- Jon Calestine, a last minute replacement for his teammate Eddie Cummings, runs through the field on his way to meet Geo 'Freakazoid' Martinez in the Featherweight final.
Great EBI. Very impressed with Geo's inspiring performance and congrats go calestine for representing the Renzo steamtrain
@10:44
Geo jumps out to scramble
Jon snatches the leg
Geo dives for an armbar
Jon spins out to avoid and counter with his own armbar
Geo spins over, jumps across and escapes.
all in 10 seconds...
that was awesome
Yeah I went into this video thinking "I bet all Calestine has is leg locks." After that ten seconds I literally thought, "he does not have only leg locks." 😂
It was a thing of beauty!
Does EBI test for PED’s ? Just wondering?
@@delphedoyon8214 no Jiu jitsu competition does
They should probably consider making the featherweight belt a little smaller in the waist. That thing looks like it could fit George Foreman comfortably... just saying.
Gold Dee 🤣🤣
that renzo gracie academy is on fire
amazin video buddy really amazing!! thank you very much
Cheers!
Great video, here’s this sub
Cheers!
Thanks for the assembly, good selection of the best moments. Could you give me the titles of the songs ?. Thank you
Thanks for the support! All of the songs are available for free on the RUclips Creator Studio. Anthem (The Grand Affair), Roots of Legend (Density & Time) and That Part (Diamond Ortiz)
I wouldn't say he was a dark horse coming in to this because he is really good but it is cool that the alternate pulled out the win. I'm sure Geo was in the gym the next day already training for the rematch.
Still Rolling I agree, but I definitely think he was a dark horse to the mass jiu-jitsu audience. He had a great performance.
BJJ Hero yeah had I not seen him get some big wins in the past I would have been very surprised. Not saying I still wasn't a little. Training partners help make the fighter, no wonder these guys are so good.
wanna see GEO compete in a GI tournament!! that will be cool!!!!!
heelhooks continue to reign supreme. its cool how fast these guys catch them too.
in combat jujitsu heelhook arent so deadly
Martinez's manner is good
Three comments:
1. Raphael hasn't won EBI but I ALWAYS think he will. Dude is a demon.
2. Geo seems like the nicest dude in all of jiujitsu, competing with Marcelo Garcia for niceness champ.
3. I knew the results from like months ago and I was still nervous watching final match.
Wow. Impressive! So fickle these wins.
Damn, big mistake by davila, turning into that heel hook. Looks sore
Great sportsmanship from Jon. He knew immediately that Davila had gone the wrong way.
I think Geo had a tougher draw through out the tournament. This is not taking away from Calestine's amazing performance but Ashley Williams and Domingos were two of the top dogs in this tournament and Geo drew them both. Sometimes it's like that though.
I think it was a pretty even draw on both sides. Williams and Domingos are both tough, but I personally think Hayden and Davila were two guys that could have also won on any other day. Specifically Hayden, coming off a great ADCC trials performance this past year where he beat Nicky Ryan among others.
Douglas Gustavsson you do know Eddie himself organized the bracket.... something to think about.
Edwin (Junny) normally competes at 135lbs and won thr Kasai 155lb qualifiers, I believe all matches by sub. He also went to 3 draws at Kasai at 155lbs with Gianni Grippo, Celsius Vinicius and Enrico Cocco. All ADCC vets. Mike Davilla is one of the top guys on the entire east coast, beat Barrett Yoshida last EBI and went to the semi finals for both EBIs he competed in. And Jason Hayden is a savage. Took silver at ADCC trials, subbed Nicky and nearly beat Justin Rader for a spot at ADCC. He also finished Domingos not that long ago. Domingos is legit, and Ashley Williams looked solid, but his last two EBIs he lost first round and Geos first match was some random guy who looked like he had no business being there.
Credit to calestine but fuck Geo looked gassed after several extremely grueling matches, would be interesting to see the outcome if this wasn't the case
Geo also had the flu or something coming in.
Kilban Kilban Possibly from overtraining? Same shit happens to Cummings. I know from experience sometimes overtraining can weaken your immune system. For someone like Geo who's game involves a lot of movement losing your stamina can have a significant affect.
Geo had the stomach flu and was puking in between matches. Not from overtraining but the flu has been going around badly in the area of the county where he lives.
maxwell wheatcroft exactly, agree fully.
Why would you spoil the win in the thumbnail
Respect to geo.. monster
#10planet!
Geo locks a triangle on top of armbar position, what is that called? And what does it do, does it hold the position ?
why did Ben Eddy fight against Nick Honstein for the bantamweight title at EBI 15? I thought Chad George won the "CJJ worlds" for the Bantamweight title....so it should have been Ben Eddy vs. Chad George at this event.... can someone explain please?
CJJ and EBI are two different belts more like how there is the world championships and then the Olympics for wrestling or the million different comparisons I could make with fake wrestling their stupid fucking belts.
Nick Honstein was the EBI CJJ Bantamweight champion from winning the inaugural tournament at EBI 11. He beat Chad George in the finals by subbing him with a twister.
yeah i knew that, just thought that the last event was counting....maybe im way off now though lul....thank you bebeboi
what is that "roll" called at about 3:50 ? Calestine rolls into an inside heel hook. is there a proper name for that transition? Im sure there is!
I've honestly been calling it the 'Calestine Roll'. I hit a variation of it in my last match.
awesome! thank you!
It's an abandoned berimbolo into imanari.
Lachlan Giles has a video about this I think. It's pretty much just a variation of the reverse de la riva kiss of the dragon
The final should be longer. 20mins of rolling.
Whats the Music ?
I wonder if Geo's strategy was to get it to OT so there wouldn't be leglocks?
onelungshogun no f'ing way. Geo doesn't play like a bitch.
10:44 when two raccoons start fighting over the last piece of garbage bread
We've been training nothing but leg locks and heel hooks specifically this whole year. While I do know they're incredibly important, especially nowadays, I sure hope the hype dies a quick death; heel hook specialist fights are the most boring fights to see.
mascarpwn mascarpwn TRAIN. LEG. DEFENSE.
Geo's gameplan: Stall through the regulation, be given a dominant position (note to self: drill armbar + escapes) and stall some more
Frantisek Solik you have no idea who you're talking about.
Hahaha (y)
Geo is one of the most submission savage dudes in the game.
GET. THE. FUCK. OUT.
Lololol
dont give a LEG LOCKER YOUR LEG
Would be nice to see guys actually go to war , instead of heel hooking all day
Then stop the leg attack and make it a war?....Don't get me wrong, I love a grinding back and forth battle (this defines most of my own matches) but I'm getting quick finishes and getting paid until someone stops me if that's my game.
i dunno i saw a lot of different attacks even in this highlight video... heel hooks clearly work though.
Thats the only thong jon can do the enkel lock
Wat a dump grappler and boring
lol sad to see no gi in BJJ became a battle for leg locks..
still better than a sweep/advantage game like in ibjjf when half of the match are won by 2/0 sweep
