Very interesting technique. Didn't know you could use watercolor directly on canvas without applying a watercolor ground. Thank you.

I love this. Yes the beaches are beautiful. We are not known for beaches in Scotland but they are the best i've seen and the cleanest as there's no-one there. That water is so clear and Turquoise until you go a bit deeper and it's very dark Blue/Grey and absolutely freezing. Glencoe and Ranch Moore is my favourite lace in the world.

This is very beautiful. I have done similar paintings on paper with watercolour using credit cards, palette knives etc. Because watercolour on canvas would easily reactivate if it got wet, how do you protect/seal it - do you use cold wax or a spray varnish? Thank you.

@@SuzanneBeaudoin-jb4eg Thanks so much! I absolutely love the process of painting with watercolour and have developed a relationship with the paints and water as well as my brushes and tools. I find that if I focus on the process and allow things to happen I am very often surprised and pleased with the result. I hope the same will be true for you as well!

Just lovely! I want to experiment more on canvas. Did you use a watercolor canvas or acrylic? Does it matter? Do you prefer not treating with a watercolor ground?

For these demos I use canvases I’ve picked up from our local Dollar Store and/or our big-box craft store. They seem to have a light pre-treatment with a type of gesso (I’m guessing here), but the surface is not as matte looking like it would be with a heavy coat of anything. These canvases are intended for use with acrylic and craft paints - but I find them perfect for this style of painting.
I have tried watercolour canvases but found them to be costly and I wasn’t as pleased with how the pigments and water played on the surface.
      Hope this helps! 😊

I have the one with 12 wells. They come empty and I fill them with Daniel Smith paints from the tube. The paints will dry nicely and are easily re-wet when you are ready to paint. My favorite set up has the following colours:
      Mayan Dark Blue
      Indanthrone Blue
      Neutral Tint
      Payne’s Blue Grey
      Undersea Green
      Moonglow
      Quinacridone Purple
      Quinacridone Rose
      Sepia
      Transparent Brown Oxide
      Aussie Red Gold

    • @ArtistLyndaNorman
      @ArtistLyndaNorman  3 дня назад +1

@@vananderson4878 thanks for watching and taking the time to leave your question.
When I first started playing with watercolour on canvas I experimented with various surface treatments, including gesso. I found that I much preferred the effect I was able to achieve on canvases just as they came from the store. For the loose and flowing landscapes I found that adding gesso provided more ‘tooth’ and restricted the flow. I would suggest getting a few inexpensive canvases and testing things out. Most canvases come pre-treated with some degree of gesso and you’ll have to play around and find the ones that ‘feel’ right.
      Hope this helps!
