A word about cross-overs. I just need to point out that the way Dan has wired these speakers in this video is to bypass the tweeter and midrange altogether, and only use the woofer driver. This may have been his intent. By good fortune (or maybe his original reason for choosing these drivers) is they are still cheaper than many of the higher-end 'woofer only' models. However, since Toyota don't seem to have crossover in the car (just a LF block to the tweeter/midrange on the dash), there is actually a full-range signal going down to the door speakers. So, if you actually use the crossover provided with the Kicker 47KSC69304 6x9 speakers (its the small circuit board in black shrink-wrap with two sets of gray wires sticking out both ends), you can get full-range audio out of your door speakers. I found this to improve speech legibility (I too am suffering HF roll off!) and music enjoyment. I did have to modify the Metra speaker connector - I just cut both of the crimp terminals off, soldered them onto the bare-wire end of the crossover (white is positive), and covered the joints with shrink-wrap.
I ordered the same wire kit and speakers. The speakers are now wired with a crossover block. The crossover needs the positive and negative from your original speaker wiring and then it has 3 wires that go to the speaker. My wife like the sound of her new speakers.
Good video. There are grooves in the mounting bracket to run the speaker wire behind the speaker without pinching it. No need to use the grommet on the door.
Thanks for the video. Just installed six new speakers in my 2019 after watching. Broke a few of the clips on the door trim panel but was able to buy a pack of them at NAPA.

@@JasonJolo98 who said anything about XLT?
@@samuelaiken2570 He says XLT in the description of the Highlander.
@@JasonJolo98 oh I didn’t notice that. Probably just a typo
Nice job i have 2017 limited with jbl and its sucks i need to change it too 😂
Wow, I thought that JBL system was supposed to be better! Let us know what you end up installing and what you think. Is the rear sub in the back hatch any good?
Also, does your car have remote start? I’m doing a review of remote start systems right now
How do I get those speakers
Curious what made you go 6x9s in the front vs say a 6.75 or a 6.5 like you did in the rears?
Bigger is better when it comes to speakers, more cone surface area allows for a more powerful and wider range of sound.
Hi Dan, I got the same set of speakers and installed sound damping material on my doors. However there is no difference in sound quality between my stock speakers and new kickers. Is the difference minor?
I found the change in the front less dramatic than the rear, but definitely noticeable. Especially the punchiness of the low end.
I changed all the speakers, now the stereo sounds very good under vol lvl 25, however after 25 it sound very very bad. Thinking of getting new radio unit, like boss or kenwood.
I went with the same setup but what connector did you get to correct the fit? The part when you cut the wires? Thanks
I had a connector kit already that has lots of sizes like this one: amzn.to/2VZx6Xy
Where did you buy the retro to stock connector for the 2016 Toyota Highlander
Can someone help me with where I can found my 2014 Highlander amplify in my car
your speakers all sounded the same on my chromebook.
You skipped the part where you look for your 10mm for an hour!
Do the speakers suck
The old ones did, but the new ones sound pretty good to me. I don't rock hard tho...
A mistake you made is that you didn't installed the crossovers that came with the speakers. That being said the tweeters will NOT work in conjuction with the speakers..... what a fail !
My understanding is that the leads go to the tweeters first then go to the door speakers. The tweeters have their own high-pass filter already. These sound great to me the way I installed it. Tweeters are not blown out by low end at all.
