You can make crystals, you can make diamonds, you can melt down gold and make another piece, but you can't do that for jade. Each piece is unique. The beauty is not always how pure it is. Because jade almost never come without impurities, understanding the beauty of jade makes a culture of accepting weakness and imperfections and work around it to make the whole piece a better piece of art, a norm.

For me personally, jade holds childhood memories. My mom used to go on business trips to China and would bring back a bunch of cool stuff, among them were a set of jade chopsticks and a jade turtle. This was a time I remember very fondly, now being the sentimental wreck I am I want to find a new jade turtle to replace mine which disappeared into the abyss

For my family jade is about protection and bringing about luck, fortune and prosperity.
For example those jade bracelets, is both protection and luck. For that bracelet to break, would mean that it broke in order to prevent something bad happening to you.
Every lunar new year I receive a new necklace with a new jade pendant that is supposed to keep me safe, and bring me good luck for the new year.

I came to this video after watching Laoshu's videos. He speaks fluent Chinese and often surprises Chinese people that he understands their language. But it is crazy the number of Chinese people who instantly zero in on his jade bracelet and are fascinated by it, asking him where he got it, etc. He speaks a ton of other languages and no other nationality even notices the bracelet. Very few cultures have a connection with a gemstone the way the Chinese have one with jade.

Yes.. Even Jade is more expensive than golds and diamonds.. Today, the most expensive diamond was the Cullinan at $2 billion.. The most expensive Jade piece in history up to this day is the legendary lost Heirloom Seal of the Realm or the Jade seal of Imperial China that cost up to $1 trillion if found.. China and Taiwan is fighting for it to whoever it goes when it is found.. Whoever the country that will manage to get their hands on it will be deemed as the most powerful and richest.. Jade is pretty scary. For some, they believe it is merely a stone of some sort. But for me, I thought nothing of it too when I had a semi big jade (attached to my necklace). I would try scratching it with my fingernails, and no scratch. I used a screw driver and tried to scratch it but it was still smooth. One day I dropped the jade maybe 3-4 feet in a public restroom (hard floor). No cracks, no scratches. (I used a magnifying glass). But here is where it got "scary" and interesting.
I was driving at 60 mph and someone ran a red light. I was 1CM or MM away from hitting him. (T BONE in an intersection). I could see his car door a few MM away from my windshield. It was so close like "II" from hitting each other. I drove right past and so did he. After that night I was scared that I could have been in a fatal crash. That time I was wearing my jade. But you are probably thinking: "Your jade cracked after that didn't it?" Nope. I did not even think of that. But now when I look at the back of the jade, theres a long line scratch going down like a / . And when someone was up close and grab to see my jade up close, they saw that there was a scratch (while I was in CHINA), said that Jade saved you from something didn't it? And from then, I believed that it had some "power to protect me."

Jade has been used in virtually all periods of Chinese history and generally accords with the style of decorative art characteristic of each period. Its deep significance in Chinese culture has deemed it worthy of being symbolic of ancient Chinese ethics and ideologies and also representative of the progression of Chinese culture.[11] Thus, the earliest jades, of the Neolithic Period, are unornamented ritual and impractical versions of the tools and weapons that were in ordinary use, often much larger than normal examples. These are presumed to have been symbols of political power or possibly religious authority.[12]
There have been several main Neolithic jade working centers.[12] The first known centre is known as the Liangzhu culture (c. 3300 - c. 2200 BC) -Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_jade

For me jade represents a gift from my deceased cat her name was Jade. I bought three pieces of Jadeite jade that ironically were the exact shade of her eye colour when she was alive. It's a light green Jadeite jade with a hint of yellow when you shine it in the light. I have this feeling that it was a gift from her because she knew I liked collecting gemstones. The irony of her being named jade which means stone of the side for flank had to do with the kidney's and she died from kidney disease. When I hold one of Jade stones I bought which was three it keeps me calm and I feel closer to her in spirit. The animal spirit I get a presence is jade is my cat or a dragon spirit which tells me this is a very spiritual, wise stone which shine in mysterious beauty in it's own right. I feel a sense of home when I hold and I relax. I get visions that show me China ancient lands and history possible I could of had a pass life in China as a woman. I don't get the sensation that I was a man but a woman who had long beautiful black hair skinny round face like the moon and very well dressed. I lived in a small but nice home and I studied a lot. I was very introverted. All from meditating with this stone. I completely thank my cat or sending from the heavens this beautiful gift to the store for me to buy it. I love and miss you Jade my beautiful cat. Kiddo (her nickname) I can't wait to see you again when we meet in the heaven we can cuddle once more and talk about things we don't want the adult hoomans to know. I know you forgive and love as I love you to Jade until we meet again!

There is a chinese axiom popularised by the tv series "Jade Fever" - "Blood must be shed before jade can be found". Where I am in NZ, 3/4 of our jade deposits fall within Kai Tahu territory, where control of the mineral resource, despite never being mined, has been the cause of multiple tribal wars, feuds, and other such disputes.
As a rock hound in NZ, I am limited to collecting nephrite jade outside of the Kai Tahu tribal boundary if i wish to hunt for the stone without tribal consent. Even as late as the mid 90s, those with cash forced out anyone that they didn't want taking jade from their rivers by arming patrols along the banks, luckily this practice is no longer supported and was stopped by federal and local government agencies.
Those that still risk jade hunting without consent of the local people are often in the same position as an expectant mother- no one cares that you're pregnant until you bring attention to the fact that you're pregnant, then everyone has an opinion, ie no one cares that you collected jade and got away with it, until you bring attention to what you found.
Nelson, Marlborough, and other areas of the upper south island are the only place where serpentinite and nephrite specimens can be collected from inland sites without any risk of persecution.
There are also small, scatterd serpentinite mineral deposits throughout the north island, which are also free for all to collect from, though no one has found any verified raw nephrite so far within these lenses.

Chinese people believe jade wards away bad luck. If a jade bracelet broke, it meant that it has absorbed all the bad luck and taken damage away from you

Cant believe you never showed a single video or photo of how real jadite jade looks when a strong light or the sun is shining on it from behind.. The transparency effect, much like how a strong light shows the red veins under your skin if you hold your hand up against the light, is amazing and makes this mineral utterly unique in appearance. Thats half the appeal of it. Many chinese jade sculptures are actually pre-fitted with LED's on the inside (for example of the buddha statues) so it lights up and casts this gorgeous green glow around it, as if it was molten inside. Making a video about Jade and NOT showing that, is like making a video of diamonds and never showing the way light bounces off in rainbow colors.

they are totally different, jadeite jade is harder than nephrite jade, jadeite jade mostly comes from Burma, China just quite close to it. China has the best carvers and manufactories, but the jadeite jade always needs to import from Burma.
