im a beginner and i rly need to get it adjusted. i took a nearly 2 hour bus drive (i walked the whole city with my bass after) to get my bass to an instrument store in hopes that the people there might help but when they saw its a bass they declined and said they only did it to regular guitars before 😭 they also told me my truss rod cover is broken (its litteraly not) even tho i bought my bass last month
I don’t go by measurements. I go by feel, I carefully adjust the rod until I get the action where it “feels” comfortable. I only adjust the bridge saddles for intonation or if one string or two is buzzing…Generally, I like a low action - just enough clearance where all open strings will resonate cleanly and when I fret a note it won’t buzz. Hope this helps.
I just tried lowering the action on my strings but it just keeps making a weird rattley noise is it my truss rod I tried twisting the truss rod nut but it feels hard any tips thank you
There’s a difference between neck relief and string height. Trusted for relief and bridge for strong height. I agree to take it in. Things can get all out of wack
Hey, I adjusted the truss rod on my bass and successfully did it after 2 long hrs, but then the string tension gets high, especially in the headstock. And the feels when I play it feels like the strings are streching a little than the previous action. What do I do to make it normal?
@@jcherrymusicworld Clockwise. I adjusted the truss rod for about 2 mm and when I go higher the strings stretch so much that I couldn't tune in standard anymore.
hello sir! Thanks for the tip. My bass guitar neck action keeps changing like i have to slightly adjust it every 2 weeks or so. What do you think, what is the reason for that? Thank you!
@@jcherrymusicworld couple of years ago, not sure, but should be around 3years ago its a custom built bass. also a question, how should i approach that situation because its annoying me a lot!
@@lazarisidorovic6773 the woods are still trying to get acclimated. It takes years to dry and season. I would suggest experimenting with lighter gauge strings to remove some of the tension from the neck.
@@jcherrymusicworld ok so you think thats nothing abnormal? Because everyone I talk to is like: OMG CHANGE THAT RIGHT AWAY! And theres literally nothing wrong with the bass, it works. You can measure but you can also use the strings as reference i.e. you can see how much bow is in the neck from looking at the 8th fret. The string is the straight edge and the neck will be concave to the strings.
I would suggest to experiment with different action adjustments because it varies so much. The sound that you’re after should take priority, but generally speaking start with a higher action and adjust down from there.
That’s the ticket… Thank you very much I appreciate it
Absolutely, you’re welcome!

You should try a different shop. The adjustment is fairly simple - takes 60secs. Do not let anyone over sell you on it in any aspect.

Good tip , thanks .

At this point I would recommend going to a guitar technician to look it over. Don’t adjust it further until you get it looked it.
@@jcherrymusicworld will do thank you so much my man

Do you make truss rod adjustments while the strings are under tension? Or should I loosen them first?
While it’s under tension and tuned and anytime I make an adjustment I make sure to tune it back.
@@jcherrymusicworld thank you!!!

Correct, it was just an explanation.
If you were to play primarily with a pick what action would you want?
