Despite the laughable voice acting, this is a very deep ending. X understands the pain and sorrow that has occured throughout the game, and he understands that should he turn Maverick, he wants his friend and mentor to take him out rather than anyone else. X realizes that the Maverick virus will continue on, and he believes that he'll be affected, though he won't, and he wants his friend to oust him for him, should he turn. That is deep, and I am a nerd.

@@jgl1003 Yes but actually no. Inafune wanted to turn X into a Maverick just so Zero could be the protagonist of his own series. If it weren't for Mega Man X6, there would be no Copy X. X deserves better than be cast aside completely in favor of Zero.

Giygas_95 it wasnt because of that. Zero knows X worries a lot and he knows its his greatest feature. But zero is amoral, he diesnt discern right to wrong or justice and kindness. So he told that because X is like a moral guardian for him

I'm glad X6 exists. It's clear to me that Keiji Inafune made this ending not for it's deepness or anything like that, just so he could turn Zero into the protagonist at the cost of X's character. X deserves better than that.
Inafune made MMZ anyway, but we saw that it was just a fan fiction of his own character.

Now, Megaman Zero was originally going to have X as the villain and not Copy X. If that had happened, this ending would have been much more interesting.
And it was supposed to be, Keiji wasn't expecting Capcom to make X6 back then, so... yeah, he mean this cutscene to foreshadow the events of MMZ.
Copy X isn’t necessarily “not the real X”. It is X’s body from the Fairy Wars, corrupted by a dark fairy and Dr. Weil / Dr. Vile.

I actually kinda like X’s voice. I know it doesn’t match the character in the slightest but I do think it sort of shows how innocent and somewhat naive X is.
Me too. And I feel the same way about Mega Man’s voice in MM8 (since Ruth voiced both him and X). They sound pretty adorable too.

I also love the way he says "don't be ridiculous", because it's more like "ridicuhlous". In general here, he doesn't sound like he's denying X's concern, he sounds like he just doesn't want to be bothered with any of it!

Ruth Shiraishi actually seems like a sweetheart in the videos I’ve seen of her on RUclips. She was just simply miscast in this role. Her voice actually reminds me an awful lot of Sherry Lynn.
I can't forget this ending of two in this friggin' amazing game I was introduced to at a very young age. I love how X's playthrough is just a storyline task of retiring Maverick after Maverick for the sake of the world and all life, and that in 4 he seems particularly hated by almost everyone for being what he is and doing what he does, challenged by a formidable row of opponents and odds that defy his cause. Masterminded by the dreadful wraith that is Sigma and his corrupting influence on Reploids. It always stood out to me how lonely X's journey is and the trials he has to overcome in order to get the job done and save the day, his mind visited by the horrors of the conflict and the opposition of his enemies. I love also how Zero is just flatly confident and faithful in his partner's integrity and capability as a Maverick Hunter, yet observes his concerns and reciprocant confidence. It's one of the most inspiring scripts, haunting and chilling concerning the darkness that surrounds but X being the living weapon and representative of peace he is and confronting every challenge with singleness of heart and an immovable spirit. A miserable and trauma-inducing war but a satisfying and solemn ending, getting to finally go home and rest with his fellow soldiers and best friend.
Who the hell listened to that voice and said "Yep. That is definitely the voice we want to give to our badass war machine!" lol

I loved it when I first listened to it around 10 years ago and still loving it. X is too innocent, the voice fits perfectly.
I mean I'm 19~20 years old with a beard, my voice is soft when I'm calm and carefree, why not X?
^He is innocent, not a fucking robot maid. Mark Gatha nailed what X should be like and fucking owned it when he arrived. Pity he had to go but at least he'll be remembered for his epic delivery unlike this here.

X's voice actor is the same one as Mega Man's in "Mega Man 8."
I still wish they finally tied in the Mega Man series with the X series. From what I have heard Zero wasn't supposed to have killed the original cast. But honestly, how can that be possible for him not to kill the cast, yet Bass, Roll, Duo, Proto Man, Rush and Mega Man are nowhere to be seen, despite robots living for eons?
What I figure is that Wily released Zero, who Zero kills, probably because of his instability, even if he wasn't intentionally trying to kill Wily. Zero fights and destroys Bass, Proto Man, even Duo and Rush. Mega Man tries to stop Zero, but Zero is too powerful, so Mega Man self destructs to try to stop him, which is just enough to put Zero in a stasis mode, where he is awaken later on by Reploid scientists, and then causes havoc, forcing various units and Sigma himself to confront him
Basically Mega Man has to be dead. They have already established that X and Mega Man are two different robots, especially in the OVA, where he is building X from scratch. Even X didn't even know who Light was until Light told him who he was and why he was being created. If Wily or Zero were still a threat, obviously Dr. Light wouldn't have made a robot with AI. Because the whole reason why he had X put to sleep was to do diagnostics and he feared he may have been too dangerous to be released just yet. If Wily or Zero were still around, Light would have made another Mega Man to combat him. But the threat was eliminated. Light seemed to be all alone, too. Don't see Roll, Auto, or other bots. Light saw the threat was eliminated but wanted to finish his magnum opus before he died, seeing how it wasn't long before he died of old age.
perhaps they thought X was a boy like the classic Megaman. This game was released shortly after Megaman 8 right? that's what I thought when I was a kid. It still sounded weird though. X is supposed to sound older than Megaman.

Agreed. This ending was AMAZING. It's a window to the future battle of X against Zero in X5.
I think zero and x ending are both canon. Zero finish his battle against colonel , and iris and probably general while x battled colonel but zero destroyed him completely then double and sigma. Zero returned to hq first before x.
Zero’s ending is canon too, as you seen at the end of X5 he remembers iris before dying

Honestly I never expected his voice actor would be a girl. But I kinda accepted it because I felt like that is his signature voice. I also like to think Dr. Light gave him this voice because he wanted him to sound like a kid.

I was not expecting that for X's voice. Zero's isn't half bad. You have to remember, this is before the times when video games didn't have big budgets to hire nice voice actors let alone voice actors being available to do such. Though, X's voice here could work for the orinigal Mega Man.
The person who voiced X also voiced Mega Man in Mega Man 8. I think It was a she.

Great story. Not only is it about a hunter reploid with the task of taking out his former allies turned maverick, but it also deals with x fighting to stay true to his cause and not joining them. Great story.

it's somehow funny how the oldest robots in the new era turns out to be the only ones immune to maverick virus. I can imagine X and Zero's AIs are like a literally bricks to reprogram or copy paste. Light and Wily's geniuses were truly unmatched for aeons.

God, these endings always tore me apart. The bloodshed, the suffering, the misleading, all because of Sigma. He tricked these people into thinking they were in danger, which led to them defending themselves against a danger that didn't exist until their very last breath.
This game probably has one of the most tragic stories I've ever played through.

Once you return to base. I'll introduce you to them. And one more thing X, I understand your frustration. The Repliforce would've been great allies in the battle against the Mavericks. I wish we could reprimand Dragoon for his actions, but you already did that. Please keep your emotions in check as you introduce yourself. Signas out.

This [English Dub] is incredible, the year I was born in [1997].
If your a good robot, most of the time they turn bad (like sigma)...this is the whole concept of becoming a Maverick, visa-verse if your bad you become good....(like Zero)

Honestly I really liked the animated cutscene and the voice acting in X4, I know the voice acting could’ve been better but at the same time, it felt like I was watching part of a movie, I found the cutscenes enjoyable, I dont know why they didn’t do this for X5 because X5 only really had pictures and text but no like actual cutscenes going on and no voice acting. X4 May had unfitting voices for the characters but I still found these cutscenes enjoyable, I do wish they would’ve gave X more screen time in the cutscenes (not counting gameplay) in his story though. He’s the main character and we only really see him in a cutscene in the ending, as for Zero’s he’s in almost every cutscene. Through his story you find out more about his past and it just feels that Zero has a lot more going on in his story than X’s, X’s just mainly focuses on what’s going on in the present, the cutscenes for X doesen’t really share X’s point of view, or what he’s going through most the time, don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, I just felt they could’ve done more with X. In my opinion, Zero had a better story but X had a better ending, just the fact he tells Zero that if he were to become a maverick Zero has to take care of him and make sure he doesen’t harm others. This was my favorite Megaman X game out of them all to be honest. And the X series has always been my favorite Megaman series of them all by far

Long story short; Yes.
To add more to that, play MMX5 where really no one is a Maverick yet you still have to kill them because you need the items that they are withholding and they do not like the Maverick Hunters. The virus that they are infected with is just a side thing really.
Assuming the permanent elements from both campaigns are canon, if you consider the fact that Zero literally just had to kill Iris only a short time earlier because she went Maverick, it's no wonder Zero wanted to put an end to _that_ conversation as quickly as possible...

Ruth Shirashi sounds much more convincing as X as opposed to her work in Mega Man 8 (which was nothing short of awful). Maybe it's the darker and more dramatic sorytelling, the more serious characters, I dunno. But...I bought it.

Everyone comments on the bad voice acting...but seriously I enjoy it much more than much of the stuff out there these days. It's funny that the voice acting is so obviously poor but so entertaining at the same time. Id have to say it is a trademark of the series ;)

maybe this is why Inafune plans to want X become the final boss in megaman Zero, and initial name "Neo Arcadia" should be Elysium. (according to X5's bad ending)
But that all changed when Megaman X6 was created without Inafune's knowledge, causing his initial idea fall apart.

@MetalUzuki08 I think they did it on purpose..it adds to his character as being innocent. Zero always had a more masculine voice because his character was intended evil and his personality is alot darker. I loved zero's expression when x asked him that question..i almost died!
