I have the Radian Raptor SD, the Geissele SCH, and the BCM MK.2 Large charging handles, on 3 different AR builds. I think they all feel great. I really love the angle of the Geissele. They all feel very robust, but the Radian and Geissele are probably my go to going forward. I have gone to Geissele and Radian for almost all of my receiver parts across all rifles.
@@MDZac2024 Those are all good options. Haven’t been able to try Geisseles sch charging handle thoroughly. I’ve tried a few and they always seemed hard to pull back. Radian sd is my favorite, the hard straight lined angle makes easy gripping and it pulls back smooth. You’ve made quality choices though. All good choices.
I've heard some complaints regarding the latch spring tension being really high on the BCM MK.2 charging handles. Which makes smooth chamber checks slightly more difficult, and wearing out the finish on the upper rail more than other handles. What's your take? Is yours also tighter than the Raptor?
@@BigBear-- I’ll have to double check on that and get back to you. I haven’t noticed anything significantly different in that area when using them. I rarely do chamber checks and don’t really care about the finish in that small area where it latches. It might be a little more stiff, I do like the thickness on the radian handles.
Also separately...I'm super pissed at BCM in general for first offering the MK.2 uppers stripped for sale, then pulling them and only selling them as either complete rifles or complete uppers. I was thinking of using their stripped MK.2 upper for a build, but they're unobtanium at this point (have been for a year at least). Went with the VLTOR MUR-1A instead (also not easy to find in general, but especially at a decent price).
@@BigBear-- I understand your frustration there. I wish they would start producing lower receivers again too. There lowers are about impossible to get as well. Glad you were able to something else. If you’re trying to decide between charging handles I’d recommend the radian sd. Only reason I got the bcm is because I have their Mk2 system and wanted to try them out. If you’re concerned about the latch tension, you can’t go wrong with radian. I love their charging handles. Mk2 is working well, but I like the thickness on the latch on the radian. Other than that haven’t been able to tell a difference between the two.
@@GearAndGuns If you like a wider (thicker) lever, I'd recommend you check out the Geissele Super Charging Handle. It also utilizes a high lip for gas mitigation like the BCM (except it's not plastic). Except it has thicker, nicely checkered levers. Personally I'd avoid their medium (Airborne), and small (Government) profiles though. Reason I don't like the two smaller ones is that between the shape of the levers and the rake angle on them, when fully depressed back, they end up with a negative rake angle (going past 90°), which with the smaller lever size, and trying to do one side charging, you're now more prone to slipping off the lever. It just doesn't feel as positive, when the rake is negative like that with a smaller lever. If you always claw/hook charge the handle from both sides, then it's probably a non-issue. I tend to do palm or finger, left side charge a lot, so I don't like them for that reason. The large size Super Charging Handle though, doesn't suffer from the same issue, which makes for a really wonderful solid feel overall. The spring tension is also perfect on it, not too tight, so very easy to actuate. It's a very solid feeling handle. My other recommendation, especially if gas mitigation is a concern (especially if running suppressed), is you check out the Armageddon Tactical GMS-15 EVO charging handle. That thing probably has the best overall design for gas mitigation of most any CHs out there. It completely envelopes the rear, redirecting the gas forward of the shooter. It also has a hard silicone seal underneath, along with additional gas channels, to direct the gas away and forward of the shooter. So instead of sending the gas straight up, like most of the lipped designs, it completely redirects it forward and away. It's also fairly beefy (thick), with the levers maxing the rake angle out at like a positive 85° - 90°. Though it's not super cheap, and often sold out. Right now I'm debating between the Geissele Super Charging Handle and the BCM MK.2 Charging Handle (large). I'm not currently planning to run suppressed, anytime soon, but I usually set my builds up so that if I choose to, it's just a matter of picking the right can for the mounting system that's available on my build. I'm also considering the Armageddon Tactical GMS-15 EVO. Though that'd be my first CH with the levers sorta embedded inside the larger body. I also need to receive my MUR-1A (in transit), to check that the rear rail/charging handle section is the same size as normal Mil-Spec AR's. It might not be, cause the MUR-1A runs an overall thicker walled upper. Which could rule out the GMS-15. I know that from the front, all standard AR handguards fit, but not sure about the rear charging handle section.
@@GearAndGuns Sorry, forget to add, now that you told me that lip is plastic on the BCM (which still shocks me), I won't be going with, and will look elsewhere.
@ Haven’t been able to try the geissele super. I’m sure it’s a solid charging handle. I don’t like the small or medium charging handles either, not enough surface area for racking. The super looks better, although the wings still look a little short in length compared to the radian which I don’t like. Kind of minimalist.
@ First time hearing of the gms15. Also with that one, not a fan of the wings or handles on that. Look thin and short. I don’t like minimalist or low profile charging handles. Maybe I’ll be able to try that out someday. Seems like another decent option. I do like the dome on top enveloping the rear receiver.
‘Mk’ is spoken aloud as “mark”, not “em-kay”. The Mk 19 (40 mm) is “mark nineteen” for example. Raufoss rounds are “mark two-eleven”. So the BCM product is “mark two”.
