      While I agree that the public school system is messed up, more money is not the answer like most things in life. I come from MN where the once great education system is failing. They have responded by throwing money at the problem, which has done nothing and outcomes continue to fall. We need to get back to common sense polices and remove certain elements from the school system all together and just focus on education. Not personal and political ideology. Or we will just keep lighting money on fire while the education system crumbles.

    Yeah I think it was Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom who opened his big mouth on renaming Clark County. The cost would be extraordinary...money that needs to be spent helping its citizens. Similar to the Raiders season tickets display box....back in 1998 when I worked at the then LV Hilton (now Westgate), an Executive showed me a gift from the Bellagio (sent to all the local LV casino Execs) for the 'new' "O" show. We stayed there on June 6th - The Durango - and we were lucky enough to have free rooms. Yes, these rooms are very expensive if you are paying for them yourself. But, I have to say, it was glorious to stay here - so plush, everything new. The shower was too die for. The beds and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud. However, we found that the restaurants at the Durago were very pricey for what you got for food. Pool area was also very nice. Casino floor, very clean and signs everywhere you walk. The bathrooms were like walking into Taj Mahal.

      We visited the Durango on our last trip to Vegas in April. I was SO impressed. It's absolutely beautiful! We've switched our playing from MGM properties to Station properties. We're at Platinum level with Station and expect to advance to President level on our next trip in October. By next year same time, I expect we'll be at Chairman level and that we'll achieve that in far less time than it took us to achieve platinum level with the MGM...ahem...choke..."Rewards" players club. We're done with MGM nickle and diming us to death, with their horrible players club, their ever increasing resort fees, their fees for parking and now I hear they don't even serve top shelf drinks to their Platinum members, let alone the rest of their patrons.

    In my experience when it comes to overpriced rooms in Vegas, it was actually at a hotel that many consider to be a budget hotel in Excalibur. When I stayed there in January of 2022, they charged me $150 a night ($300 total) before resort fees & this was just their basic room. In my view, the room should have cost half that because it was just above Motel 6 (but not as bad as OYO or Circus Circus) in terms of quality. What makes this worse was that it was not particularly busy in Vegas during my stay & I would think that given the fact that we were just coming out of the pandemic at the time that Excalibur would offer cheap rates to try to get more guests to stay there & recoup their losses. Now when it comes to budget hotels the next time I am in Vegas, the first choice will be the Rio mainly because I have Rio Rewards comp nights I can use & can also get Hyatt Rewards points for staying there.

    I have played both the Primm courses, and no they are not a fancy thing for high rollers. In fact, in the last 10 years at least they have been rather the opposite. It was a nicely designed golf destination at one point, but they seemingly do not have the water or maintenance budget to keep it looking and playing as originally designed. It has been a relative "bargain" course, making it worth the trip to avoid exorbitant Vegas golf prices. The layout is good and it still played ok, but lots of dormant grass, frequently one course or the other closed, and very firm, dry fairways. I never even knew MGM owned it. Any player tie ins would be with the Primm casinos, and if they did not sell it earlier im guessing it is because they did not have a buyer.

    I'd rather that money be put to better use in the county....education, homelessness, or just invest it. His reasoning is naff by stating that some big cities have the same county name as the city... Pretty weak. A lot of big cities are in a county differently named. And you did touch on that it -- Clark County is more than Las Vegas. Clark County has a population near 2.5 million, while the city has a 25-30% that. Kind of leaves the other 70-75% as a second thought.
    Plus no matter how much they think it'll cost, it'll cost more. As the project progresses, things will be uncovered that people will have overlooked and completely forgot. Should be a hard pass unless privately funded without taxes since it's just a vanity project, no return on that investment.

    The CrowdStrike kerfluffle let me live the American dream of getting paid for not working. And for those affected at casinos that day, it could have been worse, you could have been at an airport, trying to get a flight. Surprisingly, Southwest's systems are so antiquated they were not affected by the CrowdStrike fiasco. Go figure. Looking forward to my annual pilgramage to Las Vegas at Thanksgiving.

    EDC Las Vegas always delivers awesome collectible boxes which your festival wristbands are snug secure in. I always wish more festivals did something like that. 🙂
    I'm opposed to the county name change idea. There's more to the state of Nevada than just Vegas, including much of Clark County alone. I know there's San Bernardino Country, but it's different in that it was established all the way back in 1853 when only about five thousand people lived in the town of the same name at the time.
    Granted I haven't actually set foot there as of yet, but even though Durango's a beautiful resort from all the footage I've seen..............with it having few rooms right now and also being a relatively small casino overall, I have to imagine overcrowding is going to be a major concern there for the foreseeable future that can't help but kind of diminish the overall all-around experience there. I get Station Casinos probably wanted to be prudent in their investing and just wait and see what happens in its nascent form before considering potential Phases 2 and 3 of development/expansion.............but when there's not many rooms, its pretty small and its rates are what they are, I just don't feel it's worth it right now.
    Aria's obviously overpriced especially with most of its rooms being quite dated and it simply not feeling like a five-star resort at this time, but at the very least I've gotten complimentary two-night stays there via myVEGAS so there's that.
    Another extremely overpriced hotel is NoBu at Caesars. Obviously you both have stayed there and even filmed a room and hotel review, but its price point has always been a deterrent for me. It has some features which are nice, but they most certainly don't justify its leviathan price point.

    Congrats on the 50k subscribers!
    As far as Durango goes, I agree 100% with Jacob about Durango being the most overpriced. It is a 4 star property, not 5 stars. The service, pool and amenities are average at best, and the view is terrible. Durango is in the worst area of Las Vegas and doesn't merit to charge the same price as higher end resorts in best parts of Vegas (centre strip). While Durango casino is a great place for locals, most locals do not book the hotel itself; tourists do. Tourists don't want to pay 5-star centre-strip SUITE kind of price to stay in a small room in a 4-star hotel that is far from all the Vegas action, in a place that mandates needing a car to go anywhere, with limited shopping and food options. Durango is following Tropicana's greedy pricing strategy which jeopardizes its future.

    • @Milestomemories
      @Milestomemories  Месяц назад

      I think they purposely built the hotel small. They used this strategy before at both GVR and Red Rock. I suspect rates will eventually come down as the newness fades off and they’ll most likely build more rooms too. Over time it will probably come at the same level as Red Rock when it comes to rates. And the property will grow into more of a proper resort in the mean time as well.

    • @RM1969RM
      @RM1969RM Месяц назад

      @@Milestomemories I agree 100% but that strategy works if you have a solid MVP and a good business plan with a defined market segment! Durango has none of those: an identity crisis, pulling in all directions and hoping for the best. Lets not confuse Durango hotel with its casino. The casino will be successful. Question is all about the hotel portion. Durango has a small quiet boutique hotel connected to a contradictory large mega-resort type of busy casino. Its hotel targets tourists (who would spend money at the strip or downtown) but its casino targets locals who don't need a hotel room, so one doesn't fully feed the other. The hotel is not targeting people who want to stay on the strip or in big resorts, which leaves people who want smaller resorts for their low price, being quiet or personalized luxury. Problem is: Durango is none of these! It charges luxury-type room rates but unlike Red Rock it doesn't feel luxurious, nor offers luxurious amenities nor has many fancy food/entertainment options (but has tons of fast food...). Unlike GVR, it is not quiet either! Durango hotel needs a new market strategy or it will become either:
      (1) an obscure expensive place that doesn't get clients and only reaches max occupancy when other places get full, like Polo towers and Jockey Club
      or (2) The next Palace Station: Starting strong but nowadays struggling to break even and has to resort to giving huge discounts.
      Also I realized that I made a mistake: Durango is 5 stars, not 4. I guess I made that mistake because it gives 4-star vibes!

    13:39 Who designs these rooms? This setting should have the chairs facing the table, and each other so you have a sit-down view out of the window, and can either eat, or play a game together. Why face the chairs toward the bed, because of the tv? The best room I've had in Vegas was at Caesar's Palace back in the 90's for $150 a night. We were placed in a newly renovated room with aqua green/blue design, and it had a jacuzzi in the room. It wasn't a suite, just a regular sized room, but it was done in a classy manner, the tub was integrated well, and didn't look out of place. I would bet that room now would be $300, but still a good deal for that level of quality, and don't get me started on the service which was also the best I've ever had at a casino. I wonder if Caesar's is still this good? New sub!👍😎✌🗽

      Yeah, it's become a town about greed! How much can we charge before patrons get upset, and won't come anymore? One thing keeping me away is the table minimums! $10/$15 min play on blackjack, and craps is way to much for my blood. I used to go with $3000 gambling money, and was comfortable at $3/$5 minimums, but 10/15, forget it!
