    Omnisphere is absolutely mighty, and it's quite easy to overlook a lot of its more powerful features. In this series I break the synth down into functional areas, examining how it all fits together.
    About me:
    My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
    My channel is these things:
    1. A place to share my songs - via various 'Back on Track' video series - in which you'll see each song idea evolve step-by-step, with me (hopefully!) improving my song-writing skills as we go.
    2. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
    I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
    All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase.
    I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

      Yeah, this is a lot better than reading a manual! We need to know exactly that these knobs, like “analog,” are doing. And this explains it exactly, with visual feedback.

    Thanks so much!! I have Omnisphere for years and can get around on it fairly well but have never gone deep under the hood and went searching. Even in this beginner video I've learned something I didn't know. Someone on reddit recommended your channel for Omnisphere for really getting to know it :)

    These videos are absolutely fantastic! I don’t even own Omnisphere yet, but the series is worth watching purely for learning the fundamentals of synthesis. The use of the oscilloscope and the first principles style in which you explain what’s happening with each control make each concept easy to grasp while being succinct and comprehensive.

    I like that the interface is not gimmicky, to sell to the plugin-kids, but rather seems like a real workhorse tool. This “layer” screen seems quite simple, for those of us who have played synthesizers for decades. Makes a lot of sense…get the basics right! 👍

    Thank you so much for these video tutorials. I was so impressed with the quality of the first and second one that I joined as a member. Thank you for the perks! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your music. That is the exact style of music I can see myself creating, and am leaning towards. I fell in love with Ambient 432Hz music put out by Theta Brainwaves and others who produce lucid dreaming music and music to facilitate an out of body experience. I'm pretty sure Omnisphere is going to be a blessing for me. If anything can help me develop my own style, it's Omnisphere and the way you teach it. Finding you was a major turning point for me. I'm going to fly through your videos, so I can get busy creating music at a more efficient pace. Ideas are oozing from my brain and I can't wait to know this program thoroughly.

    I use Renoise and just got Omnisphere. I seem to be grasping it fairly quickly as I watched some of your tutorials before getting it, and they helped me out a bit.
    For years while using Renoise, I had been building my own instruments often using some kind of waveform synthesis, which I've always referred to as "Wave-Shaping Synthesis." I would draw up/generate various waveforms, store them as single-cycle waveform samples, and call them by different unique names.

      @OneManAndHisSongs  2 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad my videos helped :) Yeah, wave-shaping is a really interesting synthesis method. Omnisphere is the best of the hybrid synths of this type I've seen so far

    I have two oscillators using the same saw wave, no analog, no phase, and detuned +/- 1 cent from each other. The sound starts big and wide then eventually closes in, as the detuned nature of the oscillators reach the crossing of their phases. Is there a way for the sound to stay big and wide without hearing the movement of phasing?

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  23 дня назад

      If they have different wavelengths, then they're going to shift with respect to eachother, and at some point cancel out. That's just a function of what you've done. If you don't want that, you could: 1. Set the pitches identical and manually offset each osc's phase. That way you're getting multiple copies of the wave with fixed phase. 2. You could try Unison mode, which also employs oscillator copying 3. Cheat, and use a Chorus effect, which gives you the detuned effect but doesn't sound as "phasey"

      Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely revisit my settings and see if I need to tweak them. I do work a few videos in advance so please bear with me if I need to make any adjustments.
      There are so many different quality metrics for me to keep track of, something always seem to be escaping :)
