Interesting vid Dom. What's the additional cooling area of your single FMIC v the two standard ones and did you notice any performance gains from fitting the FMIC? Perhaps someone out there can design and manufacture a third, long thin intercooler to replace the long connecting pipe between the two standard intercoolers. This is the upgrade I would go for if it was available. DJ

I agree with everyone here as this is a great video and we all appreciate you making them,, the only thing is we need the overall length of all the pipes! There is so many lengths of all of them out there it makes my head spin.. Would hate to purchase the incorrect piping lengths.. thanks
Hey, pipe lengths are usually 150mm each side, will require some trimming and each fitting may be different, as people route than ever so slightly differently or have different parts, that is a good basic measurement to go from

Interesting and well explained. I am wondering why Audi didn't just fit a front mount as it must have been cheaper than the standard arrangement. Have you noticed any drop in effectiveness of the air-conditioning or warmer running temps?
that is a question I often ask myself, temps wise are you may notice a small rising coolant temperature however the cooler air makes for a nicer running car with additional horsepower, Aircon wise I have seen no issues as the fans that cool the system are very efficient when they work

Hi. Can you add the front mount intercooler to the original system by removing the cross pipe and piping it into the new front mount? You would end up with the side intercoolers and the front mount? Would this work and be more efficient?
That would take some serious doing, as you would struggle to get the pipework to not foul each other, you need to remove the side callers to allow the pipework to travel up to where I need to go, unless you've got some custom made you would struggle
Were you able to measure any performance increase? The one thing I don't like about this set up is it introduces a lot of radiant heat from the radiator to the intercooler which the stock system completely circumvents. It seems that a
Thanks for the comment, yes when fitting the 600x300 cooler I noticed quite a difference in performance, better acceleration at the top of gears, iat’s had dropped quite a lot too. My previous stock system was all be it on its last legs so that may have swayed the figures a little more. I did look at the smaller coolers but decided the bigger one would still offer cooling for more air even if the crash bar was there. If for the most part the cooler is getting good air flow it would still cool the upper section a certain amount anyway.
You used the Welly cooler which has core dimensions of 600mm x 300mm and is 76mm deep. The kit in your link from Gravity Performance has the same core of 600mm x 300mm but is only 60mm deep. Do you think that difference matters regarding cooling capacity, or is there not much in it? Obviously, the Gravity kit comes with all custom hard pipe for a precise fit with no bumper bar trimming - or at least, that's what they claim.
There should not be too much in it, its still a lot bigger than the stock side coolers and the original pipework is 63mm anyway so cant carry too much more

Yes but just be careful as some of the core's are not good enough for use, if you drop me an email or a message on the socials ill give you some pics as to what i mean
I would like to do this to mine, but i will have to do a little more digging as i only have the 180 and they only have one intercooler on the drivers side. so the pipe runs are going to be diffrent
Yes with the 180 the inlet spout is on the left hand side & instead of a charge pipe the inter cooler pipe goes up the left hand side. Look at inter cooler fitting on say a mk4 golf turbo. Pipe work will be similar to that. ( cooler mounting like I did will work still just the pipe work differs )
Hi Dom couple of questions before I go done this route. 1 Did you retain the headlamp (Alien) washers? 2 The weight of the fmic is around 30lbs have you noticed any changes to the handling, with stock suspension. Cheers
It is possible to retain the aliens but requires a little additional pipework ( more joints) one of my aliens did not work so i removed them completely as going to get a new bumper soon ( 180) with no aliens in. weight wise I noticed no difference in the nose of the car post fitment. hope this helps
Do you struggle to heel-and-toe? As my brake pedal is way lower than the accelerator when I’m braking meaning I can’t reach the accelerator to rev match
It’s funny you should mention that, I was thinking about this the other day, i’ll be honest I’ve not actually really tried yet, as the car has needed so much doing I’ve barely driven it. I’ll have a go in the week and let you 😂
Hi again, im looking at the Gravity kit do you know if they are any good and if there a good fit, and will i need extra hoses to join to MAP and charge pipe . Thanks
The gravity kit I’ve heard fits well, all there stuff seems pretty good. I would double check if they have a map sensor boss on it or not. It should do unless it finishes before the map pipe
@@TheParrottBros hey man I love your videos! Thanks for the reply. I managed to find the same intercooler that you have, here in US ebay. I really wanted the same hoses you had (look so nice) but they cost more to import than what they were priced 😢. I managed to find the pieces here in the US though
Not a single one, when fitting them is worth making sure the both the pipes and the silicon are clean and on straight and your clips are on a reasonable distance in. Also that they are a good Snug fit
The pipework is a different orientation on the 180, for a rough idea of routing search RUclips for either a mk4 golf or any other 180 platform like a3 etc. The pipework goes in reverse as your inlet manifold points the other way
There is still space at the top for air to pass directly through the coolant rad, also the fins in the cooler are large thus allowing plenty of air flow through during normal driving. I will be monitoring the coolant temps while running, I’ve not heard any issues from others when I’ve researched. Thanks for watching

There is one used tt owner removed the ac for the front mount intercooler but wasnt sure tt has to remove the ac or not in order to use the aftermarket intercooler. David Nunes you lose a little bit of torque low-end, but you gain a lot more top end, Best things you can do is turbo intake five oversized, Front mount intercooler and a large filter, then get it Mapped. Makes a world of a diff
The map sensor / black pipe stays in the way it’s been done, i explain where it is and that it stays the way I’ve done it. It’s under the battery. You can buy a pipe off eBay which is like 6” long and you just put it between 2 silicone pipes if you want to remove the stock pipe

Great vid man I'm thinking of fitting one myself very soon!!! Just a doubt on the overall length of the metal/silicone pipes. By any chance do you have links of each hose you bought? Or do roughly what are the lengths of each pipe? Thanks in advance!!
Richy Moreno thanks , the BLACK ALUMINIUM PIPE APPROX 63MM / 2.5" DIAMETER APPROX 460MM LENGTH. The silver ones were 300mm overall. If you search eBay for 90 degree aluminium 63mm you will find what you need
@@TheParrottBros perfect!!! Just had a doubt on the overall length so a foot over here on the states should be perfect. I will try to piece all this together as soon as possible hopefully get it by this weekend and mount!!! Thanks again for everything!!
To my knowledge the 225 is 4wd, to be Fwd it would be a 150/180hp model in which it’s a different turbo and the pipe work is routed differently. Thanks for watching
Ideally I'd like to fit this without hacking the bumper, so maybe a more "circular" 90 degree front piece would work? Also I suppose you didnt have to remove the headlight washers from the car, correct? I've seen some FMICs in the garage I take the TT and they look horrible in terms of fitment... You recon that ebay kit would fit better? Not a bad price it has...
The issue with the bumper trimming is the outlets of the cooler no matter what angle you put on will fowl the bumper. I recon if you used a straight joiner then pipe work 90 it would fit better as that’s slimmer. That kit looks to be a slightly better fit as it’s been made with a real car as a template and on Facebook a couple people have fitted it and said it goes straight on without issue. Couldn’t tell you if they had to trim the bumper or not though we haven’t asked. Thanks for watching
The fans usually are the cause of issues unless you have a head gasket issue. The fan resistors usually fail and then the fan may not run on either the lower of faster speed may not work. Put the a/c on and see if the fans run. If they don’t you have the problem. Also check the fuses on top of the battery as there may be signs of getting hot or a fuse blown
The Parrott Bro’s this was a car I was doing to buy was only £700 temp goes into red but the fans did not come on at all the fuses were fine so I would of thought yea it’s the fans as surely they would come on to cool it down
Just be careful buying one with a mechanical problem if you’re not particularly mechanical minded as these can be very expensive to repair. On mine a little fan did not work, so we had nothing And then the big fan would come on, I switched out the whole fan pack. Was a massive front off job and could have been expensive if I didn’t do it my self
The Parrott Bro’s yea I know I have changed my mind on having one for a daily picking one up tomorrow which has problems but drives so will have the TT for fun and my other car as a daily for now
I couldn’t give you a figure as of yet but it will give a good increase as it dramatically changes the intake temps, the car feels stronger throughout the Rev range too which is something it never used to do
Yes, it’s easier with 2 x 90 degree bends off the cooler to retain headlight washers. The 45 degree sits really close/ touches the headlight washer pipe.
The Parrott Bro’s Cheers mate! I’ve heard a few different intercooler setups have caused the washers to no longer function, including some pretty expensive ones, so this setup is not only cheaper than most other kits but also retains the headlight washer feature. Happy days!
Craig Teale-Jones the only other thing I would recommend after helping a few friends out. Is you can use straight joiner reducer on cooler then use hard pipe 90 from there as that will be smaller and give more space
unfknknown if you stand at the front of your car looking at your engine. Does your engine look like mine with the the 90 degree charge pipe on left. If not you have a 180.
As long as its a decent manufacture you should be ok, i believe car chris had a bad one from gravity performance, but all the normal names like creation motorsport etc should be ok
Hey Dom, great work as usual. I just searched your channel for info on radiator upgrades for improved cooling. I know the 1.8 can be upgraded with aluminium performance radiators, but I'm struggling to find a similar upgrade for my 3.2. Do you know much in this area, or does your Bentley manual give dimensions for both 1.8 and 3.2 rads to see if mounting would be inter-compatible? Could I put a 1.8 performance rad on my 3.2? Thanks for any advice you can offer, PK
I found these dimensions and they look very close... the V6 is 1 cm thicker... I want to fit a dual core aluminium radiator ... dimension comparison here between 1.8 and 3.2 rads - drive.google.com/file/d/1DvgWY1Wf6ZQU2bc9qHVsuw4rPejtzTEY/view?usp=sharing
Hey PK, this is not something I have particularly looked into, Aaron has put a bigger radiator on, similar to this one badger5.co.uk/intercooling/csf-alloy-radiator-mk4-platform the only thing i will say is he does not have A/C and i can imagine the wider alu cooler may fowl the a/c and require some fettling to make work 😅

Is decaf 3 inch down pipe ok to install and do you think that will be a problem if you have your MOT.
Decat will fail an Mot on emissions,
If you do not know, a friendly MOT tester, I would recommend getting a sports cat.
They are not a particularly easy installation
@@TheParrottBros thank a lots.
The link for the cooler is no longer there. Is it the toyosports one
Hey man did you ever figure your out? I am looking to mine and can’t figure out where to connect the other side behind the motor. Anything helps
Were you able to keep the headlight washers?
Yes mate, it’s easier to maintain the headlight washers with 90’s of both sides of the cooler, will just about touch on them
Hi Dom couple of questions before I go done this route.
I’ll have a go in the week and let you 😂
Rory Towers to be honest, I’ve never had issues heel toeing in my car.
What dimensions was the steel you made the brackets of
just some 3mm strips buddy
@@TheParrottBros thank you. Great videos. Saved me so much time and effort
Hey I think you are missing a 45degree silicone reducer on your list, since you didn’t use both of the 90s
I put 2 90’s as it depends if your using the 90’s on both sides or 1 90 and 1 45 either side of the intercooler it’s self. I used 1 of each
@@TheParrottBros hey man I love your videos! Thanks for the reply. I managed to find the same intercooler that you have, here in US ebay. I really wanted the same hoses you had (look so nice) but they cost more to import than what they were priced 😢. I managed to find the pieces here in the US though

Is this an existing intercooler you are reposity, or a new add-on?
@@USMC1970 it’s a new add in, the stock intercoolers are small side mounted ones
@ ok! Learning a lot from you. Keep up the good work! Its 6:45 pm here. Tuesday evening. Have a better one!
Did those little clamps blow off?
Not a single one, when fitting them is worth making sure the both the pipes and the silicon are clean and on straight and your clips are on a reasonable distance in. Also that they are a good Snug fit
common flaw in youtube vids...
No drive byes or ride alongs.
Love to see them
Great video mate! Just wondering if you know if the cooler would fit the 180 version
The pipework is a different orientation on the 180, for a rough idea of routing search RUclips for either a mk4 golf or any other 180 platform like a3 etc.
The pipework goes in reverse as your inlet manifold points the other way
@@TheParrottBros thank you soo much!!! 👊🏻
While the air flows through the FMIC, will it restrict air flow enough to effect the cooling capabilities of the coolant radiator?
There is still space at the top for air to pass directly through the coolant rad, also the fins in the cooler are large thus allowing plenty of air flow through during normal driving. I will be monitoring the coolant temps while running, I’ve not heard any issues from others when I’ve researched. Thanks for watching
Guys, do you need to remove the ac permanently in order to fit the aftermarket inter cooler?
No, Air con works fine alongside a intercooler system
@TheParrottBros so for daily driving car in hot areas, this would be like suicide....
@@BaDiLi2L You can keep your air con and run a front mount intercooler system i dont understand
@@TheParrottBros sorry i thought you said it wont work... i was drunk or somethin lol thats cool! There is one used tt owner removed the ac for the front mount intercooler but wasnt sure tt has to remove the ac or not in order to use the aftermarket intercooler. I guess i can get the ac compressor and put it in
Would this work on a S3 8l?
Yes but the pipework under the lights and into the bumper may differ slightly
Do you have alot of lag with that intercooler on a stock turbo mate? Thanks
David Nunes you lose a little bit of torque low-end, but you gain a lot more top end, Best things you can do is turbo intake five oversized, Front mount intercooler and a large filter, then get it Mapped. Makes a world of a diff

What did you do with the Map sensor that was on the old intercooler. I did my forge front mount intercooler but didn't see a place for the sensor.
The map sensor / black pipe stays in the way it’s been done, i explain where it is and that it stays the way I’ve done it. It’s under the battery. You can buy a pipe off eBay which is like 6” long and you just put it between 2 silicone pipes if you want to remove the stock pipe

Nice guide, but when you order the parts make sure yo get a 45 degree 76mm to 63mm reducer and 1 90 degree 76mm to 63mm
Great vid man I'm thinking of fitting one myself very soon!!! Just a doubt on the overall length of the metal/silicone pipes. By any chance do you have links of each hose you bought? Or do roughly what are the lengths of each pipe? Thanks in advance!!
Richy Moreno thanks , the BLACK ALUMINIUM PIPE
APPROX 63MM / 2.5" DIAMETER
APPROX 460MM LENGTH.
What’s is the list of the parts? This is awesome!!
Parts list is in the video description 🤙🏻
hey is this the same as the 1.8t fwd? I'm new to cars thankyou
@@TheParrottBros thanks for the reply!
Hi Parrott Bro's, do you have any top tips on how to get the torque settings right on MK1 Audi TT front struts, cant seem to the correct tool to do it
*find*
Question Audi TT mk1 180 goes to 110 after about 40 mins of driving any common faults with the heating on the TTS
The Parrott Bro’s this was a car I was doing to buy was only £700 temp goes into red but the fans did not come on at all the fuses were fine so I would of thought yea it’s the fans as surely they would come on to cool it down
The Parrott Bro’s also no smoke or oil or coolant loss on the coolant sensor side looks like it had a leak
Just be careful buying one with a mechanical problem if you’re not particularly mechanical minded as these can be very expensive to repair. On mine a little fan did not work, so we had nothing
And then the big fan would come on, I switched out the whole fan pack. Was a massive front off job and could have been expensive if I didn’t do it my self
The Parrott Bro’s yea I know I have changed my mind on having one for a daily picking one up tomorrow which has problems but drives so will have the TT for fun and my other car as a daily for now
What was the HP increase?
I couldn’t give you a figure as of yet but it will give a good increase as it dramatically changes the intake temps, the car feels stronger throughout the Rev range too which is something it never used to do
The Parrott Bro’s are you sure that wasn’t due to leaks in the old piping ?
ThatGuyNamedScott. C the old piping was smoke and pressure tested when I got the car as was no issues with the cooler system.
The Parrott Bro’s ahh sweet! Good tutorial!
Were you able to retain the headlight washers with that setup?
Yes, it’s easier with 2 x 90 degree bends off the cooler to retain headlight washers. The 45 degree sits really close/ touches the headlight washer pipe.
The Parrott Bro’s Cheers mate! I’ve heard a few different intercooler setups have caused the washers to no longer function, including some pretty expensive ones, so this setup is not only cheaper than most other kits but also retains the headlight washer feature. Happy days!
Craig Teale-Jones yeah man, just take your time when doing it and offer the bumper up a few times when doing it haha
Craig Teale-Jones the only other thing I would recommend after helping a few friends out. Is you can use straight joiner reducer on cooler then use hard pipe 90 from there as that will be smaller and give more space
Awesome video mate
Thanks buddy
Nearly 200 pound in hoses plus intercooler . On top of that almost cheaper to buy a proper intercooler with hoses etc included
I thought it was gona be 60 quid all the hoses 😂
Prices have increased quite a bit since the making of the video, the Core used to cost £75. Now they are £120+
@@TheParrottBros tbh gona cost 300 quid for intercooler with pipes no bad tbh
Will the pipes be similar on a 1.8t 8l a3??
unfknknown is it a 180 or a 225?
@@TheParrottBros idk?
unfknknown if you stand at the front of your car looking at your engine. Does your engine look like mine with the the 90 degree charge pipe on left. If not you have a 180.

unfknknown the way I’ve done it will be different to how you will need to I’m afraid
What front splitter is that?
It’s a MK1 Leon Cupra R splitter, if you have a look In my Tt playlist there is a fitting video. Thanks for watching
What intercooler you use which company
As long as its a decent manufacture you should be ok, i believe car chris had a bad one from gravity performance, but all the normal names like creation motorsport etc should be ok
@@TheParrottBros yes i think he had to remove headlight washers or something .
Was thinking of 2 performace side mount ones .
I can buy 2nd hand artec intercoller but seller says off 180bhp but unsure if will fit or not mine being 225bhp model
It wont, the pipe work is a different orientation as different turbo and inlet manifold is the other side
