Hi, first all good effort. Being an indian myself and moved from NYC to Oslo I agree with you for parts except 1. work life balance has nothing to do efficiency, in Norway people leave at 4 doesnt mean the work stops. once the dinner is over kids sleep, the work starts. It is flexible. 2. Wrt pay it is more about the tax structure so higher the pay taxed slabs are different as compared to US . Norway provides medical, education free unlike US. 3. Open work and flat culture depends as per the industry and amount of people. No point in having levels in 5 people organization. 4. Overtime depends on the grade/role and industry again . nothing unique to Norway. 5. You should also compare public sector vs private . Most of Norway is owned by public sector unlike US which is mostly private sector.
Hi, 1- ofcourse exceptions exist. The norm is that there no meetings after 16 and people do tend to wind up their day by then. Ofcourse if you work in IT or consulting things maybe different. 2 - yes, taxes are higher than US. But the CTC for an executive level job in US is easily more than what executives get paid in Norway. In general, the intent of making this video was to highlight the key differences on a high level without going into the nuances. A 10 minute video ofcourse wont include all the details.🙂
??? Most of Norway is owned by the public sector. Where do you find evidence for that theory or claim? That we have a larger public sector - yes - often because it is nationally economically profitable. But that does not mean that the public sector drives the sector. That part is privatized.
1. Norway work life balance *in general* is better than USA -- this is true, the keyword here is *general* 2. Its a double edged sword. USA has significantly better education so if you just want to study in Norway then you can use the free education, but if you want to study in the US AFTER living in Norway, it will be ridiculously expensive and the tax money you paid wasn't that useful. Professionals in USA get top health insurance from what I've seen so the free health care is also not that significant.

The best schools and most people with a college education in the world - can be found in Scandinavia - With Finland at the top and Norway in 3rd place. The United States is far down the list. There are some great universities in the USA - there you will find those with American scholarships, rich children from the USA, Asia, India and Europe as well and normal average people like Norwegians, Swedes and Danes who get loans and scholarships to go to these schools by the states. If you complete the school, part of the loan will become a scholarship - when you return. What is of interest is that in Norway you get back 84% of everything you pay in taxes through life - in the US 19%. If you have paid thousands of dollars in addition for a health insurance and you do not get sick - then you have subsidized the state. If you think that Norwegian hospitals or doctors here are worse than in the USA, then you must read international statistics again. Norwegian hospitals are some of the world's most modern and doctors and researchers at the same level. You can probably move to the USA and try to have a better life - if you are among the 10% who can do it, then you are good. Good luck.

I have lived in Norway FYI for several years (most of life in fact) and also USA and also Canada. I went to an international school and the graduates from their mostly didnt study in Norway but went to good schools in USA and UK and paid all cash so yeah you need money if you want the most top class education. NTNU, which is considered the best university in Norway is ranked #360 on QS. I take QS with a grain of salt anyway but this gives you an idea of the difference between Stanford and NTNU since NTNU is the Stanford of Norway. Norway is a great country but it definitely has some massive issues for those who are extremely career oriented. Don't forget the yearly wealth tax, which erodes away your money like inflation does.
