- VTTBOTS! Retro Hollywood explores Irwin Allen's longest running series - 110 episodes - and the top five episodes.
I found this list a struggle to do as I think 101 of the 110 episodes are good (only nine stinkers). I am not suggesting that VTTBOTS is as intelligent as Star Trek TOS or Outer Limits TOS but it should not be compared to those shows!
VTTBOTS is a sight and sound wonder and, just like The Time Tunnel (1966), apart of all that is Irwin Allen: The Showman!
Sometimes, all it takes for a VTTBOTS episode to be good is a few great music cues and some nutty monster that also did time on Lost In Space TOS.
To those less familiar with the show this all might sound a bit hard to connect to? Well don't worry too much about it. I might suggest watching all Irwin Allen TV shows and movies and, after a while, you will understand that there a single mind (Allen) behind all these productions.
Be it be The Night the Bridge Fell Down (1983) or City Beneath the Sea (1971) - they are all Irwin! Enjoy!
THE Stu Oz! What a privilege to finally find the Ace Fan. Have enjoyed your support for Voyage and other Irwin Shows for some time. And yes, I was surprised to learn that at least one commentator was dissing Cyborg. I had been under the impression that many have found it to be a special episode. Its a key favorite here to be sure.
Thanks for the kind words about me. In screening order, The Cyborg was the first VTTBOTS episode with a fantastical comedic element (thanks to Victor Buono) so perhaps it was just too different for some? Whatever, you and I love it!
I watched the 'Cyborg' today funnily enough and I was thinking, 'How the hell are they going to get out of this one!' this was one of the best ones with 'The Phantom' the best, this was David Hedison's favourite too. Great stuff!😉
Thanks for watching. David Hedison loved the sequel The Return of the Phantom because it allowed him to perform more and speak like Alfred Ryder. In interviews he just calls it "The Phantom" but I think he means The Return..... Thanks again.
Loved this show in my early teens and it took forever but eventually all the DVDs came out.
@@ConfusedPufferFish-fq4ji Thanks for watching my video
All White Man Navy. Smoking on a Sub always fun. Coffee always hot. The Navigator SKI stole the scenes he was in. Lot of charisma in his Smile.
Thanks. Yes, the Admiral was smoking a lot in season one. In later seasons he smoked less as America finally got wise about lung cancer. Yes, SKI was great, am told he (Del Monroe) was nice in real life. RIP SKI. Thanks for watching. PS cold coffee stinks.
I'm rewatching a lot of the episodes as I come across them on RUclips. Am tempted to buy the DVD boxset. There's a certain old world charm about the series. At times you have to wonder what Admiral Nelson was thinking as he seems to make a stupid decision or put himself or the crew in danger and the episode kicks off. Still great fun to watch them over again having vague memories of watching them as a child.
"Old world charm" - I like that, well said. I think that nails it. The DVD box set is well worth getting. High quality picture and sound for all 110 episodes. And unseen interviews of David Hedison in 1995. Thanks for watching. Stu.
Just to say that the ones Richard Basehart liked the most was 'Cyborg' and 'Mutiny' which I must say I am surprised that one wasn't on your list as it is one of the very best episode's of them all, the acting from Richard was just amazing!
Thanks for watching. Mutiny was great I agree. There were so many episodes I wanted to include in my Top 5. So many great episodes!!!
At first I thought this list was going to be a joke, but in fact it was quite enlightening.
Thanks for watching. Not totally sure why you thought it was going to be a joke (was it my blunt comment about Seaquest at the start?) but I am glad you found the video enlightening.
And Five Of Us Are Left. Another classic one
Yes indeed
My favorite episode is the one where the sub rocks violently from side to side and the crew members are thrown back and forth.
In other words you like every episode. Thanks for watching.
My Top 5:
1. Man of 1,000 Faces
2. The Day the World Ended
3. Leviathan
4. The Mark of the Beast
5. The Plant Man
I tended to like episodes written by William Welch and directed by Harry Harris. The fact that their names were both alliterative made it easier for me to remember them. I also realized as a teenager that in any episode written by Rik Vollerts, Captain Crane would be captured.
Your Top 5?
Man of Many Faces is a series favourite of many. Leviathan is in my top TEN. The Plant Man is fun but it sort of runs out of punch half way into it. Great list. I love William Welch - he did some great Time Tunnels. Four more VTTBOTS videos going up on this channel next year. Stu.
Victor Buono is always good value.
Yes, he was good value. Sad that he died young, and according to Lee Merewether (on the Batman set) - he predicted he would die young!
@@StuartRaweakaStuOz I didn't know that, but he was a bit on the big side and that may have played on his mind a bit. He was also younger than he looked, which is common in character actors.
He also played a villain on Wild Wild West.
@@earlleeruhf3130 He did a Jack Lord Hawaii Five O as well
For me it Escape From Venice where Crane learns the code to a special device but is captured before he can get back, spoiler it’s a musical tune
The music for that episode was by Nelson Riddle, who worked with Frank Sinatra. And Riddle also scored the Batman 1966 TV series.
@@StuartRaweakaStuOz Thank you 🙏
We're with you. CYBORG is great.
Thanks for watching. I am amazed the www.vttbots.com website trashed The Cyborg. Both reviewers did it. Glad you can see the magic of the episode. Thanks
I played Kowalski in the school-play, in '76!
Kowalski was a good character. I was watching Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea in 1976 (reruns).
Right on, on that! Kowalski was quite the character. My granny's stuffed swivel chair was our Flying Sub seat when we were either the Admiral or the Captain in flight. I want another like it.
Sounds like fun
Dont forget the great 1961 movie
@@user-sq4jz9up6g never forget that
The episodes of the mummy, the lobster man and the puppets with Vincent Price were very good also.
Vincent Price and the Mummy shows were outstanding. The Lobster was fun but not as good as Price/Mummy. Thanks for watching
@@StuartRaweakaStuOz And do not forget the one about a leprechaun!
@@jorgelopez-pr6dr I did a whole four minute video on the Leprechaun episode.
Loved the one with Vincent Price
@@55Quirll a classic
There are a few season one episodes that were well written.
Thanks for watching. Yes indeed season one had some well written episodes (the pilot, Ghost of Moby Dick, The Enemies, The Condemned, The Sky is Falling, etc).
THE 1961 MOIVE WAS
SILLY.......
THE SERIES MADE A
EPISODE THAT WAS
A REMAKE....BUT WITHOUT THE
NONSENSE OF THE
1961 GOOFY FLICK!!
CHECK IT OUT 😁😉
Thanks for watching my video. Without the 1961 movie there would never have been a 1964 TV series. No TV series of 1964 had the budget to create all those massive Seaview miniatures and sets. That is how I look at the situation. Thanks again.
Stu Thank you for the defense of the movie, too. Irwin's critics have been all over it in the past, but it seems to be enjoying a Renaissance of favorable observation in many other arenas now thanks to Internet. A great, edge of seat action movie covering so many bases.
Sea quest is better!!!
Thanks for watching. I also did a video on SeaQuest DSV and decided that series was "hit and miss". Stu.
