A tip that I've found helpful: I scroll on Amazon (I'm partially blind and must, by default, shop online). RATHER than click on "buy" I click on "add to list." I get the exact same dopamine hit and later, in more rational moments, go back and review my lists. Some things stay on as "wish list items" or things that I need to shop for on the used market; but a lot of things just go by the wayside. It works for me.
I do the same thing! I have a million things in my "save for later", but I rarely buy any of them. It is just as fulfilling to know I CAN buy whatever it is, without actually buying it, wasting $ and sticking it in a drawer/closet/garage never to be seen again.
My friend’s daughter does this. She looks at every purchase as hours worked. She is only nineteen. I think she is marvellous and is going to have a very organised and trouble free financial life.
My husband and I had lunch at a grocery store food bar recently instead of going next door to the popular restaurant. We had a rare day out and enjoyed eating “out.”😁
Talk about frivolous spending, what is everyone’s fascination with these Stanley cups? I have employees at work that have a new one it seems like every day! Craziness!!!! Talk about following a trend
If we live" Under the median" we should always like. We watch we should kindly like oh so often. Goes for all our great channels. What a blessing is youtube 😊
I've been wanting a new purse silly I know I like good quality purses found one but did not buy a month went by still wanted that purse I found the one on e bay brand new its a 500.00 dollar purse tags still on I paid 139.00 for it includes a wallet the wallet alone was 200.00 but I got purse and wallet set for 139.00 I've been saving for it
My #1 tip is use the gas station only for gas. The only exception is in the Midwest our kwik trips have eggs, butter, potatoes , and milk most times alot cheaper than the grocery store.
I have asked the "host" at a yard sale if they had something particular (a certain size of children's snow suit). They laughed and said yes! They were at a friend's place for the yard sale. We exchanged numbers and I bought the item I wanted at a great price a few days later. Win-win! Sometimes it helps to shop yard sales with a list and call out the items your looking to buy.
Can you please share tips on saving money on personal care and household items? I've found that that line in my budget has creeped up substantially and it doesn't help that we have to use dye and fragrance free everything because of eczema in our family. Think shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and mouthwash, lotion, laundry detergent, shaving, dish soap..
Coconut oil for lotion, Castile soap put in pump bottles with water for hand soap. We use sls/fluoride free Jason’s toothpaste but it isn’t cheap. There are recipes online for homemade tooth paste. There are recipes online for homemade laundry soap. I made my own dishwasher powder with 4 or 5 ingredients.
A lot of the products I have to use like that (like those which are SLS/ fragrance/ harsh chemical free) rarely, if ever, technically go on sale. So, I use the Target gift card for quantity or overall amount of purchase opportunities for them. I then treat those rewards & gift cards in my account as the basis exclusively for my Christmas/ Gifts fund. I currently have nearly a year's worth of all of these items many of which were from sales in January that provided a little more than $25 "back" for my gift funds on a spend of around $75. If I remember correctly, they allow you to redeem those offers multiple times while they're available. So, if you need 6 items and the offer is $X back on 3, split the order & check out twice. Same goes for "spend $X get back $X". Split if you can make it far enough to redeem the second time. Just, as with all things, never spend more than is necessary/ buy unnecessary items. If I'm a couple of dollars shy, I'll add something I am almost guaranteed to need before it would expire, like toothpaste, deodorant, or applicable soap.
I truly wish I could switch to Mint mobile..but when I researched the service in my area (greater Seattle, WA), I found that the service was almost nonexistent. That being said, I was able to find another carrier at half the cost of my previous carrier. Phone costs can certainly be a budget buster!
Hi. Nice to see you both. I was doing great with no spending and feeling good about it; then a stressful and upsetting time came in week three of January and I have been off the rails. Some spending was necessary. Most spending was not. I ordered yet more fabric when I have a garage with bins of fabric. I told myself getting back on track come March. Thank you for all your advice. Have a nice day everyone.
You guys thanks God I found you! Since I watch your videos (1 month) we managed as family to get out of the monthly overdraft and even started saving into emergency fund we have already 10% saved! 🎉thank you so much for the great motivation! ❤
Per your suggestion I did switch to Mint Mobile, and we are happy that we switched, but it definitely wasn’t as easy as 15 minutes. The problem wasn’t really switching to Mint Mobile, but our current mobile provider made it very difficult and cumbersome to switch. I had to spend several hours on the phone with a customer service rep as well as going into their retail location. This is just something that everybody needs to be mindful of depending upon who your current mobile provider is, that is where a lot of our headaches came from in switching to Mint. We even had 2 months where we had to pay for both mobile providers.
Great video. These habits can definitely hinder your financial progress. A habit that hurt me in the past is buying food and supplements that I would never use. I'm much more intentional about my food and supplement shopping now. I try to always ask myself if I can do without the item. You are exactly right in saying that average is broke. Don't be average!
Love this video! So many practical tips. Dont think Mint Mobile is available here in UK. Altjough I have sinking funds and a starter emergency fund, I really struggle with goal setting. I sit down to plan and nothing comes to mind, I just want more savings! In a far better place than I was a year ago, and still improving all the time. Thank you for your video's!! X
I live through Southern Louisiana life in the 80s the thing that happened to us was the oil crash I saw people not even bothering to load their stuff they just put what they could in the car and drove away to some place they think they can find work. And a lot of them will look around and say what am I not carrying with me let me throw it on Facebook marketplace if I could get 25% of it back that's going in the tank. I just scored me a metal detector that is easily for 2 to 300 dollars. It came with a couple of extras like a smaller handheld metal detector called a pinpointer well that pinpointer that's a 70/80 dollar 💵 unit too
I like garage sales, but I only buy things I need. I have a list of things that are starting to wear out or break down, or I don't need right away, and I look for those at a garage sales. Can get some great deals.
I love your videos and they helped me a lot learning to be more frugal :) I would like videos on how to be happy in frugality, because you always look happy. I try to be more frugal but fail to find happiness in that, while buying everything I like makes me happy. I am very passionate about a lot of things that costs money. I try to spend only on things that really are just useful or positive for me, that really brings me joy, but it's still too much because everything brings me joy! I really really try to find joy and motivation in saving money and be reasonable and frugal, but it's really difficult for me. If this subject inspires you for something, I am sure I am not the only one.
How about not asking what you are actually paying for? Like with insurance, for example. You have medical insurance, but you have to pay for any doctor visits, any tests, lab work,x rays, hospital stay, prescriptions, etc. Plus the insurance premium. Or lawn service,if applicable. Or door dash, GrubHub,Uber eats, etc
I was so astounded to learn. Did the price of cell phones with T-Mobile changes? Every 24 hours just like the cost of tickets to go to a concert. Change is depending on the demand hour by hour and now Wendy's. What's going to put in a program that would automatically change? There. Food prices depending on traffic? They did backup that plan the little bit however while they were backing off of that plan other fast food places were instituting in quietly under the radar.
Please advise how to set thermostat when there are two separate units for upstairs and downstairs heating or cooling. Should both be identical temperature to avoid one working hard to cool the area warmer than the cooler place or it is ok to keep one area warmer and another cooler. If so how much?
You need to talk to an HVAC person. We had a similar problem with uneven heating and cooling between our upstairs and downstairs. Our friend, who installs HVAC came over and was able to give us some ideas.

@@pspears2153 I feel so validated 🥰
I do the same and let it sit in my cart. If I am price shopping I also put it under save for later. There are so many things I haven't purchased!
I also try to think how many hours do I have to work to purchase something
Same here!
Yes. But calculate it on your hourly discretionary income, not disposable income which isn't really 'available' money
Yeah this is a great tip, doing that has curbed my spending many a time! 😊
