  • This is the first video from my Tamiya Frog restore project. In this video I will tear down the entire Frog. This project has been a year in the making. The body shell paint stripping was a major pain.
Stay tuned for the Build and Time lapse videos. I hope you enjoy!

Everything but the body looks fun and I would enjoy it! That body stripping, yeah, that looks miserable!! I knw not all of them are going to be this bad but that would have made me go to eBay and find something else! You have much more patience than I do!! looking forward to the rest of the re-build and thanks for sharing!!!

Patience or stupidity, not sure which. Glad you enjoyed it!

I thought I was the only one to paint the body with green highlights instead of pink back in the 80s. This brings back memories. I did end up replacing the servo AA battery pack to run off the main 7v. At some stage the car developed the gearing grinding problem and being the 80s didn’t have a way to research the cause and I lost interest and it sat gathering dust for about 10 year or more until I found out someone in my Toyota car club had a bunch of rc cars and I gave him the broken frog.

Somehow the green is a little more fitting for something called The Frog. The gearbox design was not the best.

Get a few gallons of LA's Totally Awesome cleaner from the dollar store. Submerge the body in the cleaner at full strength. It's perfectly safe on Polycarbonate/Lexan. The paint will lift off in a few days with a few warm, water rinses. You can re-bottle the cleaner for multiple uses. I will normally strain it through a coffee filter and funnel to remove the paint chips. Works great on polycarbonate paint (lacquer and enamel too). No brake fluid mess...

Thanks for the tip! I will give that a try next time.
