      Here's the thing, it would be great if it made sense. He pretty much disproved that for us by stating being born in America was luck and that had nothing to do with resilience. That's just pure statistical luck. Luck isn't something that can really be defined so easily. If a bullet is shot and hits me but It hits my metal necklace and saves me. That isn't resilience. It seems like people who are failing prefer to believe that luck is so important because it gives them justification and allows them to avoid taking responsibility
    On the other hand people who are successful prefer to think that luck is meaningless because it allows them to take credit for every aspect of their success.
    Both sides of the coin should see that a complex combination of both is required for "success".

    Every successful person ever will say that their success was the result of their hard work and dedication. Someone will always be on the bad side of luck, so they will miss their opportunity. Opportunity only knocks once. If you aren't lucky enough to be ready to act exactly when it does, then you will not be able to attain anything.
    A quote from Berserk comes to mind whenever people talk about luck and success:
    "While many can pursue their dreams in solitude, other dreams are like great storms blowing hundreds, even thousands of dreams apart in their wake. Dreams breathe life into men and can cage them in suffering. Men live and die by their dreams. But long after they have been abandoned they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams."

    All the people who get asked this question, "is luck required for success," are successful and don't want to admit that part of their success is down to luck. None of them know what it's like to be talented AND work AND not make it.

    • @JoeJoe-lq6bd
      @JoeJoe-lq6bd 5 лет назад +7

      tg72201 They can’t deal with admitting that there might be someone who worked harder and is more talented who didn’t “make it.” By their reasoning, Britney Spears is more talented than Leadbelly.

      It feels like so many people like pulling the “started from the bottom now we’re here” card. They like telling people about how they used to live in poverty, be bullied or have an abusive childhood to show how hard-working and talented they are because they pulled themselves up. It’s okay to admit that you’re successful thanks to luck, that’s how life goes really.

    Tbh, i think you need both. You can work so so so hard and just get nothing, but you can also work a little for a little bit and get loads. For example, for years charles Goodyear, an inventer, spent years trying to improve rubber so that it wouldn't crack in the cold or melt in the heat. Eventually he made vulcanised rubber which was revolutionary after years of hardships including nearly gassing himself to death by accident, going into debt because of his experiments into making rubber several times, his whole family going homeless and 6 of his children dying amongst other things. He had worked so hard to improve rubber and in doing so created vulcanised rubber. But other inventors stole his idea and eventually he died crippled and penniless. He had such bad luck that even tho he worked extremely hard, he got no meaningful success. Of course most of us can achieve success via hard work, but luck is also sooo important.

    Everything in life is luck or unlucky...forget about about your country of birth or family or friends or school or opportunity that lands at your door etc which we can agree is luck, determination is luck, hard work is luck... successful people are offended if you say it's luck buecause it damages thier ego....there are so many variables in life, it really is out of our control... you get a 100 smokers in a how to quit Ted talk...maybe 10 will quit, it doesn't mean that the 10 are better or more willing to quit it just meant that particular talk spoke to them and helped.. maybe if the same 100 people didnt have the talk but an advert was released on TV, a different 10 would quit.. we are simply bots reacting to new Information through life and If we are able to react and live a better life, we are just lucky and we should be grateful and humble....we need to be compassionate and spread positivity..

    There are plenty of dedicated people. Not everyone is going to get an opportunity so yeah. Luck is a factor.

    To the point "We worked for several years before anyone cared" Well the fact that people care now/ listen to Logic now may be luck who knows. I think a lot of Made Men are affected by confirmation bias.

    ill sum this up for you all in case people read comments. luck is the intersection point between preparation and opportunity...facts....if you look at a large enough data set everything regresses towards a mean regardless of how many standard deviations it is away from the median. so regardless of what your point on the normal curve is (open up a text book) they are totally right in that luck happens on occasion maybe 1 day out of 3 years so 1/1000 chance. but if you are ready the entire time its undeniable that you will find success in your given field. whoever asked this question clearly has never grinded long enough to thrive

    What I learned through football is "hard work doesn't guarantee anything, but without it you are guaranteed nothing". I believe that luck is involved but the ones who work hard know how to improve their chances or they at least figure a way to make it. Whether they work hard for 2 months or 2 decades, they get after it and they WANT it enough.

    I fundamentally disagree with them here. Hard work and determination can enable you to take advantage of an opportunity, but for many people that opportunity just never comes. It's easy to say in hindsight that they're where they are because of hard work, but they're confusing necessary and sufficient conditions here. Hard work is necessary, it's not sufficient.

    Course luck is Important, I consider myself somewhat successful in what I’ve achieved at this point in my life but also recognise that I’ve been incredibly fucking lucky. people need to stop flattering themselves, lots of people work really fucking hard, people bust their asses and sacrifice their lives just to put food on the table and just don’t make it, resilience is important too but the biggest contributing factor is luck.
    How I see it is you’re playing dice, hard work and resilience just gives you more throws of the dice but luck still determines the outcome
