- This video shows our 2022 John Deere 333g Skid Steer on fire at a customers property. The fire was caused by a mechanical issue. We were lucky enough to find a new machine right away and it will be here next week.

Any skid steer will catch fire if you don’t keep it clean. Certainly when doing land clearing. I owned a 299 cat with forestry package, it had all the guards and seals in place and still required daily cleaning. I would bet money this unit was not cleaned out of debris..
Mine caught on fire two weeks ago and I’m still waiting on John Deere to decide what they want to do. Having a Mulcher and skid steer down is really hurting my business. I don’t think I’m going with another 333, I like the machine but I know of three over guys that have had their 333G burn up in the last four months, I haven’t even had an oil change yet, they have a major issue. I keep it clean but this thing is a year old.
Winter of 87/88 I was operating a D8K doing winter scarification. I kept my floor boards unbolted
'just in case", and sure enough it caught fire. Another D8 working with me saw the black smoke, came over to me and started pushing snow up to the open cab. I pulled off the floor boards and started shovelling snow around the bell housing where the fire was. Luckily i saved it, called in the mechanics and they did a very thorough and needed cleaning.
Thanks for the video.
Was your insurance able to help get a new machine or did the business have to absorb the loss? Glad you are back running again regardless.
What ended up causing the fire? I’ve heard they need to be cleaned a lot more if used for land clearing.
That scares me. I have heard that the Deere skid steers have and issue with fires if used for foresty/landscape, I don't know that for a fact but it gets talked about a lot. Thank god nobody got trapped or injured.
My dad owns a 333 John deer skid steer we used it for mulching it burned down on us before we made the first oil change. And we aren’t new to the game. It can happen to anyone.
It was new skid steer and mulching head new as well.
How do you get out if your bucket blocks the door
DEF system exhaust temps and oil temps running way to hot just a thought
Probably entered a regen and heated the exhaust to the point it ignited some dry debris.
Feel your pain. My 333g burnt a couple months ago. Thankfully the mulch head was fine.
It’s such a tough thing to watch happen! That’s good it was saved. What caused yours? How many hours and what year was it?
@@HansonLandManagement 2018 with 1600 hrs I believe. Not sure exactly what caused it, when I first discovered it the fire was burning debris on the belly pan directly under the engine. I did not have a fire extinguisher other wise I think I could have saved it. I assume something fell from the hot dpf filter and ignited the debris. New machine has a Stop Fyre extinguisher and no more dpf stuff.
Now my
You caught yours on fire too? Sick of def issues?
@@allseasonslandclearing1367 man that sucks! If it was debris in yours, your right you may have been able to save it. Glad to hear your safe. Get a couple extinguishers. I have 3. Lol you back up and running now?
Nasty, glad the Calvary showed up and kept the burning damage to a minimum.
Did you buy the John Deere insurance and did it cover the cost of a full replacement?
Do u no what caused it ? And where it started at? On the skid steer?
So this is why vermeer dont rent them anymore... he said they keep catching fire with mulch head.....
Hate to say it they make fire suppression units for equipment, but you really don't see em' on the lighter stuff. Mostly only on the big money large mining equipment. I am a fireman and have ran on stuff like yours, most of the time it's way out in the sticks and they are gone before we can get there and hopefully they don't start a major brush fire.
That’s great to know. Would I find it from a dealer or aftermarket? I’d be very interested in investing in one. That’s how this was, they had to bring the brush trucks through a low water crossing to get to it. Ended up Burning probably 3/4 of dry grass. I used 3 fire extinguishers and 3 gallons of water. I ended up creating a dirt barrier with my truck as best as I could.
The new Cat 299s that have the land management package have a built-in fire suppression system in them. Not a big fan of Cat skids myself but I wish other manufacturers would incorporate this into high flow machines that are typically used for mulching and forestry applications.
@@idigit4967 I’ve been looking at units to see if I can integrate one on my 333G! That would be pretty cool!
At that point be glad everyone got out of harm
Absolutely! It was bad but it definitely could have been a lot worse. Did the best we could to contain it until the FD arrived.
Nothing burns like a Deere
They all have the ability to burn, very pleased with all the Deere products we have had. That’s why we bought another! 🦌 🚜
You’re a slow learner…this model is absolute junk…I’d be embarrassed for JD if they weren’t laughing all the way to the bank!
Wow defiantly not a good day. Glad the operator could get out in time.
No it wasn’t. Fortunate to have made it out safely!
Why did it catch on fire???I have a 333g also
I don’t have a 100% answer, but they are thinking my turbo through a bearing and it overheated and caught fire.
How often do you clean air filter?
2-3X a day
It will buff!
How did the fire start?
They haven’t determined the cause aside from being a mechanical failure, but possibly from the turbo.
Cat pee on the turbo
UFG will never catch on fire
UFG? Show me this unsinkable ship 🧐
You caught it on fire cause you were sick of def issues 😂🤦🏼
John Deere used to be very well respected years ago but not so much anymore
My 2021 333G has been a POS from the start, tracks came off at 28 hours and does so on a regular basis, totally destroyed and replaced before 700 hrs, you can’t work this machine sideways on the slightest slope. The plexiglass windshield is flimsy and distorted, crawl switch has been repaired twice, A/C fan motor replaced, camera stopped working, front wrist pins, bushings, and end housing replaced under warranty…..did I mention it’s a piece of $hit!
