    Hope all is well health wise.. Sending prayers.. Everything looks great and you have happy chickens : ) We use that green fabric over their enclosed run and it brings the temp down bigtime! Night and day! We get so hot that I would cover the whole chicken outside area with it in the summer but luckily we have trees covering half of our chicken area.. They hang out under the trees and avoid the sunny areas all together when the heat is up. I love your ideas about keeping it cool.. I saw your other video about this and I will start freezing blocks of ice for their water feeders.

      Hey! Yes those tarps are cute and do make a big difference. I do like that they’re sheer so rain and breeze can still get through. And we have trees on part of the run too, plus the misters and pool and ice and multiple water buckets… lots of things to keep them cool and safe!

    wonder where you were. I hope your son will be okay, and you too. love all the plants. I am going to put some vines over the summer chicken run, ofcourse fenced off to prevent death by chicken. one is a hummingbird honeysuckle, dont remember name, another are climbing hydrengea with red variagation, and a small seven son tree. it only gets about as big as a lilacs I have in my yard. hope your plan works out to keep them cool, for us we dont hit 90 but a coupld of weeks each summer and not all the same week, I have a ton of shade and I free range so they can find the darkest shade (usually under the shed) and of course they get plenty of water and cool treats too.

      Hey thanks so much. We are hopeful for the future but still in the trenches for now. ❤️☀️ I’m excited for your plants too!

    Could you put a shade cloth over your coop? I'm probably going to add one this year over my coop along with a fan running on the inside of the coop to circulate more air, plus multiple waterers. I had a chicken pass away last year on an 83 degree day so now I'm super paranoid

      Oh my gosh I’m so sorry. And yes I’ve thought about doing a reflective tarp above the coop! They do get shade from the trees and they have the fans too, but I might do one of those this year too!

    I’m so sorry to hear about your current medical situation. Always always sending you tons of good Juju Sarah 💜🦄💜
    Also I get that people are concerned about the rocks in your run but if they watched your videos, they would know that you previously addressed it.
    I told my husband about peat Moss and cheap top soil and he immediately went out and got me two bags!! Lol! Haven’t had a spare minute to implement the fillers yet but I think I will do it today.
    The babies are getting huge! I thought I lost them last week but I was able to nurse them back to good health! (My boys were not paying attention to them in the brooder 😢😢 but I was bawling my eyes out and that woke them up!)
    No new coop yet. Trying to get a new car but hopefully we get it started soon!
    💜🦄💜🦄💜

      Hey my friend! Thanks for the love. And yes I’ve been chewed out and called all kinds of names for the horrible abuse of my hens in a run with rocks 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄 which I understand but at the same time, doing what I can here on my own… but I’m glad it’s being taken care of now and those damn things won’t be growing back! 😄
      And I’m so proud of you for saving the little brooder babies! See you do a great job. They felt your love and they’re gonna be fine. I can’t wait to hear about the new setup! (And the car, woo hoo!)

    Mama how do keep your outside run healthy. I Have an 8x12 covered run with sand. And also a 12 x20 outside pen on grass with baby pool and an ez up canopy on half of the pen. But the grass is starting to die which I kind of expected but do I have to clean the poop out of this run too?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 года назад

      Hey! I wouldn’t worry about it. I mean it wouldn’t be a bad idea to rake it around but if you don’t have a problem with flies or ammonia smell, I wouldn’t worry about it!

    Does peat moss get muddy? Is mulch better? Thank you in advance. I trust your advice

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 года назад

      Hey! I love peat moss and it is crazy absorbent. So literally unless you have inches of standing water, the peat moss will hold in the water much better and not leave the run soggy and muddy. And then it dries out and is ready to go again! I did a whole video on it or you can see more of it online but we love it. It smells good, is good for the environment, is soft, and awesome! Like I said the only downside is that it can cost a bit if you need to cover a huge area. Mulch could also work but wood doesn’t absorb nearly as much, so it’s almost like they’re each for a different purpose.

    Not going well with my girls. Lost one, first a cough which I took care of, but she died anyway. My favorite little girl a Barnevelder passed away this morning. She started layer eggs with a rough shell. I tried but she died quickly. My other girl laying soft shelled eggs. I give them oyster shell and ground up egg shells. I’m really upset. At one time I had 100 hens. Never had these problems. Constant problems ever said I got them. NEVER from Myer hatchery again. Anyone have any suggestions about the soft shell eggs I’d appreciate it

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 года назад +1

      Oh no!!! Honey I’m so very sorry and so very sad for you. For the soft shells I’d give her plain Greek yogurt (no flavor and no sugar) every day. It’s fun to watch and the probiotics plus the calcium can really help. I also throw in things like GrubTerra or sunflower seeds. I’d do plain water only (no additives like ACV). If I can help more my friend just email me theMama@realsimplemama.com
