  • Hey, I´m back again with another Timelapse Video. (150 Days)
This time enjoy seeing a Sundew (Drosera capensis) during it´s complete growth cycle from seed to Flower in 60fps. A Time Lapse Of A Sundew Plant Growing. The Making of this video took me 151 days. The result is a carnivorous as well as beautiful Sundew plant with lots of leafes and blooming blossoms. I included a day counter. May it be useful in whatever way. Enjoy!
About the Soil. Most carnivorous plants require moist to wet soil in the warmer months and less moisture in winter. Garden soil is not suitable for carnivorous plants. The preferred media for most are live sphagnum moss, dried long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of about three parts peat moss to one part clean, sharp sand.

Awesome video, it's really amazing how much these plants can do in such a short amount of time and limited resources.

I love this, I have babies but they are only a inch tall and have been growing since January. They were all clumped together I have a 2in pot that I think are all seperated and a 5in pot with 3 clumps im workings on seperating. Do you think they will be fine once i transplant them into a couple 5inch pots or should I be prepared to go bigger. I want a forrest.😂 but not clumped up so they cant breathe. 😢 I just bought them.😊

Interesting. But what is that long sprout at the center? That’s weird looking. I think I would trim that thing.

I'm new to the carnivorous plant scene
1.) Do filter jugs make sense?
2.) Is sundew from a filter jug healthy?
3.)What should you pay attention to when buying a filter jug?
    4) Which is better Dafi or BRITA?
    5) I was told that boiled and cooled water is good for sundews. Can anyone confirm this?
    6) Should we hand feed them at some point? as the domes are closed at the seedling stage to maintain humidity and prevent insects from entering.
7._Should we open the dome every few days to get some fresh air?
    8.) I wish, I thought. catching rainwater. ?
9.) I wish, I thought. catching water from snow?

Overall I just used soil that is poor in nutrients and mainly rain water for this particular plant. Concerning your questions:
1.Filter jugs can be handy for carnivorous plants, but do your research on their specific needs!
2.Sundews usually love filtered water, just make sure it's free of minerals and additives.
3.When buying a filter jug, look for one that removes minerals and chemicals-carnivores prefer pure water!
4.Dafi and BRITA are both good, personal preference plays a role. Check reviews for plant enthusiasts!
5.Boiled and cooled water is generally safe for sundews, but avoid hard water with minerals.
6.Hand feeding can be a good idea, especially when the domes are closed during the seedling stage.
7.Opening the dome occasionally for fresh air is beneficial, just be mindful of humidity levels.
8.Rainwater is a dream for carnivorous plants! If you can collect it, they'll thank you.
9.Catching water from snow can work, but make sure it's clean and not contaminated.
      Happy planting!

1.) Should we feed them manually at some point? as the domes are closed in their seedling stage to maintain humidity, leaving no access for any insects to get in.
2._Should we open the dome every couple of days for them to get new air?
3.) I have been told that boiled and then cooled water is fine for Sundews. Can anyone confirm this?
4.) How much water does a sundew need?
    5.) I wish, I just thought. catching rainwater. ?

Overall I just used soil that is poor in nutrients and mainly rain water for this particular plant. Planting and caring for them is not as hard as yu might think. Concerning your questions:
      1. Absolutely, hand-feeding during the seedling stage is a good idea, especially with closed domes, but not necessary.
2.Yes, opening the dome every few days provides fresh air and helps maintain a good balance.
3.Boiled and cooled water is generally safe for Sundews, ensuring it's free from minerals and additives.
4.Sundews like consistently moist soil, but avoid waterlogging. Keep the soil damp, not soggy.
5.Catching rainwater is a fantastic idea! It's a natural, mineral-free source your Sundews will love. Best water for them ey.
      Happy gardening!
