Hader had already been struggling lately anyway. His second to last appearance in the first half at Miami he gave up 4 hits and couple of long HRs (former Cub Starlin Castro) and now more runs in this AG game. Maybe the trend will continue. Also, Aguilar was the top seed in the HR Derby but had the worst performance. They lost 5 straight to end the first half. Yeah its been a nice past week for the Brewers.
Let’s face it people..... the Brewers are perennial chokers! No way they’re gonna make a run at the newly seeded 1st place Cubs. It happened this year and last, also let Chicago do their thing and they’ll heat up and run away with the division. The Joe Maddon Cubs are notoriously good come August

This was a really exciting game especially cause my Astros hit back to back jacks. Take that Stripling for laughing at my Astros in the 2017 World Series when Springer was going to do that grand slam and Stripling ended up laughing cause it was back on the track.

did anyone else notice how many homers were hit in the bullpens? I have never seen that many homers hit in the bullpens in one game. I don't even think the home run derby had that many home runs in the bullpens
If Detroit had a catcher that could somewhat frame, Jimenez would have at least 20 more Ks on the year, as would the rest of the staff.
MLB failed at marketing this game. It was actually entertaining, but I bet there wasn't a single news station that mentioned it the day after.

Why did Sale pitch only one inning?
It's interesting that - because it resulted in just a foul ball and wasn't the end of an at-bat - one of most important plays of the game didn't make it into this video. I'm talking about the error by Votto that gave Segura the chance to put the AL up by three.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought Jean Segura got snubbed. He should have been an All Star to begin with but had to win the final vote just to get here. Thought the starters choices were alright but there were a few guys, one in particular, who have the fan voting to thank-he should have been no where near an All Star Game. Home run derby but, and I don't know why, the All Star Game doesn't seem to be as fun as its been in the past. Not surprisingly, both managers stuck with their respective pitchers (Morton and Stripling) and it came back to burn both of them, one of them less than the other. Surprised Kimbrel didn't close it out-Chapman for sure should have been the closer had he not sat this one out because of a minor injury.
Also have to pat myself on the back for voting for Segura, Gennett, and Story, all of whom came through. Feel bad for Joey Votto, who messed up on that foul pop up. It happens. This game doesn't mean anything anymore so I'm sure he can get a chuckle in. Nice to see all of the young players get excited a ton (and the veterans too-Nelson Cruz stands out). Hoping for a great second half of the season and glad to see my guys Judge and Severino doing well. ☺️
At least Votto later homered (it was the longest one of the night, they said) and didn't strike out. That's more than I can say for Harper who didn't even make contact. Between Votto's solo shot and Gennett's game-tying shot in the ninth, the Reds didn't really cost the N.L. anything. Votto's error was three runs given up and the two homers the team batted constituted three runs put back. They shot for par, basically. Also, poor Hader threw that horrible pitch right in Segura's wheelhouse. That's not Joey's fault.
Hopefully Votto can get his power stroke back and the Reds (a team I like despite not being anywhere near Ohio) can go on some sort of fun mini-run. They're the little engine that maybe can in baseball.
I never watch the Reds so it's fun watching players from teams I'm less familiar with participate in the All Star Game. For what it's worth, I voted for Suarez to start at third as well, but what can you do when it's a popularity contest?

How did A. J. Hinch win the World Series last year and then not put Kimbrel in for the save in the 9th? Seriously, that was some Orioles Ubaldo Jimenez in the 2016 AL wild card game crap. Got excited that the NL could win, too. Unfortunately the AL came up big in the 10th (Hinch's closer mistake didn't bite him after all, I suppose.)

He wanted to let a guy pitch who had never been to the big show before. In case you didn't notice, the ASG is an exhibition. Yes, the players want to win. But it's all in good fun and about letting everyone have a chance to experience it.
