Detonation happens under high cylinder pressure situations (Normally Low-mid RPM, High load, high heat). The best way to explain it like they said, "rattley". Almost chain rattle, but not. Its internal and pingy... and unless the bike is just absolutely cooking with 87 oct, it will come-and-go depending on how you're operating the bike.
