@@rock2k14 Oh, don't worry though! See, SE has been soooooo kind and thoughtful as to release remasters! On Mobile and Steam! Again! When they already have them! Isn't that just so kind of them!? Seriously though, I've seen so many people pissed off about that announcement. People have been wanting 1-6 on switch, PS4/5, and XBox for years. Instead, they release them where most people aren't going to buy them, if they already have the other versions... I wouldn't be surprised if they do badly, and then SE turns around and says "well, we HAD planned on releasing them on console. But because they did badly on Steam and Mobile, we figured it wouldn't be worth it." They did that with fans wanting a new Chrono game, so it wouldn't surprise me at all...

This game shines the most on its skills, abilites and techniques you'll learn by grinding. I Used to master all as i remember.. like combining two abilities to unlock a special technique etc. e.g. Defend+lounge = defensive lounge then grinding that skill to unlock a special technique that utilizes that move.. Super fun

@@vhalrougelarfouxe Oh god yes. The game has quite a few feels. Pretty much the whole Liem chapter, Fyda and Royd's goodbye, the avalanche scene... and of course the ending, I also still get a bit teary eyed every time I see that ending and credit roll.
It's rare I get emotional over video games, even games that are meant to be emotional, but man... kind of blows my mind a little how much that game hits you, considering how 'basic', for a lack of a better term, it really is.

  • @peacockfilletsteak
    @peacockfilletsteak 3 года назад +6

Storywise, I've always thought of this game as "side-quests: the game". But those "side quests" are actually the whole point. You progress by engaging with the characters and taking part in the smaller stories. This allows you to further build the world and see more of the story. You don't even always do anything to progress a story segment, sometimes just happening to see it and be there. BUT your role as the main character is to rebuild the world and revive the mana tree in doing so. Each character with whatever struggle they're having is a part of that. So in essence, the side quests ARE the main quest. Once you get that in your mind, the game is much more enjoyable from a story perspective. It just doesn't play out like any RPG story you're used to, because it's really not all about your character! It's about everyone. You just happen to be the one putting it all together.

The game just felt like one sidequest after another to me. Was a bit off-putting at first, but the world and music were so good that I really didn't mind. Also, the characters and all their little quirks are so memorable. The battle system feels pretty clunky. I ended up using the downward diagonal (directional input) rising attack all the time since it had almost instant recovery.

Will definitely be grabbing it. Back in my childhood this game was so rare. We had to scour for two copies of it as the first one we grabbed froze at boot up and the second one froze shortly after. So we'd use copy #2 to start the game and switch the disk after getting in game. I've beaten it, but not with a 100% clear. If you consider when it came out the game was a masterpiece. Also you can play as a second character, not just a pet. If I remember... you just need to make a second save file and an npc in the first town "pretty sure you have a quest to find him really early on" allows you to import the other players character into the game.

Best game I ever played on PS1.
The thing I like the most here is that there are tons of equipment you can choose from and each equipment type has its own set of skills. You can also learn all the skills in one playthrough.
I've been searching for a game that is similar to this, and haven't found any so far.

I still play it every few years, exploring what skill combo can lead to what "ultimate" is very fun, especially I had forgotten how to get them

I played through the game like 3 times. One thing that bugged me is that story friends didnt seem to scale or keep their levels, so co op completely breaks when the MC has a 50 level advantage.

best soundtrack and music of its time, so much nostalgia!
The way the story progresses very much like a fairy tale book, where you had many different stories packed into one single book. Granted, the stories won't be as complicated as a standard RPG, but its more like you are the 3rd person point of view, whereby the NPC of the quest is the main character in their respective quests.

I remember playing this game when I was like 10yo. but my smol gamer brain can't figure out a lot of this since it was the times before online guides was a thing. I have dreamed of being able to play this game for sooooooo long. I'm 30yo now. and finally get a chance to play this game again. I remember the crafting and monster taming was very in depth (or too complicated at the time). I am very excited to get play this one. I have it downloaded and ready to play. I have the weekend free. and can't wait to dive into nostalgia :)

I'm 31, and played LoM around a similar time as you, this game had immense gamefaq and gamewinners guides. this was actually the hayday of online .txt strategy guides

The art somehow reminds me of Maplestory. I truly loved that game. Might try this one out cause of the art.

I love everything about the mana series except for the battle system. When I heard it was getting remastered, I was crossing my fingers so they would remove the loooooong startup for battle techniques. The worst thing was waiting to fill up your gauge only to miss because the enemy moved about 30 seconds ago when you first started the tech. Other than that small thing, this game was amazing. Music, art and story.

There are quite a few visually appealing games that have been releasing lately. I think my Wish List has room for another JRPG.

Ohh. The memories.. wrecking the mobs in Nightmare mode alongside L'arc and me spamming my OP magic on the side..
Unlocking all the Supermove for each weapon is a blast also my favorite is Bow and it's ultra powerful Laser Beam. 😁

It’s cool that this spin off from the mana series is getting a remake and world wide release. Now if they would only bring Dawn if Mana to the switch
