My sincere appreciation for bringing the music of this legend back. Growing up in Ibadan, I got to know Eddy in in mid 60s. He performed at the grandstand hotel. Except for name, no one hardly knew he was not Yoruba. He was gifted.
This kinda music reminds me now in my early 70's how SWEET this country of ours used to be... When our southern musicians prided themselves on capability of rendering in Yoruba, Igbo, Kalabari, Urhobo, Efik, etc
.
Beautiful piece, brings back great memories
What a tune. So soothing
Eddy okonta the obi of trumpet, the great musician who shook ibadan in the early 1950 and 1960 at the famous paradise club (the present femi johnson building at dugbe) it very unfortunate things went wrong for him when he survived a motor accident which almost claimed his life which left him leaping, he proceed to Lagos but things where not like before for him, I really felt like crying when I heard his life story from one of his band member Mr tajudeen Ajibike. Eddy okonta died in punnry. May God continue to rest ur soul the asaba born highlife legend
Gone are the days
A masterpiece 🙌Thanking GOD for the gift of ears to listen and enjoy this. I can't just get tired listening to it . An evergreen. Always bringing back great old memories . It's so sad the present generation can't produce good music as this.
GOD bless and keep all of us. Amen
This must be the song that my grandparents heard to name me 'Bisi. I got this song by anyone that it old my name. This and Ebenezer Obey's CashMadam song
That's from the evergreen album, 'Board Members'.🙂
By Obey: Bisi Edionseri... Cash Madam.
This is classical music. Highlife entertainment. Good times Eddy. Old school music.
Classic song. Back in the 60's, you have to see Eddy Okonta perform this live. You must also wait to for Oriwo. I had the several opportunities to see him live. I actually played this song with my High School Band "Viking 7" in 1968 at our graduation ceremony.
Kola Adeeyo
A big fan but never saw him live in lbadan. Bukola Siyanbola (my neighbour who is late) was crazy about him and Eric Akaeze back in the 1960’s!
Any one who has Oriwo, please upload. Oriwo in the 60s my top favorites. This guy Eddy is a great highlife musician. I am highly impressed with his music and also Cardinal Rex Lawson.
1968....We on the Biafran side of that fraticidal war lost those rare opportunities to benefit from such creative performances of Eddie Okonta, Roy Chicago, Victor Olaiya, Eric Arinze, etc
Highlife music of Eddy Okonta during the time highlife rules the airwaves in Nigeria was one of the front runners in the music industry.
Baba Nla.. good ol' memories!!
l pray the coming musicians can have the patience and brilliance to play like these old masters and still keep their originalities. Music of the old is very creative and sensible than the present
Honestly speaking I don't think there will be anything like this again it comes just one's in life time
What a blast!
The classics.my heart and soul weeps for dissapearance of solid music like that of this Eddie Okonta..great instrumentations..
Awesomely great beat! Bless the gentle soul of my Idol!

Thanks for the upload of this album. Eddy Okonta was a great musician and can compose well in Yoruba language. I don't know if he is still living. He was at the top of high life music chat of the old school.
