Most of my home is antiques ! I’m decorating my dining room, kitchen, great room, master bath and master bedroom in cottage core! I just wanted to make sure I was thinking the right way! And I believe my ideas are right up that target! Thank you again!
This is bringing back sp many memories. Apparently my Great grandmother decorated with cottage core. Here I thought it was because of our family's herilooms from Ireland and my Great Grandfather's family heirlooms from the Netherlands.
Great video! Forty years ago, when I was in my twenties, I remember dreaming of these very same styles which this generation has now titled "Cottagecore." I still love this style, it's always been MY style. We just called it, "Country." It has changed, and gone back, and changed a bit again, then gone back, etc., etc.--back to the core. I've even read historic articles from the early 1900s about longing to return to the "old fashioned" ideas and comforts of home from the 1800s. There is nothing new, just a new generation who thinks if they're doing it then it must be a new thing. It's only new to each in turn. We all long for Eden and always will.
That's so true! I love that styles come back- personally I love a very bohemian 70s look haha!😁 I feel the younger generations are going even further than before and really getting into the old styles and carrying them on. However if I ever bought a cottage I would 100% go for a country/ cottagecore look- there's something just so cozy about it😊☕🔥
The “country” style of the 1970s was quite a bit darker, heavier, gold-centric and simplistic than today’s Cottagecore. It seemed very centered on basketry, patchwork quilts, eyelet, gingham, yellowed dead flowers and grasses, and chunky dark wood pieces. To my eye it looked faded, dusty and rusty - as though someone couldn’t afford nice things. I wasn’t particularly enamored of it. The Cottagecore approach is much prettier and far moreinviting. It’s clean, light, and airy - with a fair amount of sophistication to boot. It often culls from French Country and brings to mind freshly washed linens and treasured antiques. Plump duvets, billowing curtains and well-tailored pillows offer comfort - and exquisite muted florals bring the style to life. While items may be repurposed, one doesn’t get the feel it’s due to lack of resources - but for the sculptural element they add to the decor. Also, the occasional high-end piece - with or without patina - isn’t out of place in Cottagecore, as comfort and utility are at its foundation - both of which concepts were absent from its prior incarnation. I think Cottagecore and is a vast improvement from the folksy, clumsy “country” decor of the past.
I'm sure that Gen Z is well aware that Cottagecore has its roots in the past and they aren't the first people to get into it. Especially since I keep hearing that one thing unique about Gen Z is how prone they are to nostalgia for times that they have not lived through. There were different versions of Cottagecore in the past because trends are cyclical.
I love cottagecore. I've been decorating that way for years, but I always called it English country cottage decor and took inspiration from the cottage in The Holiday House. As you mentioned, I also prefer darker moodier colours, it suits our weather. Thank you for the video and all the inspiration and suggestions it brings. It was very informative.
Well done in a very short period! I owned my own business's for 45 years. Antiques, new decorator accessories. Linens, rugs, blankets, furniture, cryatal, china, flatware. Artwork, original oils, prints. Seasonal decorations, baskets, jewelry, music and much more. Always loved English and French country. Has a very warm, comfortable feeling and alittle more upscale than American country. Very tired of a duck with a bow around it's neck!!!
Oh wow - I am cottagecore style, and didn’t know it until now! LOL I knew that modern farmhouse was sorta close, but just wasn’t quite right. I have always longed for how my paternal grandmother had her farmhouse decorated. It was all quilts, chintz, plaids, and I don’t think there were two picture frames alike in the entire house. Looking at your inset pics, I recognized the same style as she had. In my opinion - as unwaveringly practical as it may be - a house is too expensive to try to keep up on the trends. If it feels homely and comfortable to the people who live there, regardless of the style, then it’s perfect. 🌸
Your makeup is perfect, I swear. I’ve been staring at your highlighter on your cheeks for like five minutes. I swear everything is perfectly coordinated. Gorgeous.
This ended up being the most educational video I've watched on Cottagecore. You had the examples I needed. I agree about Pinterest; so many people identify items as CC when they are really still farmhouse. All this is especially funny to me because I have lived an actual rural life for 40 years and I have gotten rid of items that CC wants me to display. I guess I'll get my old copper pot collection back out for display. Thank you. MJB
That's so true, lots of CC things get confused for farmhouse! Also, that's so great that you have copper pots- I must say that I really want some😂 They are supposed to be fantastic for cooking, and I am an avid foodie, so I shall be looking out for some 😁🍳 Thank you for such a lovely comment 💖🤗
@@hdb80 I can't agree with you when I look at farmhouse magazines. I keep saying, I have that, I bought that in 1978, I have that too, mom gave me hers years ago, I have that, and that, but mine is green or red or pink and not black or gray. It's all the same things. I could have recently made a LOT of money selling my old country or cottage items just by painting them black or gray and calling them farmhouse.
I like a combo of Shabby Chic, French country, & Cottage core. You gave great points on the art work. I collect R Atkinson Fox who painted lots of cottage gardens. Apx 100 yrs old. My kitchen can’t accommodate a plate rack😢 I have a nice wooden drying rack though. This was a great video.
Having grown up with books & illustrations from the likes of Beatrix Potter, I find true comfort in and appreciation for the old-fashioned, traditional and simple way of life ❤And it makes me so happy that the "Cottagecore" vibe/idea is becoming more and more popular! I think as technology advances, consumerism increases and our daily lives get busier/more stressful, people will be drawn to ideas like "Cottagecore" that focuses on nature, simplicity, coziness, peacefulness etc....
Great video - such lush photos! And as an old lady I'm not shy about complimenting young folk today so might I add that you have beautiful skin and such wonderful hair?!!
I’ve decorated this style most of my life ,We’ve hardly ever bought anything new,I’ve never set foot in IKEA ,l cringe when people brag they “got it from ikea “,I’m English live in Florida now but still like to decorate cosy,My husband remodelled our kitchen with mostly salvage or hand made items ,It looks vintage we love it,
First of all, you look absolutely gorgeous! Your hair, your make up, just so beautiful!! And thank you for explaining so clearly to us novices!! God bless.
Cast iron is another good option for cooking vessels, although you don't want to hang the heavier pieces. Best to keep a big cast iron Dutch oven sitting near or on the heart, or if you have a wood or gas stove, keep cast iron pots and pans on or displayed near them. Maybe it's just my southern talking, but a good, cast iron skillet is the best for making flavorful food and passing something down over time. Are these less common in England? I am gonna inherit a bunch of cast iron cooking vessels from my grandma and am thrilled.
I agree with the idea of cast iron cookware. However, I know they can be hung on a wall. My mother had 22 pieces hanging on her wall. Yes, it was excessive but she liked it.
This has been my natural style all my life (I'm over 60, Canadian of Scottish background). Who knew there was a name for it, and I was decades ahead of the trend!
Oooh! My mum is Scottish, Yay! 🏴 I know right? I feel like this has always been a style but younger generations are finally NOW appreciating & incorporating it into their homes🏠😊
For myself and probably other people living in cottages have been overtaken by urbanisation, I try and make the best of myself, not least as a mark of respect for those that have worked so hard to put me in a fortunate situation.
🌺 This will take time to collect, but I love hand-made ceramics in my kitchen for that homey feel--bowls, mugs, a mortar-and-pestle, stuff like that. I only buy one or two every year, and also request them for birthdays and Christmas, but over time I've built up quite a collection. They don't have to match so long as they harmonize. Another nice thing is getting a wood-burner ("pyrographic tool"it's also called) from your local art & hobby store, and decorate your wooden spoons, wooden trays, etc. You can make really simple, folksy designs--it doesn't take talent, and it feels great every time you look at it. And store things in baskets. All different kinds and sizes of baskets. Fruit lasts better in a basket than a bowl, anyway.
I had been hearing so much about Cottagecore and wanted to know more. You explained it all so beautifully! I live in Southern California but you have inspired me to add some cottagecore details to my home! Thanks and I look forward to more videos! 🌷🌹🌺🌸🌼🌻

@@dantierandbalogh no thats isnt it. but it could be. its more about the state of fabric. than the style of chair. dont worry . i will call my friend Appley in london. i ve been trying to remember the name now 6 months. such an elderly moment im having. i think lady colefax brought it into fashion in rhe 1930s. she was known for taking razor blades and leaving furniture outside to bleach out colours . way ahead of her time. ive tried google i billion times. lol. anyway have a great day and keep up the great content. been binge watching. x
You absolutely nailed it with the wood, curved lines, furniture and bookcases and covered sofa w ottoman w a tray on it and afghans and blankets. Yes i love copper, but only have a couple pieces, i do however love my cast iron, especially my dutch oven and i love spashes of red and sunflower yellow in my kitchen. I love sheers and lace curtains and ruffles and doilies and linens and pillows and i have a floor to celing spice rack with cookbooks intersperced, for instance chinese cookbooks on the shelf with all my chinese vinegars and wines.
Your colour palette seems so cheerful I love it🥺🌻You are much more organised than me when it comes to the spice rack & cookbook organization😅 Great idea though thank you!💖
Great videos, really sound, intelligent information. I wouldn't consider myself shallow but I first noticed this channel by your looks. I have always bee interested in make up and was just blown away by how beautiful you are and how the colours of make-up you use fabulously underscore these features. I knew instantly that you must have a great eye for design and an impeccable taste for interiors. Now I am hooked on your awesome content and great, easy to replicate, ideas. Thank you so much!
Oh Andrea that is such a sweet comment thank you🙏🥹 I do try and match the interior theme accordingly in my dress & makeup (the perfectionist side coming out lol). It's good to have you part of the creative crew🤗🤗
I've been decorating my home in Orkcore. The Orkcore look is dominated by red, grey, and brown. Brown leather and (natural or lightly stained)brown wood. Grey concrete, grey stone, grey iron, occasionally grey stained wood(I've found that Aged Barrel Mw283 is the best shade of wood stain for this). Red leather, sedona red stained wood, a bit of red trim, red painted roof. Dark ages war/hunting weapons as decorations. Hide rugs and Navajo rugs. Raw materials and recycled materials such as barnwood. Exposed industrial elements such as large bolts where practical. Pointiness added everywhere it can be done safely, such as pyramid tacks & pointy plants. The look celebrates the rugged, the repaired, the acetic, and the passionate.
thank you so much for the decor advice i couldnt really think of how to decorate cottage core aside from the exteriors we see so much in movies. your channel is very informative and fun! :)
Loved this video! This has always been my style. I think people should decorate with things they love and that make you feel cozy and happy. Thanks for the inspiration.
I just found your channel today and love what you create . This particularly got my creative juices flowing as I am starting a vision board today, to help my mental health actually, and I was stumped by what makes me happy. The things that you talked about make me happy. You’ve given me food for thought to make my “cottage” in Australia more “cottagecore” and cosy. Thank you🌼
I just came across your channel. I love it. My daughter and I are looking at buying a 1930s cottage in the States. Your channel is going to be immensely helpful.
Hello, Dantier & Balogh! I just found your channel & enjoyed watching this episode--you've got a new subscriber now! This video makes me so happy! I didn’t realize I’ve already done all of these things you suggested to make a house feel like a cottage. I’m so happy now. ☺️❤️
🌼 I just found you and I must say you have captured the cottage beautifully. Thank you for the time and effort you put forth to create this channel and to educate people on this simply charming architecture and lifestyle.
I'm so glad you made this. It's difficult to find much info on how to make a house cottagecore as most things I've found online seem to be centred around dorm rooms or bedrooms and seem to neglect the other rooms of the house. ❀
Im so happy to find your channel :) my husband and I moved in a cottage in lovely west of Ireland ☺️ need so many inspirations and absolutely found them here.
I love this video and your style. I am in a new phase of life, living on my own by choice, but not divorced. I'm renting a one bedroom unit on the bottom floor of a charming 1885 triplex home. It is so perfect for cottage core; already furnished with eclectic old furniture, but I can't wait to find artwork, dried flowers, accessories and fabrics to add! You are very pleasant to listen to and there is a sincerity about you--so I subscribed!🥀
Hi Susannah! Sorry for the late reply 😖 Your home sounds like a fantastic backdrop for this style. Thank you so much for your kind words🥹 and I wish you nothing but happiest in this next chapter 🙏🤍🤗
Hello, I am new to your channel 🌻 You have put a name to how we are decorating, at least partially! Downsizing to the small home my parents built in 1953 (Post War) which sits on 1 acre in rural village in Ohio. Blending their things with ours and select purchases. We are also learning more about Permaculture. Putting it together feels like Cottagecore🌸 Looking forward to more of your helpful videos! ~Sylvia
Wow good luck with the permaculture adventure! 🌳🌱🌾🍎 I wouldn't say that we are experts (at all lol!) But we have began to appreciate the garden more during the lockdown last year- finally harvested our tomatoes and cucumbers this month! 😁 Thank you so much for your comment Sylvia🤗🤍
If you find clutter distracting or anxiety-inducing, you cn still do cottage core. Just pare down the amount of patterns and artwork. Use more solid colors and perhaps pull the colors from a rug that has a larger muted design. You can also cover books with paper covers or sort them by.similar color, size or width on your selves. Use calm colors, too.
I appreciated that you broke down what elements can be used to make Cottagecore style. I find it easy to look at pictures and say, "I like that" but when I try to recreate a similar feeling in my house, it never looks right. Thank you!
🌼🌻🌼🏵️🌼💮🌼🌺🌼 I loved this so much I'm giving u all the flowers! LOL. But for real, this was extremely helpful. We just bought our first house (hopefully our forever home). And this is the style I really love. I already have my dried flowers (from our lovely little garden), and apothecary vibe in the kitchen, as well as stained glass. . But I needed more ideas and u gave me so much inspiration. Thanks love!
@@dantierandbalogh oh wow! How nice of you to say - I'm working on a 'tiny house tour' episode right now, which I think you might enjoy - stay tuned xx
🌷 I don't like anything overdone, but I love decorating with natural materials (wood, glass, metal, stone) and sentimental items. Add live botanicals and voilà! My cottage look.
I'm 74 years old and have been trying to get modern women to understand the peace and joy of this kind of lifestyle for years!! Finally! Women's eye's are starting to open.
100% agree with you! Young people are definitely declining "hustle culture" and the idea of working, working, working nonstop. A life in a cottage surrounded by nature is exactly the way to go🏠🌳🌹
Hello Dantier and Balogh, I had never heard the phase cottagecore style before watching this video. However, I did know that my interior design style is heavily influenced by cottage design. My home is accented with many of the elements you listed. Thanks for updating me with the term cottagecore style! 🌼🌷

Hi Miss Jacqueline. . . I was wondering if you could help me out with a particular style combination I am really feeling in my soul. I commented on a different page and never heard anything back. I was wondering. . . Would you be willing to do a video on how to tie Dark Academia and Primitive together? I would greatly appreciate it. ❤️

not 100% sure but what I think you're after is: a louis xv wingback armchair?
@@dantierandbalogh no thats isnt it. but it could be. its more about the state of fabric. than the style of chair. dont worry . i will call my friend Appley in london. i ve been trying to remember the name now 6 months. such an elderly moment im having. i think lady colefax brought it into fashion in rhe 1930s. she was known for taking razor blades and leaving furniture outside to bleach out colours . way ahead of her time. ive tried google i billion times. lol. anyway have a great day
and keep up the great content. been binge watching.
🌸🌼🌻🌺💐🌷🌹🥀🪷
Loved it.
Thank you :)
@@dantierandbalogh your very welcome and thanks for replying. That means a lot. Especially from an absolutely beautiful woman.
Exactly! The things in your home should spark happiness 💖☀️
🌷Really enjoyed the video, I have a cottage core house and I I loved the tips to make it even better. Hugs from Montana
This video just showed up on my recommendations and I love the content but I just had to say that your blush and highlighter is absolute perfection!
Oh my goodness me! That's such a lovely comment thank you💗💗💗💗
This is probably the best video I've seen on this topic so far! You're very specific and it's so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you Flora! 🌸 If you have any particular videos or topics you would like me to cover, let me know! 🤗🤗
Enjoyed this video - I hadn't heard of "cottagecore" before - but I think it's the look and feel of what I have been striving for.(I live in the US).
Thank you! I'm so glad it helped you out 😊🙏
🌼loved your video. Recently inherited an old 50’s home and that’s the vibe I like but more French cottage/ beachy.
Thank you for your comment lovely lady🤗💗 I have a video on french country style! I hope you find it helpful xx
🌼 thank you for sharing, it helped me find what I need for cottagecore.
I'm just now starting.. I love it.
Thank you Anita! 🥰
Thank you🌼
I 100% live by visionboards! Well done you💗☀️Thank you Terri-Anne for your comment, I hope you have a great week!🤗🇦🇺
My first love was the Thatched Cottages but as I get older I've come to love all things Tutor.
I just came across your channel. I love it. My daughter and I are looking at buying a 1930s cottage in the States. Your channel is going to be immensely helpful.
Omg! Thank you so much for your lovely comment!😊 Do let us know what you'd like to see on the channel🤗 Best of luck with your property search Dear💓🏡🌳
I've just discovered your RUclips channel, and I'm already addicted. Love the cottagecore aesthetic. Greetings from a Chilean anglophile .
Oh goodness Millaray! Thank you so much for joining us🤗☀️ Sending love your way 🏴💌🇨🇱
Ok! This feels very comfortable to me! Thanks.
This was such an informative video. Love this style.
Hello, Dantier & Balogh! I just found your channel & enjoyed watching this episode--you've got a new subscriber now! I live in a 1924 Hansel & Gretel Storybook-style cottage, so it's lots of fun to see your suggestions! Thank you for sharing lovely, thoughtful content...much appreciated!
🏡🙏🏡🌿🌷🌿🎶😘🎶🌿🌷🌿🏡🙏🏡
Oh Sarah that is the sweetest comment😳 I truly am so happy to have you as a part of our creative crew, sending love to wherever you are💓
I was looking for cottagecore and found your video. This does give me some wonderful ideas.Thank you very much😊🌻.
Oh you're more than welcome! I appreciate your comment 💓💓
So glad I have found you! Good types for the cottage design I want to implement in my new small home!💕💐
Congrats on your new home & Happy New Year Kathleen😊🎆🙏
Lovely informative video, I love everything about this decor!!!
Thank you!🥺🙏💖
I'm so glad you made this. It's difficult to find much info on how to make a house cottagecore as most things I've found online seem to be centred around dorm rooms or bedrooms and seem to neglect the other rooms of the house. ❀
Aw thank you so much😊💖
Your top has a very very lovely style! I love it
Thank you so much! It's a dress from H&M! I want more like it 😅☀️🌼
🌸 enjoyed your explanation of CottageCore
I’ve been searching for a video to explain my personal home style. Best video ever. I have so many ideas now. Thank you!
You're so so welcome Jasmine! Happy New Year as well😊🎆🙏
Im so happy to find your channel :) my husband and I moved in a cottage in lovely west of Ireland ☺️ need so many inspirations and absolutely found them here.
Aw that's so sweet! You live in a beautiful area, I'm jealous 😅🏠🇮🇪
Thank you, very helpful. And love your hair and make-up!
Sorry for the late reply! But thank you so much that is so sweet🥹🤍🙏
Love this! Love cottagecore ❤
I love this video. Hustleculture wasn't for me, and after a bit of research, I realise I'm ready to live my best cottagecheese lifestyle.
Welcome to the club Adam 😅😁 You're 100% right though!
Loved the video .... very informative. Thank you!
🌻💐🌺🌼Loved the information and all the photos.
Yes, I love ❤ cottagecore style. 💐
This is a great channel! Thank you so much for giving me the tips. That’s what I’m trying to do for my home! 🌸
Thank you so much Jeanisa💓 Lots more cool videos to come very soon!🤗
I did learn some new tips, thank you
🌸 🌺 🌹 thank you for this! Loved it.
Thank you for your kind words 🤗☀️
I appreciated that you broke down what elements can be used to make Cottagecore style. I find it easy to look at pictures and say, "I like that" but when I try to recreate a similar feeling in my house, it never looks right. Thank you!
You're so welcome Jessica🥺💖
Great inspirations! Thank You!
🌸 So much great information!
Loved this video! All of the pieces were so gorgeous 🌼
Oh you're so welcome 💓🙏 I just found out about your channel! How did I not find it before? I love it 💮🌼🌻🏵️💮🌸🌷🌺🌹 Followed you on insta too! 😁
@@dantierandbalogh oh wow! How nice of you to say - I'm working on a 'tiny house tour' episode right now, which I think you might enjoy - stay tuned xx
My husband is a carpenter who built most of our furniture. I have plenty of baskets. We really don't have to do a lot to get that look.
🌷 I don't like anything overdone, but I love decorating with natural materials (wood, glass, metal, stone) and sentimental items. Add live botanicals and voilà! My cottage look.
I totally agree!
You're so welcome Terri!💖 Thank you for your lovely comment & Happy New Year!🎆🤗
🌻🌻 I new to you channel and am enjoying what I've seen so far. Thank you.
Thank you Dianne & welcome 🤗🤗🤗

This is a great video! . Would you please let me know the spelling of “Huegar “ decor. Thankyou. I live in a small storybook cottage in a city in southern calif.
Of course! It's Hygge, I have a video on that if you're interested😊ruclips.net/video/7Glf_t3l8IY/видео.html

Really enjoyed this video. Lovely presentation and, although I was into this style long before it was re-named cottagecore, I learned some handy hints and tips. Thank you - I will go and look some of your other videos. Also a handy link to the Instagram accounts. Best wishes from Lottie in England.
Hi Lottie, sorry for the late reply! Thank you so much for your kind comment- I really appreciate it 🥹🤍🙏
