Do it. My grandfather flew B-24s, and this series was incredible. It helped me better understand what he went through, and gave me an even deeper respect for these brave men. ❤
Totally agree about the series. I loved it so much that I read the book (of the same name) which is one of the books the series is based on. It goes into much more detail and covers a whole range of additional subject matter - including topics that continue to be relevant to today's world and transcend the realm of warfare. For anyone who enjoyed the TV series, and wants to go next level, the book is also unreservedly recommended. P.S. There are also some very good military history channels on RUclips that focus on WW2 aviation history that are worth searching out.
@@emilgilelsHey do you perhaps have any recommendations for youtube channels? I’ve been in love with the series since January and am hooked on the book right now. Would love to check some out!
It's no Band of Brothers or the Pacific, but it was beautifully done and well made. Wish the hadn't wasted so much time on unnecessary stuff like Crosby's affair, but for what it was it was excellent
@@gentlegiggle The channel "WWII US Bombers" does very good, detailed fact-based video essays. He did a bunch of videos about the B-17 in the past few months kind of in response to Masters of the Air being broadcast. Once you watch a few of his vids, other WW2 aviation vids will no doubt start showing up in your feed. ;-)
Masters of the Air isn't as cohesive a story and "instant classic" as Band of Brothers, or The Pacific, but my lord it does a good job of showing just how deadly being up in the air was. The losses the air force suffered were horrific.
Personally only watched it because of Holliday Grainger from the strike tv show, I do love British crime shows though, recently finished Karen Pirie and it was excellent, three 90 minute episodes it kept the pace going. I’ll give season 2 a watch
These talented Britons coming over here and taking our jobs are doing a really good job. No complaints from me. Boy was nervous. Got red in the face. 😆
“Have you met the pope” 😂. Seen that all night and it’s funny every time. I hope that flex perpetuates. Watched masters of the air. Very powerful, very well done, very good show
You realize one of the four main characters is one of the most famous and decorated B-17 pilots of WWII, right? Paul Tibbets even referred to Robert Rosenthal as a legend. That should tell you something.
I really wish they would have devoted more screen time to the Tuskegee Airmen. I had the honor of meeting one of them in the late 90's and he was still standing tall yet so humble. The sad thing was that he was initially thinking that I was playing around about wanting to thank him and shake his hand since I was a young white woman.
@@HAL_9000__ - From a press tour it is. Welcome to the streaming age, everyone watched it already. Heck, even Colbert looks confused as to why this interview is happening. Since, there is no reason to promote a series that premiered six months ago. This is not a reflection on Callum Turner personally, but his management team and AppleTV. He should fire whoever booked his interview.
My only regret about the series is that the filmmakers could have shown more respect to their allies who experienced similar casualties flying bombers during the war, rather than depicting them as toffy nosed punching bags. Most (including my father) were working or middle class who had a lot of respect for the Americans. That said, it is an incredible series. I highly recommend it.
Considering Callum Turner’s character is a complete meathead who gets into drunken bar fights with everyone, I do not see how he would have been respectful of anyone, let alone the British. Also, the series refuses to acknowledge that the majority of the episodes take place within a three/four-month span of 1943. From my understanding, apart from Crosby’s interactions with ranking RAF officers (who were aristocratic) at Oxford, the rivalry between USAAF and RAF was during 1942. The 100th did not even exist yet, so that bar fight is based off something that happened to other airmen.
@@ChienaAvtzon It doesn't worry me that they don't have timelines exactly right, or that they dramatise to make the show more entertaining. And there would have been fights between the different nations, no doubt. But given there aren't many stories told of these young men, it would be good if they could show more of the real people who flew for allies. I feel that the English always get stereotyped as posh and the Australians as larrikins (which there was no doubt examples of each). On a positive note, I did like the character of the Chief Mechanic. No complaints that they didn't show the Lancasters flown by RAF or told their stories. This was a series about the USAF. Just wish they could depict the flying men of their allies better.
@@brettmoffitt8223 - As an American, I found the bar fight scene in Ep.2, reflected more poorly on the Americans. Specifically, Cleven and Egan who instigated the fight instead of hearing the RAF pilots out. And yes…. the mechanic was great. Loved his relationship with those British children, and how he tried to protect them from seeing the devastation of war. He should have been featured in the coda, at the end.
His accent has definitely shifted a little across the Atlantic in recent years. Great actor though, I’m delighted to see his success in films recently.
Except for the ending being a bit too Disney happy-endy 10/10 series. Whatched it 3 times just to show it to friends and family. The characters portrayed stayed withe for a long time after.
I have three electric aviation pioneering achievements under my cap. Produced the first official indoor airshow with electric remote controled plane in the Kingdom i late 1999. I towed a banner with a twin engine electric rc plane with my own design for a "remove during flight" tow apparatus in orep for towing the National Flag during that Allstar Baseball Gsme in 2001. I cancelled the idea after 911. The third thing is classified. Sometimes, impossible just takes someone with brains and gut to get ahold of it. We know what to do.
Just finished watching it right now. Those closing credits with the photographs and stories of the actual men was incredibly moving. It breaks my heart that these men have all passed away. They didn’t get to see this amazing series for themselves. 🫡🇺🇸
Their is scene in the series. P-51 hands down best fighter of WW2. Hahahahaha. P-51 pilots were disgusted by propellers in their brevuets when they flewed Me-262's. Real American knowledge.
Curious why i ever had to pay for movie tickets or for music. Really abisive exploitative and slave like story and i hope they can figure out snthg else.
Finally he's gettin the recognition he deserves, love the show and this man is a Star, i hope he gets the Emmy nomination ❤🙌🏻🤞🏻
Except, his performance deteriorates throughout the series. There is nothing awards worthy about it.
My father was a B-17 co-pilot in world war 2. I really need to watch this series.
Mine also. 524th Sq.

You should watch it. It might have some bad CGI, but it really has a good story about what happens with the B-17 during the European Campaign.
Highly recommend MASTERS OF THE AIR - Outstanding.

Amazing series! Just stunning photography!
That is an outstanding series, and he did a great job.

He reminds me of James Norton, another great British actor

Despite its fault, Master of the Air does showcase the much lesser known individuals of strategic bombing in WW2.

There's a recent Apple tv remake of it with him, Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan and few others.
