  • Using the 2.6 mile oval circuit at Monza, Indycar and Formula 1 came together in the 1950's for an epic race showdown, but even with Ferrari and Jaguar leading the pack for the European teams, they were still outpaced by the Americans.
In the latest in our “Short View Back to the Past” series, Chief Editor Kevin Turner looks at when Indycar conquered F1.

Kimi Raikkonen recently tested a NASCAR. And in 2023 a NASCAR will race at Le Mans. It would be amazing if Kimi was part of the driver lineup.

Great vid! While is true that in the 60s some F1 teams participated and won the Indy 500, those were still Indycars, so perhaps the proper "revenge" would be in a third part about the 1971 Questor GP?

Looking back, the calendar of the very first f1 season was weird. It was a European championship with Indy thrown in to make it international.

They put indy in there to justify the "world championship" label. Otherwise it was basicly the same as the European championships of the 30s

Fantastic video! It would be great to learn more about niche non-championship F1 races. Keep up the good work!

Honestly they'd be better off just using stock footage and illustrations rather than having live presenters as none of these guys are particularly good at presenting to camera and their chroma-keying is roughly Nostalgia Critic quality.

Imagine F1 back in oval🤩 that'd be amazing, most people that say they "dislike ovals" never even watched a race on an oval, and I said most, not all

Well, F1 is about cornering speed, not straight line speed... so the top speed doesn't say anything.

Oval racing is certainly fast and the divers undoubtedly courageous, but dull, maybe that could have something to do with its lack of support in most of the world.

Some F1 fans be like: Indycar? You mean the American equivalent to DTM and Super Formula? That backwater American open wheel series? How could they have ever been better they can't even keep a series together for 20 years? How????
