I have one of these I am cleaning now. Went through all my ratchets, cleaning and re-greasing them. The S&K ratchet I have I found on the side of the road probably 30+ years ago. On the back roads of my town one day, I saw this ratchet, some sockets, extension and some pliers on the edge of the road just past an intersection. Must of slid out the back of some ones pickup as they turned onto the road. Its been a good ratchet.

It happens. Thankfully rarely. This old camera's mic does weird things sometimes.

Recently the ball and spring fell out of the head where the socket attaches to the ratchet on my SK 7".
I tried switching off to my Craftsman
But the feel isn't anything like my SK.
SO thanks for the video. I'll be buying my rebuild kit later this week.

Hi, great video. What was your reason for using Super Lube on SK ratchets? I couldn't hear what you said in the video. Thanks.

I use it because it works well.

Any ideas for getting the pivot pin for the pawl out? I've had it soaking for 2 days and still can't get it to drop.

What are you soaking it in? I've used a few different rust converters, pure isopropyl alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, ATF, and AeroKroil for getting ratchet parts unstuck over the years. It depends very much on which grease you're trying to dissolve, or if it's a mechanical issue like rust.

what kind of solvent do i use to clean the crud?

    • @mausball

Typically I've used acetone, Brakleen, ATF, or Goo Gone, depending on what is in the ratchet before I got it. Use what works.
