    I owned the 4880 Massey in this pull from 1992-2002 one of my favorite tractors. Sold it to my Brothers in 2002, they sold to Mark Back in 2004 and a couple years ago Mike Webster bought it and still owns it. We do repairs on it when need and that is rarely. Good tractor. My nephew Derek Wood has one just like it also. At the age of 12 and 13 Me and my brother Kevin pulled the sled back at the Ripley county fair with a new one that my grandfather had for sale at Wood Farm & Industrial Supply in Versailles. That tractor was sold and went to the other side of the Mississippi.

    In the mid 90's I watched a BONE stock JD 830 2-cylinder wipe the floor with everyone else in one of these "no weight limit" classes. I say vine stock with regard to engine etc. They had 12 foot stacks of wheel weights on both sides, rock boxes and sandbags everywhere. Someone said it went across the scales over 60,000 lbs. It was still chugging pretty good at 300 feet.

      Older Case tractors from when they were still J.I. Case put power to the ground better than any other brand. The Magnum tractors from Case IH also pull better than the competition as well. Ford tractors like the 8/9000 series pull like trains as well. The Case and Fords from the late 60's through early 90's were beasts that pulled great. I'd have to say they were a tie followed by Allis Chalmers, Massey Fergusons(too many problems though), and finally John Deere(problems and too expensive).

    • @jameslandon4126
      @jameslandon4126 8 лет назад +1

      That Massey had to have loaded tires to pull like that. I've never used one that could outpull a Case IH.

  • @wmden1
    @wmden1 3 года назад +1

    Yep, the old MF had a great combination of weight, horsepower, traction, and torque. The newer John Deer was right there close. The tracked Deere was way too light, but the old IH , that ran right after it, was fairly impressive. I'm trying to imagine the cost, logistics, and labor, of hauling these huge tractors across the country, and getting them set up to haul and then to pull, and then back to haul, over and over. My hat's off to the participants.

      @vincentrobinette1507 5 лет назад +1

      I would not get between the sled and the tractor, until the tractor has already backed up and stopped. I've attended events, where the operator waited for the farmer to raise his hand, to verify that the transmission of the tractor is in neutral, before getting between the sled and tractor, to remove the chain from the draw bar. Just a safety thing. I wouldn't want to be near the chain if it broke, especially with tractors like these, pulling that kind of weight!

    We didn't see a Versatile, old or young, but put an 1156 out there on 30.5 duals. They were 40K before you started to hang weights. Then there are the Rites and Big Buds, more cubic inches, weight and power yet.

He's also taking a risk, being between the sled and the tractor, while it's backing up. The events I've attended, have a policy, where the tractor backs up and stops first, then, the operator can unhook the chain. Lol Brain washing really works huh? I guess you also like Apple products and Mac's. What about glocks? You like them too huh? Yeah They've all been hyped up. They aren't any better than any other brand yet every kid on every street corner knows what they are. Why? Cause the media has made them look like gods compaired to everything else.

      This IS how tractors are actually used in the field. A much more accurate representation of the pulling power of real agricultural equipment. I found this more educational, than entertaining. For entertainment, I like the tractors with engines you would never find on the farm. Engines that last 10 or 15 seconds, not 10,000 or 15,000 Hours!
