  • A very notable change since Dragon Quest 1. Still originally on the NES, we're playing the Switch version.

In this episode we explore half the world so we can figure out how we want to build it as we please

@@dshadows2966 hopefully we get a builders 3, it could maybe be a multiplayer game where one player plays as a builder and the other players play as the fighters?

... I've been watching too much anime.
When you named the Prince Loid, I half expected you to name the princess Yor.

The overworld theme in this game is REALLY good! My favourite out of them all.

17:55 I believe the game Naka is talking about is Sword Dancer. Basement Brothers did a video on that game.

My favorite dq games are probably the warriors, followed by 11

The Prince of Cannock and Princess of Moonbrooke go by the names of "Princeton" and "Princessa" in side content, mainly the Itadaki Street games.

So, I've been rewatching Naka's DQ4 LP (or more accurately, have it on in the background as I grind out stuff in my games) got to the video where he mentions (and I'm obviously paraphrasing here) "Hey, be careful where you sail in your boat, 'cause there are things in the ocean that will heck you up."
Guess where that trend started? This game.
Hope you've got a good guide open too, as this game very much suffers from "Where-the-poop-do-I-go?"-itis. Back in the pre-GameFAQs days, this game actually killed my enthusiasm for this franchise, because I would lose track of where I was, what I needed to do, and got sick of unknowingly wandering into areas that I was just not prepared for.
Also didn't help that my NES was getting rather cantankerous at the time: sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would corrupt the save and I'd be forced to start over, which is always "fun" (no it isn't).

Only the 2nd LP I've seen of this personally, which is rare for some games.

1:55 In this version, not so much. It’s still a good idea to grind a bit and save often in the final area. But it’s been seriously toned down from the NES days.

Oh! Coincidentally enough, I was wondering if you were going to play this next! There was also another guess I was going to make, but I don't know if you have it or are interested in it.
1:41 - 1:54 - That's going to be something to bring back up late in the game.
    3:03 - 3:30 - A little over a month to go!!!
    4:02 - 4:32 - Only lonely boy....
    6:37 - 6:43 - I remember watching the Midenhall ones.
8:35 - 8:57 - The king barbequed one of them, only to be barbequed himself shortly afterward.
    13:05 - 13:10 - He's on a permanent vacation.
17:46 - 17:50 -That's 100 times more than the Charioteer class can equip in Bravely Second.
    19:29 - 19:31 - Hello, Ruffian!
    22:19 - 22:25 - I forgot that they're now called that(They were originally called Giant Slug).

You're lone character is no longer going to be a one person army in this game... but that's for later.
Like all JRPG's someone's hometown gets burned down and hero gets involved, yada yada yada, reasons to grand adventure GO! Now we run into people's homes and start stealing things you might need for your quest without asking.
The Dragon Quest 2 had something like the main character has a level cap of 50. Apparently heroes in the Dragon Quest world always get at least 50 in the early games. In the original Dragon Quest 2 game, the second character had a cap of something like 45 and the third character has a cap of 35.
Now if only I could remember the names of games like 'Dragon View'.
    ...
    *KATHWACK*
Misses every single target and all the people in the comments... except one particularly annoying little 1/1 HP gnat that took about 99.99% of the magical energy to kill.
Why do I even bother with these spells again?

The dragon quest openings, not just nostalgic, but also the way that each opening got progressively more complex then the last one. The downside of the re-releases is that they stayed with modern versions of ovature, instead of doing proper remixes of the version that existed then.

Yeah I believe the sprites for the overworld, towns, castles and dungeons are just directly lifted from the SNES version of DQ3 while the character sprites and monsters are new.

I have bounced off this game 3 separate times. I want to play through all the DQs eventually, but maybe excepting this one. It feels...oddly bloated to me in a way that kinda kills any play momentum I get.
