Little tip on the sorting heifers. Set the locks in the morning before you go to feed and let them lock up. After they have all locked open that back gate that you run them around to load them on the trailer and have someone out on the feed alley only release the ones you need. Saves you some time on sorting and we have had better luck doing it that way
Great job and thinking on you neighbors idea. You and the rest of us learned how ingenous farmers can be when we put our mind to it. Thank you for all you do.
What a great and easy solution to that latch problem. Farmers have to be jacks-of-all-trades with fabricating, engineering, and general handyman skills! Thanks for another interesting video.
I have to say that was very much not an easy solution. An incredibly well thought out one, and superbly engineered. But an easy solution would have been to install a second hydraulic shaft for a latch. Or just an air-powered latch off the shelf. But linking the two systems together so the latch opens first on the same system as the gate? Absolutely genius.
Great video Eric! Nice to have genius neighbors. Your herd has fine looking animals at all stages. Testament to your excellent level of care. Enjoyed the video. Well done!
It was like the older ones were welcoming the youngins. Glad to see you do the 12-foot hoop, lol. You and all of the family have a great and Blessed Easter!
Eric, I have watched your videos since nearly the beginning and it never ceases to impress me how well you and your father work together. Such a blessing. Keep it up.
You have one very industrious neighbor. That was a very clever way of fixing the gate. It's always interesting to see the how and why of rotating the cows. Stay safe.
Man, watching you sort cows makes me wish I was 40 years younger. For some strange reason I always enjoyed sorting cows it was kind of like playing defense on the basketball ball court - patience is the key and you guys make it look like a great days work. Thank you for sharing.
you're so funny. 10 feet...lol. Eric, you and your dad have a beautiful farm. You treat the ladies so nice. Thank you and your dad for awesome videos. Cant wait to see them. Thank you
Funny watching the young cows walk on the slippery concrete and then try to get in the trailer. Learning heaps about dairy cows and the work involved. It's interesting comparing your farm to an average one here in Australia, with some having well over 500 cows, so the work for them must be staggering
What a nice mechanism to latch the gates, the guy who did that sure has a good mechanical head on his shoulders. Those young heifers were real nervous stepping into the center lane when you went to load them, they could tell it was slick on the concrete. Nice video, liked it, thanks for sharing. Stay safe and have a wonderful Easter.
Must be pretty cool having a few hundred thousand people be able to look at your work and methods and tell you when you missed something or did something right. Not a lot of workers have that kind of feedback to improve their craft that quickly and easily.
Looks like the new barn is working out real good. Get a grinding machine and cut 1/2 wide and a 1/2 deep grooves. It works great in hog barns. Stay safe
Thanks for your video, i just found this channel a couple weeks ago. Its extremely exciting to me to learn about this part of life that I have never known or thought about. A whole new world has been opened to my eyes! Its funny, but I'm hooked. I've been binge watching and your videos are top notch!!! Its very inspiring to see a guy as young as yourself learning the ropes. There IS still hope for the future...
Eric you can get a rough finish on that calf barn floor by having a company shot-blast the floor, it's a machine that shots ball bearings against the floor, not a lot of money or time involved
Did Dad play linebacker back in the day? He got down in a great linebacker stance moving those gals into the trailer! Love all the videos. Have a great Easter Sunday.
Calf barn floor.. one cup muriatic acid per gallon in a sprinkler bucket and rinse with hose should help that slick floor. Should foam slightly and etch the surface
Eric, could you make a video specifically discussing all the steps the cows go through from birth all the way up to when they're in the milking/dry cow cycle? I know you've discussed it all bit by bit over the years but one video with the whole process would be cool.
@@realemonful Haha, I've been following Eric for over 2 years. I'd write him a check in a heartbeat. Wholesome content like this is quite rare and worth more than money. Unfortunately, intermeddlers like you are also quite common but, alas, like COVID, you're not going away.
@@realemonful Eric, I will happily pay you $200 for the video I'm requesting. Knowing what I know about you, you wouldn't accept it BUT, I'd be honored if you did. As a gentleman, on my honor, I promise I will pay for the video I am asking for.
I wish you'd do a little more explanation as you're doing things. They might make complete sense to you but most of us have zero knowledge about what you're doing. So you're moving cow's to make room, how did you do that? You have tons of walls and gates, what's the process? Great videos, I always upvote and watch to the end. I'd just like more explanation on how you're doing what you're doing.
you can use a heat source, gas torch, for roughing the smooth concrete. does leave small sharp edges. try it where it will not be a problem. The concrete surface explodes while this is being done.
Haven't seen any B ball action in a while. Maybe young Jack is sleeping through the night better now eh Papa! You could roughen the concrete surface in the calf barn with Muratic Acid. Look it up and follow safety instructions but it will etch the surface by removing some of the concrete "cream" exposing the top of the aggregate within. There are other ways like resurfacing the exiting floor with stone grinding wheels or cutting wheels that put in grooves. Cheers 🇨🇦
I usually remark at how nosy the cows are but this time around the 2:45 minute mark they were looking pretty suspicious of what Eric was up to. Still an entertaining video Happy Easter Eric and family.
That was a great video, the idea for that gate in the milking parlour was just amazing, hats off to the guy, he has a great engineering brain. Iv a question, what’s the big 1 tone block in with the calves about???? And can you do a QandA video👍
I’m a beef producer and I would like for you to explain in a video what ages are in each building and pen as I would like to pattern my replacement heifers . A simple drawing or flow chart would do as our university’s do not provide this information in East Tennessee.

Wow, I love that gate latch…..sure is nice to have clever neighbors.
Loved the cow content. Those young heifers sure are squirrely!
whoever designed that gate latch system is brilliant!
One of the farm's neighbors apparently come up with it from what Eric said In the video

Really enjoy seeing the different cow groups cycle around. The gate latch is really clever!
A clever design. Pretty amazing. Farmers have the hardest jobs (IMO). GOD Bless the Farmers.
That auto latch is clever. Clean and effective design and implementation. 👍🏻
Ingenious latch! Kudos to your neighbor!

Heifers look great! They sure stay clean with the bedded pack. I bet they are growing even better in the new facility.
You have one very industrious neighbor. That was a very clever way of fixing the gate. It's always interesting to see the how and why of rotating the cows. Stay safe.
Gate latch is very ingenious. Eric you and your family have a top notch operation.
You guys seem to have the best neighbors. Good to hear.
Happy Easter to you and your entire family! HE IS RISEN! ✝️
Like you said…very clever design. It’s so cool to see collaboration between farmers!
Nice looking cows and heifers. Product of your care of them and your animal husbandry skills.
Your Neighbor needs to make a business doing these kind of things. Very cool to see his work.
The new gate last ch works slick. We’ll done design - impressive. 👍

Very new to seeing farm life and its cool how so many things are custom built!
enjoyed the animal husbandry in this video.... they are well cared-for :)
Always amazes me how easy your Holsteins are to load my beef cows would be impossible to load the way you do

Happy Easter sir! Hope you and your family have a great one.
How about a video of what you do outside of farming? That would be awesome! Thanks for the video.
Quick and efficient moving between farms! Great system now
For that calf barn, you can rough up the concrete with a concrete grinder. You can also cut grooves to drain the water off.
I love seeing those young heifers being mover up to the next stage in their life.
Great thought and design of the gate latches. 🏴
Those latches are really nifty. Your neighbor is a real inventor. Great video as usual. Hope you and your family have a very Happy Easter.
Love the latch nice invention neighbor.
You might have to get Alan to micro groove the floor in the calf barn like you did in the dry cow barn.
What a genius setup for the gate
What a busy day for you both. Thanks for sharing.
The cattle shuffle, really enjoyed that video.
Your friend needs to Patent that Latch system. Really neat
I concur on the gate latch. Very clever mod!
Cows look very clean, testimony to your efforts.
Man that is one of the slickest setups I’ve seen. That guy knows his stuff!!
Thanks for taking us along! Have a great week!!(Robin)
Kudo's to your neighbor and his genius level abilities🥇 I loved the herd management...and the Raptors are going to win it all this year 😎
Amazing idea for the latch hope you and the family are well!

this is going to be another great video like always
Exactly
Young stock look great. So clean look like show cattle. Shuffling animals takes some time and effort. Happy Easter from Ontario 🇨🇦
Nice looking heifers. The gate latch is ingenious. Happy Easter to you and your family..
It is always so informative and the work that goes into dairy farming is amazing
Thanks for making videos helps me get through boring days
That gate configuration is kind of cool!
Your neighbor has some talent! Nice set up for that gate.
Thats a pretty clever gate latch I like that your nabor is a pretty smart person
That moving heifers/calves things seems easier now, nice job !!!!!!!
That is some S in bending that latch like that. Badass. The steel gets hot.
Such an ingenious latch design! I would have never came up with that! ❤️
Good herd management. Eric & Dad. You can still shoots hoops Eric. Waiting to see you & your buddies have a 2 on 2. Wishing you a nice Easter Sunday.
That’s pretty slick.
Your neighbor got some smarts.

i like the grease fittings on the latch
Very interesting latch for sure thanks for sharing
Very clever that guy
