Well, Kaneki and Shinji are both timid, whiny, and "emo" characters. Kaneki is basically just an otter expo of Shinji, like Yuki from future diary, or Ganta from Deadman wonderland. Only difference is Kaneki changes into an edgy badass at the end of season 1
I give him a pass on being a wimp and crying and screaming as much as he does becuase for one what you said. And two while he was changed Internally it did nothing to his Morality and thoughts to him until his change at the end of season 1 he was to himself a human being not a Ghoul and pictured himself as a person doing this. When he accepts himself as a Ghoul he changes and is freaking awesome and becomes much stronger. And seriously that ending fight was Phonomenal
Punctuaction can be Helpful sometimes Did you Know that It Makes what you are Saying much Much easier to read if you Don't punctuate and just Capitalize random words it can Make things very Confusing for people So as a suggestion I suggest using Punctuation
The reason why it got so famous is simple, they were made by Studio Pierrot, and those guys definatly have a pact with some evil entity because everthing they do sells greatly and become famous no matter how shit it is (I don't hate Tokyo Ghoul but Pierrot did a lot of shit already)
There are some little things in this show that just piss me off because they ruin the whole set up for the world if you look into them at all. 1. Ghouls can drink COFFEE, therefore they can eat coffee beans and have an alternative right fucking there. 2. When you really think about this anime and how its ghouls aren't linked to magic or whatever the whole having to eat flesh to live thing makes no sense because human flesh isn't that different to other animals which we eat all the time. 3. If they had to eat flesh it could easily be fabricated in a lab so the whole premise for gouls falls apart. Also Season 2's ending JUST FUCKING MADE ME WANT TO KICK A PUPPY. Like I get cliffhanger endings and the reason for doing them, but this ending scene is so open it could go literally any where, it felt like a mid season climax or something.
If RC cells aren't magic, then the Force isn't magic because midichlorians. EDIT: Also haven't seen the show, but I remember in the manga they clearly state that coffee is a temporary substitute, they can't live off it. If they didn't make that clear in the show that's a huge oversight.
it was explained in the manga,so yeah this anime is a poor adaptation and it's much worse seeing it as a standalone product.If you really want to enjoy the series then just watch the manga unless it's good like AOT or Full metal alchemist,my hero academia then you can just stick to the anime.
AOT, SAO and Fate are some of the best looking and animated anime ever? Well, it's all personal preference, but as for animation (movement)- they have some brilliant sakuga, however it is in no way consistent. Visual aesthetic is personal preference, but generally we share opinions very similarly (Gankutsuou I think differently one)- I think your reviews are fantastic, but perhaps you could research things like studios, directors, and things of that sort and you might get some more appreciation out of what you like by knowing who's behind it- or who ruined something inserted. In short, great review.
I personally like the characterization. All the characters have sympathetic elements and makes you sad that they are slaughtering eachother in a never ending spiral of vengeance.
Tokyo Ghoul's anime doesn't do the series justice at all. While yes, like a lot of other anime, 11 Eyes included, has its dull and annoying moments, this actual manga for this anime makes a lot more sense because Kaneki doesn't JOIN them, he forms his own faction, becomes a sorta badass after losing his mind, and fights against the them while also simultaneously ready to fight the CCG at a moment's notice, but not being readily hostile unless provoked. It was awesome to watch Kaneki evolve form the whinny bastard he was, to accepting his role in the world and understanding of things and formulating his own drive and will to change the world.

Hm, I didn't expect this show to be reviewed. I remember, after the hype train died down, I marathoned the entire first season with my best friend because the opening had me intrigued, and I wanted to give the dub a shot. Now, while I did enjoy it for certain things (as a fan of fruits basket, I find it interesting how that and Tokyo ghoul took totally different stances on overly kind people, with FB considering those sort of traits good and TG considering those traits bad), I totally understand your points. And yeah, while I didn't really have an issue with Kaneki, your playing of his "catchphrase" was really amusing. As for the second season, I tried to get into it, but the first episode didn't leave anything for me to latch on to (and I didn't have a best friend to push me through it XD). From what I understand, though, even fans of Tokyo Ghoul despise the second season, so I don't think I'm missing much. Good review. :)
Yea it's completely understandable to want to hold off on activity on your channel when you have copyright issues going on. If the new video gets hit while you're still dealing with the older hit, things will get even more complicated and overwhelming. I think it's smart to just wait until it's resolved.
I'm personally one of those people that feels very iffy about Tsundere characters, because to be honest, I feel like the main character and the tsundere aren't good together, because of the dumb misunderstandings where she perceives the main guy as a perv despite the incident not being the main character's fault. I get the whole gradually having to open up to the main character and softening up a little, but after romance anime like Dragonaut, I know mecha anime aren't your cup of tea, but maybe give it a watch and decide whether it's up your alley and Snow White with the Red Hair, HUGE recommendation from me if you haven't seen it already, that have no dumb comedic misunderstandings between the main character and the love interest, I just wish the main character had a love interest that doesn't resort to brutal murder every time he accidentally peeks in or just omit the comedic misunderstanding altogether
Kira and Athrun in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed also have a Keneki- Amon relationship. The two are actually friends but circumstances place them on opposite sides. I won't tell you what becomes of their friendship but if you can tolerate the mecha genre, check it out. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Gundam Seed.
I hate to be 'that guy' but, the manga is SO much better. It fixes almost all the problems the show has and half the events that happened in the second season are non-existent in the manga.
But if everybody knows there are ghouls, and they have always existed, how can people even walk the streets, let alone have evolved the same way? I mean at least in Parasyte the parasites came into existence recently...
The manga is meant to be miles better, but I had a meh reaction to the anime as well. Having been in my local cosplay scene though, it might just be down to the edgy kids thinking Kaneki is the second coming of Alucard or some shit. No, kids. No one can topple the Crimson Fucker.
The 2nd season was a mess of different events from the manga, and the anime changed some of the events. Yes Kaneki leaves the cafe but he never joins the ghoul organization that tortured him. In the manga when kaneki leaves the cafe he forms his own ghoul organization to protect those he cares about from the group that tortured him.
The direction of both anime and manga, is that Kaneki was pre-chosen to be the one-eyed King. You can simply tell based off his first alias, One eye. Also SoA, actually sucked in the later seasons based on the story line.
Honestly, I found the internal struggle with Kaneki in season 1 a lot more than season 2 Kaneki. I thought he was kinda bland. I don't really like or dislike any other characters except Hide. Hide needed to get more screen time where he was built upon more. I get why Kaneki would be sad about his death, but we really didn't have a reason to care. Hide get a couple scenes in the beginning, a few short ones in s2 where he is seen looking for Kaneki, and then his death. I kinda feel like it's a Nina Tucker situation. I feel like a lot of people exaggerate how sad her death was, and again i get why Ed and Al are sad. But, I don't feel for her much because I've only known her for an episode or two ,and what i do feel for her is just based on the circumstances of her death.

Watch Haibane Renmei. It's a show that doesn't directly answer a lot of questions and leaves a lot up into interpretation, which usually annoys me, but it works for this show. It really makes you think. It's quite deep and beautiful. If you think you'd like something like this, then definitely give it a try. It's only 13 episodes, so you can get through it very quickly. I recommend just watching it for the experience, even if you are unsure about how you feel about it, especially since it's a short show. I hope he reviews this show one day. It is very different from the norm of anime. This is definitely a higher quality show. It's by the same creator as the Serial experiments of Lain, however even though I haven't seen that show, I know Haibane isn't as crazy and intense as that one. It is more relaxed. I would love to hear Shadow's thoughts on Haibane Renmei. I think he will be pleasantly surprised by what that show has to offer.
Hey, I saw Haibane Renmei, and man, did it blow me away. Animation seemed a bit dated, but the story, writing, characters, and ending more than make up for it. Everything about it blew me away, I loved it, the show was a masterpiece.

Oh, and how about that ending? Where some total moron randomly gets a wound that is NEVER EXPLAINED that keeps getting bigger for no reason at all, and so this idiot keeps letting the open wound get bigger and bigger and makes no attempt to treat it or get any help whatsoever, and he dies because he's too stupid to live. WOW, WHAT AN EPIC EMOTIONAL DRAMA THAT WAS!
I know this anime's sucks from an overall standpoint(mainly the second season. I did'nt have many problems with the first season tbh) but the soundtrack was absolutely phenomenal. It redeemed the anime a lot for me
Yeah, I couldn't get into this show for a lot of the same reasons. I feel similarly about a lot of other shows, including Aldnoah.Zero. Have you ever watched that one? One reason I like your reviews so much is that I can never guess how you'll feel about a given show. It's always a surprise. :)
I haven't seen this show or read the manga but I do know that some of the issues with the plot in the second season is because they diverged from the source material. Now, I'm not one to always object to changes like this, but the script writers have to know what they are doing. They have to make a good story on their own, and a lot of times they end up making a poorly written one. I have also heard from people that the adaptation in general wasn't as good as the source material. Now even though it is hard to deceiver if that is a legitimate complaint or if it is just more READ THE MANGA madness without having read the source material seen the show for myself, if that is the case. then it is understandable why people who are fans of the manga are upset. If you know something could have been better, but suffers from a poorly done adaptation, then that's such a missed opportunity. There are a decent amount of shows that do unfortunately suffer from a poorly done adaptation. Sometimes you can even tell if you haven't read the source material. Sometimes you can obviously see choppy transitions, making it apparent that they rushed through material. If this was in fact a case of them not doing the source material justice, then that is aggravating that anime viewers were deprived of a better story and overall experience when they could have had one.
Yea unfortunately this is one of those times were the anime didn't live up to the manga almost all your issues with it are resolved there but that doesn't make the anime better. In the second season they go off the rails and skip so much stuff and make up bull which makes no sense aka Kaneki joining Aogiri when in the manga he forms his own group to find the doctor who turned him into a ghoul
+A. L. Soryu I remembered that show, and I kinda liked it. I'm not usually a fan of horror, but there were exceptions such as Another and Higurashi. Shiki was also pretty good.
I don't really understand why people like Shiki so much. It's a show that tries to be morally ambiguous but it kinda fails at it. Mostly how the themes shift with the first half saying that vampires are evil and the second half saying they are not so evil. And almost all the characters are a mix of sympathetic that turn into assholes, assholes that turn likable, annoying or flatout unlikable characters and a supposed main character with barely any screen time.

My problem stands mostly to the structure of the story, not the story or the themes themselves. What I mean is that for most of the show they antagonise the vampires and victimise the humans, but, what it seems out of nowhere, they reverse the roles instead of showing both factions in equal terms.
Vladimir Auditore they are shown on equal terms. Just not at the same time. I don't see anything wrong with it. It is structured in a way that makes sense and follows the logic of the world. There are no problems with the story except for Natsuno becoming jinrou.
I think you were a little harsh on the animation. I know the standards have increased a lot in recent years, but a lot of the shows that have set those standards had the budget for it. You can't compare the budget Code Geass( akito the exiled the new ova series) and the Fate series get with most other series.

Just add a "T" in front of the word, and you would have spelled it close to what it is. It's basically a person, almost always or always females because I've never seen a male example, who is cold and hostile towards someone until they get to know them and warm up to them. I actually googled it so I could explain it better. Lol. If you've been watching anime for a while, you've probably have come across this character type already without knowing what they were called. This type of character is controversial because a lot of people feel it is overused, and if not done well, it can make that character just plain unlikable. Their emotions kind of go back and forth between being argumentative and sweet. It's a complicated contrast that not a lot of people can pull all well in characters.

This anime was just so SLOW. Feels like season 2 is even slower for some reason. I don't even know how that's possible. I had the biggest urge to just skip through most episodes; scenes are just too dang drawn out. Was even any overall plot...ugh sorry I'm just frustrated lol.

Last time I was this early i didn't realize how this joke is trash and overused.
I haven't seen this show or read the manga but I do know that some of the issues with the plot in the second season is because they diverged from the source material. Now, I'm not one to always object to changes like this, but the script writers have to know what they are doing. They have to make a good story on their own, and a lot of times they end up making a poorly written one. I have also heard from people that the adaptation in general wasn't as good as the source material. Now even though it is hard to deceiver if that is a legitimate complaint or if it is just more READ THE MANGA madness without having read the source material seen the show for myself, if that is the case. then it is understandable why people who are fans of the manga are upset. If you know something could have been better, but suffers from a poorly done adaptation, then that's such a missed opportunity. There are a decent amount of shows that do unfortunately suffer from a poorly done adaptation. Sometimes you can even tell if you haven't read the source material. Sometimes you can obviously see choppy transitions, making it apparent that they rushed through material. If this was in fact a case of them not doing the source material justice, then that is aggravating that anime viewers were deprived of a better story and overall experience when they could have had one.
Yea unfortunately this is one of those times were the anime didn't live up to the manga almost all your issues with it are resolved there but that doesn't make the anime better. In the second season they go off the rails and skip so much stuff and make up bull which makes no sense aka Kaneki joining Aogiri when in the manga he forms his own group to find the doctor who turned him into a ghoul
I found it enjoyable, though certainly flawed, but I still think it's above average. The best part about it is really the premise

I remembered that show, and I kinda liked it.
I'm not usually a fan of horror, but there were exceptions such as Another and Higurashi.
Shiki was also pretty good.
I don't really understand why people like Shiki so much. It's a show that tries to be morally ambiguous but it kinda fails at it. Mostly how the themes shift with the first half saying that vampires are evil and the second half saying they are not so evil. And almost all the characters are a mix of sympathetic that turn into assholes, assholes that turn likable, annoying or flatout unlikable characters and a supposed main character with barely any screen time.
Vladimir Auditore it just sounds like the show kinda went over your head. It's not saying one side or the other is evil. It doesn't portray either fide as good or evil. There's good and bad people on both sides.
+A. L. Soryu I know that it tries to say that the world isn't either good or bad what I'm saying is that it doesn't do it properly. My problem stands mostly to the structure of the story, not the story or the themes themselves. What I mean is that for most of the show they antagonise the vampires and victimise the humans, but, what it seems out of nowhere, they reverse the roles instead of showing both factions in equal terms.
Vladimir Auditore they are shown on equal terms. Just not at the same time. I don't see anything wrong with it. It is structured in a way that makes sense and follows the logic of the world. There are no problems with the story except for Natsuno becoming jinrou.
I think you were a little harsh on the animation. I know the standards have increased a lot in recent years, but a lot of the shows that have set those standards had the budget for it. You can't compare the budget Code Geass( akito the exiled the new ova series) and the Fate series get with most other series.

Just add a "T" in front of the word, and you would have spelled it close to what it is. It's basically a person, almost always or always females because I've never seen a male example, who is cold and hostile towards someone until they get to know them and warm up to them. I actually googled it so I could explain it better. Lol. If you've been watching anime for a while, you've probably have come across this character type already without knowing what they were called. This type of character is controversial because a lot of people feel it is overused, and if not done well, it can make that character just plain unlikable. Their emotions kind of go back and forth between being argumentative and sweet. It's a complicated contrast that not a lot of people can pull all well in characters.

This anime was just so SLOW. Feels like season 2 is even slower for some reason. I don't even know how that's possible. I had the biggest urge to just skip through most episodes; scenes are just too dang drawn out. Was even any overall plot...ugh sorry I'm just frustrated lol.

season 1 was really good but then season 2 and season 3 kind of got boring.
The manga is better than the anime. Though to be fair the first series was decent until the ending and second and third series.
The plot should have never existed anyway. Ghoul can only die to Kagane while Rize got killed by beams.
Since the story in the anime is rushed, the original story has this side mystery going whether or not Rize really died. It's interesting when it comes up.
The manga is WAY better than the anime.
One advice Read Carl Jung and Nitche then watch this show. You'll break psicologicaly.
