my favorites, besides SpyxFamily obviously: Alice in Borderland, Atelier of Witch Hat, Children of the Whales and The Way of the Househusband (short stories) 💖⚔️
You should check out Devils line manga/ anime. Essentially a paranormal romance where a half human half devil/ vampire works as an insider with the law enforcement against devil related crimes. One of my favorites and would love to hear your thoughts about it 🥰
I specifically remember the first 2 mangas I bought. It wasn't so much the buying them. It was the experience I had reading them that made it all memorable. I think the different culture and their history brings about stories unlike what the western audience is use to reading.
🗡️🗡️ omg katie is reading my favorite manga!!😆 She didn't like it! 😭😭 Lol, the main thing about fruits basket is that it has LAYERS, its deceptively cute and gets very dark! Hoping you give it another go in the future☺️ also, it seems like you're leaning mostly towards shonen (boys) manga, so i highly recommend fullmetal alchemist!
Hi, Karie! If you want some comedy kinda manga, I would recommend Arakawa Under the Bridge and Super Radical Gag Family (this one is like a straight up stupid one and I remember I laughed way too hard during reading the series), if you feel like mystery, the Kindaichi case files! Idk if the English version of them are available or not..., but they are good ones and hope they do! Anime version of Kindaichi is so good too!
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Ordinary Monsters. I just finished it yesterday and it's my favourite fantasy of the year so far 😍. Somebody told me that the audiobook is amazing and very immersive ❤
Thank you for your amazing videos! Recommendations for manga. Completed series: ⚔Demon Slayer ⚔Judge (battle royal/hunger games vibes) ⚔Fullmetal Alchemist ⚔Hellsing (Amazing art) ⚔Claymore ⚔Dorohedoro (Chaotic and strange) ⚔Deadman wonderland - don't watch the anime it's not good. ⚔Orange ⚔Uzumaki (Art is amazing!!!!!) ⚔Chainsaw man Ongoing: My hero Academia Berserk (Read trigger warnings first) Horiyma Not a manga but a graphic novel: Something is killing the children (Amazing and ongoing)
I've never read manga but I've watched anime. I was always only interested in horror and it's interesting to see which manga you enjoy. You'll have me reading it yet!
I've been reading manga for ages and here's a variety of manga I recommend you check out to see if you're interested: Gauken Babysitters Demon Slayer The Savior's Bookcafe Story in Another World The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Under the Oak Tree Katekyo Hitman Reborn (aka Reborn!) To Your Eternity Full Metal Alchemist Soul Eater Black Butler Haikyuu Chainsaw Man Bokurano Vinland Saga Naruto Bleach One Piece Fairy Tale Berserk Horimiya Psycho Pass Almost all of these are on the highly popular and well-known side, so getting a physical copy shouldn't be difficult.
I read my very first manga in January 2021 and have become obsessed...have found so many amazing series. Loved Attack on Titan because it was such an action packed, compulsive read...I just had to know what was happening next! Fruits Basket was tough for me...I feel like the story is so unique and its interesting... but it was a slow read for me and the most easy to put down manga I've read. Glad I was able to get that one at the library. Two recs if you haven't read them and they both have great disability rep...or at least I felt seen reading them. The first is I Hear the Sunspot...easily my favorite manga of all the ones I've read and there are only 5 volumes so it's not a huge investment of time or money. The second is Perfect World...which I felt did an amazing job not only with the disability rep but also a great look at what it's like to be a caretaker for someone with a disability. Just got the last volume this month and it was absolutely amazing.
Personality I think if you do invest your time in Fruits Basket, it does become a more in-depth manga with characters of many layers. Most people think it's like a silly cute manga... BUT they don't read far enough. ALSO if you watch the New Anime make sure to watch it in Japanese ... It's better that way. But either Anime will never be as good as the manga :D
Im just going to say that Fruits Basket has some... queer moments but that manga at that time was not openly gay. So if thats an expectation, then maybe its best to try it again another time. (I do very much love that series but its not for everyone.) Also for recommendations, Wolf's Rain is short and very good.
When you get the chance, plzz check out : -Dorohedoro (gritty, gore, violent, awesome, fun, 💯👌🏽) -Goodnight PunPun (A MUST FOR YOU, LIKE ABSOLUTELY) -ChainsawMan -Vinland Saga -Fullmetal Alchemist -Berserk (arguably and said by most to be the best manga of all time and the best art in manga 🤭 RIP TO THE AUTHOR 😞) -Parasyte -Junji Ito (Uzamaki, Tomie, No Longer Human, & others) -Claymore (good female lead of characters, good dark fantasy) TRUST ME… you won’t regret any of these 😷
I fell into the Sweat and Soap hole this month because my library had the entire series. It's really cute and the fact that I don't have to spend $100+ to read it, even better! Spy x Family has been my only 5-star manga, but currently in the middle of Blood on the Tracks, which I buy one a month. I wish they had more dialogue and plot because there is only so many close-ups I can take, it's beautiful but more action please! 😂
Can u do a vid on how u annotated house of leaves, or at least list it here bc I’ve finally got it and wanna annotate but idk where to start for that one
Monster is amazing! But the rest of naoki urasawas works are just as good, Pluto, 20tg century boys and asadora!. Asadora! Is brilliant, it's a really charming story.
Ok i am really suspicious now. Because I started collecting manga before reading HoL but at a very REASONABLE pace. But I read HoL and now I have been reading a lot of manga? And I may have spent a disgusting amount of money just buying manga yesterday?
⚔️ I would like to recommend Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura because I don't want you to give up on Shojo and maybe you didn't like fruit basket because is a normal romance/drama but if you are more interested in shonen I am also obligated to recommend One Piece and JoJo's bizarre adventure
Katie, I wrote this on your last video too but I have T1D and think you should read “And There He Kept Her” because of the diabetes representation! How can I send u the audio book on Audible? Can anyone who sees this tell me where to find her PO Box info and if anyone can help me out by telling me how to send an audiobook, I would appreciate it😂😉
🗡⚔️You should look into Yuri on Ice. They ate a bunch if cute gay ice skaters lol. Idk if they have a Manga but it's an amazing anime!!! (Also I walk 2 1/2 miles to work and back almost daily lol, but your videos get me thru.)
babes just a tip (esp for aot) DONT LOOK UP ANYTHING, no fanfiction, no discussion of themes, even if you have doubts EVERYTHING WILL BE EXPLAINED so pls dont do it bc youre gonna get spoiled, love ya!
Yesss I'm so here for your manga era! And also, omg that first book you read in this video sounds so cute! Those quotes were beautiful damn.
Right?! It’s so sweet.
We are both in a manga/graphic novel era and I’m living for this for us
I AM LOVING YOUR MANGA ERA🔥!!! Monster, JJK, & AOT are all amazing!!!!🗡
I've never been a manga person but watching you and Gabby reading so many mangas lately, it's making me want to pick up some manga, especially Monster
My niece just found JJK on my shelves, and she now has the same energy you do for it! This is great 😃

I am LIVING for this Manga era. It's so fun seeing you have fun? >< 🗡
I am home feeling very sick and watching your videos makes me happy. I ordered Manga from Amazon and I can't wait to get them in my hands

I've loved manga since 2010 when I read my first series it was "fruits basket"..the alien book looks so cute and touching to check out
YES!! Attack on Titan & Monster are the best of the best. I loved both with my entire being. Both of them also have topnotch anime adaptations 😌
I definitely recommend continuing with the AoT manga. Also, if you wanna try out any manhwa (Korean) my all-time favorite is Killing Stalking … trigger warnings for everything tho

⚔ Here for this era ⚔

I think I need to read Monster and Blue flag, Deathnote and basically everything else Katie mentioned in this video ⚔️😂

ALSO it's complete at 5 volumes. it's absolutely criminal how underrated it is
I want 'Fanfiction is soup for the soul' merch now 🤣
Blue Flag is now on my list for my next visit to the local comic book store, looks good.

Dorohedoro, Vinalnd Saga and Slam Dunk are a must read.
Highly recommend Tokyo Revengers! Time travel, gangs, drama, romance, plot twists, perfect pacing!
Okay but I've been wanting to get back into manga so this is perfect timing!
I specifically remember the first 2 mangas I bought. It wasn't so much the buying them. It was the experience I had reading them that made it all memorable. I think the different culture and their history brings about stories unlike what the western audience is use to reading.
"OMG This is my fantasy!!" HAHAH GURL SAME hahahaha
🗡️🗡️ omg katie is reading my favorite manga!!😆
She didn't like it! 😭😭
Lol, the main thing about fruits basket is that it has LAYERS, its deceptively cute and gets very dark!
Hoping you give it another go in the future☺️ also, it seems like you're leaning mostly towards shonen (boys) manga, so i highly recommend fullmetal alchemist!
I'm finally reading Heartstopper (I'm about to start vol 3) and I plan to read some Junji Ito next! ⚔
Loving the manga era!
Also Glasgow is pronounced Glaz-go 🥰🖤
Fullmetal alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa
7:06 - I hope you like Fruits Basket. I believe it's a very good Manga, especially when it comes to the development of the characters.
The End of Men “Oh my god this is my fantasy” 😂😂
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Ordinary Monsters. I just finished it yesterday and it's my favourite fantasy of the year so far 😍. Somebody told me that the audiobook is amazing and very immersive ❤

I read my very first manga in January 2021 and have become obsessed...have found so many amazing series. Loved Attack on Titan because it was such an action packed, compulsive read...I just had to know what was happening next!

I love Attack on Titan. Will have to check out Death Note 🗡️
First: Not me adding every manga you mentioned in my tbr 🥲 and Second: WHY NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST! I’m upset 🤣🤣
Claymore is a completed set of manga that revolves around female warriors and monstrous entities. I think you'd really like it
You're going to love the Attack on Titan show!! It's so damn good.
When you get the chance, plzz check out :
-Dorohedoro (gritty, gore, violent, awesome, fun, 💯👌🏽)
-Goodnight PunPun (A MUST FOR YOU, LIKE ABSOLUTELY)
-ChainsawMan
-Vinland Saga
-Fullmetal Alchemist
-Berserk (arguably and said by most to be the best manga of all time and the best art in manga 🤭 RIP TO THE AUTHOR 😞)
-Parasyte
-Junji Ito (Uzamaki, Tomie, No Longer Human, & others)
-Claymore (good female lead of characters, good dark fantasy)
TRUST ME… you won’t regret any of these 😷
I fell into the Sweat and Soap hole this month because my library had the entire series. It's really cute and the fact that I don't have to spend $100+ to read it, even better! You're not ready for the masterpiece that is Attack On Titan.
Are you Webtooning on the side during this manga era? Will you watch any anime of the manga you've read?

Ok i am really suspicious now. Because I started collecting manga before reading HoL but at a very REASONABLE pace. But I read HoL and now I have been reading a lot of manga? And I may have spent a disgusting amount of money just buying manga yesterday?

I would like to recommend Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura because I don't want you to give up on Shojo and maybe you didn't like fruit basket because is a normal romance/drama but if you are more interested in shonen I am also obligated to recommend One Piece and JoJo's bizarre adventure
Katie, I wrote this on your last video too but I have T1D and think you should read “And There He Kept Her” because of the diabetes representation! How can I send u the audio book on Audible?
