Pen makes no sense. Kawhi went to the raptors and won a championship within 1 year. Why would the clippers not expect him to be able to do something with an actual star next to him
Bro you know what all needed to happen for the raptors to win that ring😂? U do realise kahwi missed alot of games that season and the team was still good without him. KD and Klays injuries helped alot as well
I hate the inconsistency between people that slander the trades that made sense at the time that didnt work due to various reasons but dont want to call some players busts. Hypocrisy
At that time I’m making that trade Kawhi was arguably the best player in the league coming off of a title run and Pg was top 3 in MVP votes Injuries suck I did believe the clippers could have won in the bubble but blew a 3-1 lead.
Once they got the 3-1 lead the bubble is no excuse they were good enough to go up 3-1 and I believe in every last single game they had a chance to close out ,they were up double digits in game 5,6,and 7 I never thought kawhi was better than lebron that season
He is different. In a good way. 😊 been consistently himself for the entire time I've watched him. Unique, well backed up takes. Admits when he is wrong after emotions settle.. and changes when info changes etc.. He has years of videos you can check out on his channel Pensare basketball, to see this clearly.
Presti fleeced the Clips. This was a disastrous trade. Paul George disappears in the playoffs and never led his teams into the Finals as the Alpha. Kawhi, despite winning a title, was constantly injured, not playing many games per season and fell out with the Spurs showing he had character flaws. Presti is a smart, very calculated man. He saw the Clips picture and his picture. His vision is better.
The Clippers had one of the best non-superstar rosters of all time. They were a Superteams’ paradise. They kept Pat Bev, Zubac, Lou Will, and Trey Harrel. And you add to that Finals MVP Kawhi who was arguably the best player in the game in 2019 AND PG who was giving you 27ppg next to Russ. The only reason anybody questioned that trade was because they thought they just got PG. That team had too much talent not to win. They choked year one, then they lost two of their 6th man of the year candidates and started falling apart. Shai was a 10 ppg rookie. There was no reason not to do that trade.
The WORST trade ever was the warriors traded with the Boston Celtics. The Warriors got Joe Barry Carroll, and the Celtics got Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale, which is the worst trade in history.
As a okc fan when I saw the trade happen I thought the clippers were making a big mistake in trading sga it was clear he was gonna be an all star caliber player one day and was the only reason I was okay with trading Paul George
Kawhi was traded from a small market (SA) to a big market (TOR) Then he wanted to go home to LA, So he "kicked out" a future Toronto born Star from his home, to a small market (OKC), and setup a possible dynasty. The Clippers curse is a real.
I was saying the Clippers should’ve kept SGA. He was balling against the Warriors in the playoffs the year before the trade. I was surprised no one saw the potential in him.
@@KB-qk1ic For a rookie you could see the potential and IQ there, is my point. I said at the time they’ll regret giving up SGA in that trade. Lou Will, Patrick Beverley and Doc Rivers said the same.
I didn't think it was a good trade either. SGA and draft picks aside, I just always felt it would fall short of what was expected no matter how good they played in the regular season. And Penn made a great point, Sam Presti wanting SGA for PG at that point in time was definitely a red flag. I used to say the same thing about Danny Ainge. Slippery devils they are.
While i did feel OKC overpaid for PG and I'm usually against a franchise giving up half of their roster for 1 player, Pen's argument comes off as purely speaking with hindsight. SGA had potential, but he did not come out of those playoffs in LA looking like a future all-star. The narrative after that first round exit was how impressive Lou Williams and Montrez looked against the warriors. No team would have turned away Leonard that season in giving up a rookie averaging 10/3/3 and 3 non top 10 picks for 2 top 10 players in the league.
This is was not the worst trade when OKC still has yet to make it to the NBA finals and win, and SGA still hasn’t become an MVP like Durant and Russ were to that team

@shadic4977 and they were a Kawhi shot off from losing to Philly. Then, in the finals, KD and Klay got injured on their way to a 3peat

Let’s be honest everybody said it was an overpay at the time but it was a deal they “had to make”
The Clippers themselves admitted it was an overpay. They were desperate to make headlines.
Paul George is a key reason for the peak of the clippers postseason success (wcf appearance) so I can't say the worst trade in nba history
It could only be considered the worst trade because of how the clippers blew their biggest opportunity and then injuries finished them off
The clippers were getting two injury prone players, from two different teams, but were sending all their capital to one team.
