The hard part about social anxiety is that sometimes it just goes out of control, sometimes when i'm at the university and when i meet my class mates especially girls i just can't lift my head to look them in the eyes damn... and after we leave i just feel a huge wave of negative emotions.

I've been forcing myself to go to social events alone to meet people for the past 2 months. What I've realized is that it's not as scary as my brain told me it was going to be.
I've had negative experiences in the past at social events. But the more you put yourself in uncomfortable situations, the easier it gets.

I’m sorry to hear this. I got it in year six, I know you probably don’t care but I want to talk about it - I need to get it off my chest 😂
I basically was quite a confident person up until year six, I really started to think about moving into secondary school. I always thought, I want t9 be the year 7 who isn’t a twat, who doesn’t annoy everyone. However, I tried too hard, I think I had social anxiety in the background for a while, but never as bad as it is now. I used to be able to talk to most people. Now I just can’t. I was always afraid of being bullied, too, so I thought I’d be the kid who doesn’t necessarily talk much. I don’t want to be like that anymore, though. But I’m in a little too deep. I need to get better with social situations. The issue is, everything that is supposed to help you, is expensive.
There is also the though that everyone will be looking at me, watching, and judging me. I can’t walk without feeling weird. I have to put my hands in my pockets, I don’t even know why. I remember we had a speaking assessment in English, and to be honest, I think I did pretty well considering the situation. I had my hands in my pocket, and so my bitch of a teacher (she’s not a bitch because of this, she is a bitch because of many other things) told me that I shouldn’t. And it’s such a minor thing, but it’s massive on this scale, it’s almost as though, if I have my hands out of my pockets, people will see me and think, ‘why don’t you have your hands in your pockets, idiot’...
I know it makes no sense, but it’s how it is now. If anyone reading this can help, please do. Thanks

Having social anxiety, and being the new kid, in a new state, at a new college, really sucks.
I miss my friends and coworkers at home who I felt completely comfortable with, after we all got to know eachother its like that anxiety went away... I could flourish , and we'd all enjoy eachother's company.
Now I feel lost, and I get physically anxious when I want to walk up to a group and introduce myself, even though I want to.

When I walk down the street with my dog and I see people, I imagine they think I’m weird and awkward. I’ve started exposing myself by making eye contact and saying hi when we pass, but I also feel liked in doing it wrong.
It feels like I’m looking at them too intently and from too far away.
It’s sucks because I don’t know if that feeling is coming from general social awareness towards others or from social anxiety.
So I bounce between telling myself, “look at them, you’re just feeling anxious it’s nothing” and “don’t look at them. You’re staring at them/they’ll think you’re threatening and a creep for staring.” And enter an entire anxiety story because of this.
    Got any tips?

Yeah... except the reason I and so many people like myself have this in the first place is from dealing with a lifetime of malicious people or just being completely alienated. Example, I go to a new gym trying to work on myself... while my social anxiety isn't bad enough to stop me from going, it makes me feel pretty nervous and on guard at all times there. I'm just doing my own thing and have some asshole openly mock me and get the girl behind the front counter to join in on it. That or management at your job spreading horrible yet laughable rumors about you but being nothing but nice to your face. A lifetime of experiences like this has taught me I cannot trust anyone and even if I wanted to, I can't. It's so deeply engrained that it probably isn't even fixable anymore. A new person tries to talk to me and the only thing I can do is freeze up and get out of the situation as fast as possible. It's a terrible life.

I do all of those things and more. It's so hard because I'm taking time off of school to try and get this sorted out but I feel all alone. I thought I was getting better. I just had like a week where I felt confident and barely thought about what other people were thinking about me and I was around people the whole time but then today I woke up feeling fine and then I spiraled out at work and all it took was a couple tables being rude to me to trigger it and now I feel like I took 10 steps back. It just feels like this will always be my life :(

Thank you this really has helped me I have a speech issue among other issues now this has created my social anxiety more so I also been anxious before but this has just made worse. It could be my perception though as when I talk it is much better clearer but it's also my balance thinking people judge me it's not to bad now maybe social anxiety. I do challenge it and talk. I feel better already. The only way I see to challenge it is to talk for me personally put
My self in this situations which provoke anxiety ,to tell people I'm anxious perhaps cos my speech I also have a slight balance problem but I've started to think to deal with my confidence around this. I think tv ,magazines has portrayed perfection type thing to look perfect which is wrong . This has created anxiety too. Society's view on how you look ,sound people's beliefs on how you or sound if people could change their beliefs on this as perfection is non existent you can look good and be a arse hole! Looks or sound is superficial it's personality that also counts. You can look good sound good but be a bad person I am not . Mindfulness helps stay in present ,meditation. Hope this helps everyone I have a utube channel on positively if anyone interested

    1. As someone with social anxiety, what are the 2 biggest issues you’re dealing with?
    2. Regarding your social anxiety, what would you wish for more than anything else?

      2 biggest issues:
      - I want to talk to people, but my brain tells me not to. I don’t even know why, I think it’s because I’m telling myself that I’m being judged.
      - I can’t walk normal, if anyone is around I feel like I’m walking weirdly.
      - I really want to be able to speak to people, even yell, and not feel weird. I’d love to have the confidence I did last year :(

    I changed my diet also
I only drink decaf coffee that helped a lot
I stay out of things that don't concern me. Example
I found myself people pleasing and became very upset when things didnt go my way, almost like trying to control too much, over expectations of others
I just simply control the negative stuff and try not to over due things good or bad. It is my start it works a lot
Fight Against Negative things and add positive surroundings
Maybe this helps one you reading this
Just be honest with yourself about how you veiw things and try to be positive no matter what is happening
    Love yourself without hurting others

If I'm the center of conversational attention I become nervous. I have to swallow, which I try to hide. My eyes may start to water (I'll blame the lighting ) If someone makes too much eye contact with me while I'm the one doing the listening, I begin to avert my gaze, which is a faux pas.
I feel like I'm lying when I'm telling the truth.
If there's a round table headed my way my throat will become so dry that I sound like I have laryngitis when I speak.
I got it from my mom
My brother has an extreme version of the trait and it has rendered him nearly dysfunctional.
I hate it so much. I'm a musician who doesn't stand a chance of being a performer. The social schmoozing aspects are out of the question. I feel like my life would have gone in a completely different direction if I didn't have this condition.
I finally got a family doctor.
I'm going to bring it up at our next appointment.

@@Garrett_St yess I have dealt with it since at least middle school, and I will say it has gotten better in the recent couple of weeks, I realized when I made this post I was anticipating a big family reunion and the thought of that made my anxiety so bad, post that reunion it’s gotten some better.. but definitely not 100% it’s always there but doesn’t run my life like it did.. we will all get through this one way or another, and maybe exposure therapy will work? Obvi I didn’t exactly do that but during my trip I knew my triggers and tried to de-escalate the situation before it happened. Best wishes to you on your SA journey 💛💛💛
