Bassist is "Eugene" (or just "Gene", actually Yevgeny). Liquid gold.
Drummer is Vlad (Vladislav). Theory nerd and genius.
Roman on guitar. Passionate but shy prodigy.
And Tatiana, shy, reserved and depressive. Rumoured to be a goddess and described by one of the pro-musician channels as "a colossus among metal vocalists".

I don't think anybody really understands what Tatiana does, not even her. It's an incredible gift. She taught herself, and she has no clue exactly how she does the different screams. She says she has several times forgotten how to do it, and had to relearn multiple times--and each time it comes back differently, she says. She doesn't warm up her voice before shows. She smokes cigarettes. If you look at their tour itinerary, they play like five nights a week. Can you even imagine pulling that off night after night after night, screaming like that??? She's a very energetic stage performer too, as you've seen. I'm a metal musician, and let me tell ya that headbanging shit makes your fucking neck sore! Try it for five nights out of seven, for about two months! I couldn't pull that off when I was 20.
When I saw Jinjer a couple months ago, I was determined to really hone in on Eugene's bass playing. As a bassist, I really admire what he does. I stood on his side, ready to watch everything he did. Then Tati walked on the stage. You cannot keep your eyes off her. She is a goddess on stage. She's might be shy and retiring offstage. Onstage she is a freaking lioness. She could hold her own with Bruce Dickinson, she's that good. I have no clue how, I just feel lucky and blessed to witness this musical alchemy. It's rare air up there. I hope and pray we get this perfect chemistry for a long time to come. Better catch it while it's hot though! Lightning in a bottle mate.

I can't think of another band that does such 'freeform' song structures with ridiculous levels of lyrical, rhythmic and harmonic complexity, but still hit hard emotionally AND groove like crazy!
The songs take such twists and turns without ever feeling stilted or cobbled together.
At least a third of their songs still give me chills and goosebumps on every listen, and even the ones that don't are still ridiculously massive grooves.
    🤘

Perennial started with growls when the music started, There is a speaking intro that is prerecorded for live performances. And welcome to being a full fledged member of the Jinjer Army :). I love your Jinjer reactions and your 'dirty' face, that face you make when you hear that sick sound. And yes, they play a lot with odd time signatures. The musicality can be compared to the math metal genre like Meshuggah, Periphery and Animals as Leaders with the later being a 3 piece instrumental band with no bassist.

    • @sevsimo

Yeah dude, when you start checking out the playthrough vids of Eugene, Vlad and Roman, you'll really start to understand how amazing all three musicians are.
You're right, the "tempo" is never the same throughout the songs. Nothing is ever straight 4/4, they always switch up the time signatures, going from 4 count to 5, 3, whatever. Throwing in an extra beat, altering the emphasis of the downbeat. They are rarely content to do any one thing for very long, or more than once, without changing it up. Rush used to have a common thread about "the only thing constant is change," and these guys are all about that. Never the same thing twice. Rarely staying in a "comfort zone"--until you get comfortable with whiplash, trying to follow all the changes.
Put it this way: I've been listening to challenging prog, metal, jazz, classical etc for a long long time, but these guys have made me listen to music in a whole different way. There is so much going on here, it really rewards breaking it down and analyzing it in detail. As a musician, trying to learn the individual musicians' parts is a real challenge. Extremely demanding stuff to play. And they pull it off flawlessly live, night after night. I'm amazed at their consistency, their dedication and work ethic, the passion that's evident in everything they do. Maybe it's a Ukrainian thing. The whole country is just impressively competent lol.
BTW, I just saw that Jinjer landed the opening slot on the upcoming Disturbed tour, along with Breaking Benjamin! Score! So far it looks like mostly North America, but hopefully they'll take it all over the world. I'll be there, come hell or high water! This is a band not to be missed live.

You're reaction actually gave me goosebumps because you are dead on! I just love seeing reactors hear this band and really get it! I just discovered Jinjer, myself, only about 9 months ago, and they are now in my top two bands of all time. And, I'm 51 years old. I've listened to, and am a fan of a lot of bands from the 70's all the way to today. Jinjer is something special. They grabbed my heart and didn't let go. I listen to them almost daily and never get tired of them. I saw them live from the front row and got to meet them last November. And I've got tickets to see them again in July. All I can say is, you haven't really heard Jinjer until you've heard them live. Whenever you get the chance to see them, don't miss it! Looking forward to seeing you continue this journey. The rabbit hole is very deep. This band has no bad songs to their name. I recommend checking out one of their older ones, Outlander the failure color version. It's one of my favorite songs by them. And, they were a five piece with two guitarists back then. I think you will really like it.

Hee Sevsimo, fine reaction. They are world class. Such a miraculous band. And that Tati ........ a monster she is:-) Another killer live band where the drummer is the key musician: Gojira, from France. They stand on their own too and need some TLC. Jinjer is fan of them, so they must be doing something right;-) ( The art of dying, Remembrance, The gift of guilt, Vacuity, The Axe, Oroburus, In the Wilderness, The heaviest matter of the universe, Backbone, Where dragons dwell, A new World, Explosia, Toxic garbage island etcetera, etcetera. All live of course, or studio maybe)

Found these guys about 2 years ago and still can't get enough of them!! Yeah, they're super creative when it comes to their arraignments. They mix modes, theory and tempos. They play in all time signatures, even in basic 4/4 at times, but are really good at heading the 1 beat! Beautifully unsettling at times, but that's JinJer!! This band gives me musical ADHD. They keep the little variations in the drums, guitar, and bass so there are subtle variations each time a riff is played it sounds a bit different so there is always something new tickling the ears, and every time a chorus is sung like in Teacher Teacher, then Tati sings it differently so it never has even the smallest bit of monotony. I listened to their Wallflowers album and nothing else for a couple of weeks and never felt like it was getting old because there's so much variety.
Re Kiev vs Kyiv, the former is the older Soviet-era romanization based on Russian, but the Ukrainian-based romanization has become preferred since the invasion, but this came out before. As an aside, for anyone who thinks these kinds of issues are unique to the situation in Ukraine, I'm pretty used to the concept coming from a martial arts background. Older stuff talking about Chinese martial arts was romanized using the Wade-Giles system which was based on Cantonese from the days when the European-dominated south and the Kuomintang government based in southern China were the primary source of information about Chinese martial arts, but then after the CCP rose to dominance in the late 40s and early 50s based in Beijing in the north, the Mandarin-based pinyin romanization system became the preferred method. For example the slow-motion martial art some people do in parks is called "tai chi chuan" in Wade-Giles and "taijiquan" in pinyin. Similarly with "gung fu" vs "kung fu" and countless other things.

You're 4 reactions in...this is the point almost all reactors who don't really like Jinjer, but do like their fans for their sub counts, go off not to return. Those who do like Jinjer and Jinjer fans go another 2-3 tracks and then ditch the rest of the library for more time on other bands that will generate subs. Those who are new fans of Jinjer and not just reactors, generally switch to a day a week for a Jinjer reaction or even sometimes a double, thus freeing them up while still enabling them to have that moment every week where they get to bond with their new friends and enjoy some lovely 'Choppy Drop' music.
Now, this is painting with a very broad brush, not meant to be a specific declaration of an individual, but also generally accurate too. Figure out where you fit and let best practices for that spot be your guide.
I feel you need some raw Jinjer...from way back when.....Outlander (Live, from the best Ukrainian metal band contest). Plug it in and forgo the coffee, as the music will pump you full of energy...what you do with that energy is up to you, but they will provide it free of charge.
