Sir I have a question, in a closed loop system 1) We compress the air 2) We Combust the air (with the help of fuel. Etc which needs oxygen) 3) Exhaust: recirculate the air through Intercooler/Heat exchanger back to the compressor. But sir my doubt is that how can we combust the air again and again without any oxygen in a closed loop system to provide useful work?
Hi Suyog, If you allow me to share few points here. We combust fuel in gas turbine & many fuels can be fired like ATF, Naphta, Natural Gas, etc. The proper combustion will happen if there is sufficient amount of oxygen is present, that is why air to fuel ratio is monitored. and in boiler and turbines excess air is maintained (more than 3-4%). If you allow same air flow from exhaust to again for combustion there will not be sufficient amount of oxygen for combustion. This is one of the issue in recirculation of air, and there will be many more. like the exit temperature from gas turbine is 550-600 deg C and that can not be used. Lets say if we transfer the heat in HRSG then also there will be 200 degC temperature and that can not be used in compressor section. that is why we can not use it in closed cycle system. Hope I could do some help.
