  • I'm a big fan of Air Canada's A320 family of aircraft, mainly because those CFM56s just sound so good on takeoff!
This A321 departure from Calgary to Vancouver was no exception, so I thought I'd post the longer version from the earlier trip report! ( • Flying Air Canada's A3... )

Never gets old with these engines. I'm so excited some of the A320s and Rouge A319s with the older CFM56 are back in service now too.

I flew on a nearly 30 year old A320 with Lufthansa back in 2018. The buzz was absolutely the highlight. Amazing video!

That was a smooth takeoff. The last time I was in Calgary was 2013, wishing I could've gone with my mother and sister when they went back in September.

WOW! What a great takeoff and over Airdrie, AB. where my Dad and Sister lived. I love your videos for showing the full takeoff run; I like to time how many seconds the takeoff run lasts until rotation. Haha!

Am I correct in thinking that the older variants were even noisier, and that the 'buzzsaw' effect was more pronounced, and then they changed some "vanes" or what, and the effect has been decreased??.. Anyway, I love it!

The pilots must have such a grin on their face when they select takeoff thrust.

Awesome sound! But what a long take off run! I thought it never begins the rotation! So I presumed it was a long distant flight with heavy fuel load, but it is a short 422 Mile flight only... Nevertheless great video.

Reminds me of that one time I was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar with a Malaysia Airlines B737-800 and the 737 took the takeoff run of a 747 😂

This BUZZ sound usually indicates the wear of the support bearing and is usually heard on forced pull during takeoff.
After warming up the engine and switching to normal mode, the sound usually disappears, but a little remains. I wonder which airlines allowed this to happen in Canada?
It is sounds like old non maintained aircraft!

I have been on a worryingly buzzing engine out of YYC some years ago on WestJet. Just on one side. Nevertheless less we made it just fine to the destination. I am not sure what causes they extra buzz. Still looking to fly the A220/C series.

Had a garbage disposal like that. Probably got better at altitude with colder temps. They say it's the tips of the fan blades but I don't think so.

Since this is about the buzzing engines... I don't know if anyone has seen this video yet, but thought I'd share with fellow avgeeks. The 707 turbofans at times sound like they are under full thrust just taxing to the runway, just incredible:

OWG Airlines (stands for Off We Go), based out of QC, they have three 737s, according to their website

AIrbus is my last choice when it comes to planes. I first flew on a 320 in Dec 1990. The ticket agent proudly told me it was their Brand New 320. I asked for a different flight as I had just seen several TV shows describing the 320's computer vs pilots control issues. As I would have to wait a day until a 767 was available... I begrudgingly boarded. On take off(Ottawa) there was a very loud Bang, and the landing in Toronto seemed like the plane was veering to the right on the runway. After a delay in Toronto, at the gate, the plane suddenly dropped about a foot(maybe a tire change, which might have explained the Bang earlier) and we headed to Edmonton. Again it seemed after touchdown the plane was again pulling to the right.

First time I ever heard that sound was on one of those Brazil Planes. El-90. I had been placed up front, I usually sat right at the back of a plane(I figure there are 30+ rows of seats to reduce the impact in case of a crash), and it really bothered me, as I thouight the engine was going to throw a fan blade any second.
